Sincerely In Christ,

Fr. Lawrence D’Anjou

From Father Lawrence Recap of 2015 Parish Finances

At the beginning of every meeting of the Parish Finance Council we pray in gratitude for the support and generosity of St. Raymond parishioners, that we may continue to be good stewards of the parishes finances and that we may continue to merit the trust and confidence of all who contribute to the parish. I am grateful to you, the good parishioners of St. Raymond who contribute regularly to the operations of our parish and to the Parish Finance Council for their wisdom and guidance in helping keep our parish on a solid financial footing. Here I’d like to share the highlights of our parish financial operations for 2015. The “bottom line” is that in 2015 St. Raymond had a net income of $66,206.35. Last year St. Raymond contributed $136,406.76 in charitable giving which includes $90,113.82 from special collections and $46,292.94 in sacrificial giving and tithing. Please see the other page in today’s bulletin (page 9) for a summary of our 2015 financial operations. It is humbling and gratifying to share this good news. Especially since last year our parish participated in a diocese capital campaign and a parish campaign. A HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL OUR PARISH AND CAPTIAL CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTORS! As of today we are at 99.3% of our goal for the 2015 capital campaign. The capital improvements are well underway for the new Catholic pre-school/kindergarten at the southwest corner of our site. Soon we anticipate the construction crew moving to the front of the church to begin work on the new parish plaza; all very exciting! These improvements, of course, depend upon the continuing fulfillment of all capital campaign pledges. The end of the first year redemption cycle is June 30, 2016 so if you haven’t yet fulfilled your 1st year pledge, now is the time to do so.

Our God is the source of all our blessings. St. Raymond’s suggests that we follow the biblical standard of tithing 10% of our income to God as a return for the blessings we have received. We suggest that 5% of our income go to our parish and 5% go to the charity of your choice. Remember, God will never be outdone in generosity! Personally, I have never known anyone who put God first in this way to go unrewarded. Not all of us are able to make the ‘leap’ to tithing 10% all at once. And so, as in past years, we are offering here a handy chart that can help us make the incremental increase to get there.

Along with my gratitude to our wonderful contributors, can I make a special request? As you may imagine, the regular collection and our capital campaign brings with it a lot of administration of checks and deposits. If you are able to change your method of contributing from a

personal check to electronic funds transfer (EFT) it would save the parish (and you) time and effort. EFT is safe, convenient and efficient. It allows your bank to automatically make a deposit directly to the parish for your contribution. All you need to do is provide us with a written authorization (form on page 4) and a blank, voided check. You will continue to receive a full accounting of your contributions on your bank statement and at the end of the year from the parish. May God bless you all for your amazing goodness and generosity. Be assured of my prayers for you!

Gospel Reading

John 16:12-15

Background on the Gospel Reading

This week we return to the liturgical

season of Ordinary Time. This Sunday

and next Sunday, however, are

designated as solemnities, special days

that call our attention to central

mysteries of our faith. Today, on the first

Sunday after Pentecost, we celebrate the

Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity. This

feast invites us to consider what we

believe about God, who has revealed

himself to us in the Trinity—one God in

three persons.

The verses of today's Gospel come near

the end of Jesus' long discourse at the

Last Supper. In the early part of this

discourse, as we saw last week on

Pentecost, Jesus offers assurances to the

disciples. Even though he must leave the

disciples, he tells them that they will

have a future because of the help he will

send them in the Holy Spirit. In this

section he focuses more on the shape of

the future, which will include Jesus'

victory over the world that they will

share in. The disciples of Jesus cannot

know the future. They can only know

that, whatever shape the future takes,

they will not have to face it alone. They

have the Spirit of Truth, who will

continue to provide the teaching of Jesus

in the future.

Reading this passage on Trinity Sunday

reinforces our understanding of the

unity shared by the members of the

Trinity. Although the idea of one God in

three persons remains a mystery, we

have the assurance that, as Jesus and the

Father share all, Jesus and the Spirit

share all.

Treasures from our Traditions

Around the turn of the fourth century, Augustine, still fairly fresh from the baptismal waters in Milan, was elected bishop of a ti ny city i n North Africa, Hippo. He told his people, "While I am frightened by what I am for you, then I am consoled by what I am with you. For you I am a bishop, with you I am a Christian." He had his priorities right, and also knew that everyone coming from the water arises with a ministry, a specific role, in

bringing about God's kingdom.

If we were asked to purge English of Greek vocabulary, we would gain an insight into key ministries in our church . Bishop, from the Greek episkopos, would become simply "overseer;" priest, from the Greek presybter, would become "elder;" and deacon, from the Greek diakonos, would be "servant." Each title stands in relationship to all the baptized, serving the community, helping it to be the Body of Christ. In our deepest tradition, each of these ordained mi nistries is attuned to hel p us become our best selves, to hunger and thirst for the coming of God 's kingdom. The goal for each one of us is to be able to recognize the presence of Christ in worship and in service. Although only some of us are ordained to ministry, each of us is called to ministry.

Questions of the Week

Adult: Which of today’s readings gave you a new insight into the trinity? Children: Why is it important to make
