Parish News Children’s Choir
Is your child interested in being a part of our Children's Choir for Christmas Eve
Mass? We will have practice on Sundays, December 4, 11 & 18, immediately
following the 11:00am Mass. Please bring your child to the church organ and we will practice for 45
minutes each session. Children should attend all three rehearsals. If you have any questions, please call Donna
Kavanaugh at 612-869-4985.
South Metro Chorale
This Sunday, December 4, we are pleased to welcome the SMC for their annual winter concert. We hope you can
come back to church to enjoy the concert at 3:00pm! Tickets are $12 for adults, and just $8 for seniors and students.
SMC’s mission is to achieve excellence in the performance of classical and contemporary choral music for our community.
Feast of the Immaculate Conception
Mass will be at 8:00am and 12:15pm for the holy day of obligation on Thursday, December 8.
Experience the Joy of Reconciliation We will have our Advent Reconciliation Service on Saturday,
December 10, at 10:00am. This consists of a prayer service, followed by an opportunity to receive the Sacrament of
Reconciliation one-on-one with a priest.
Retirement Fund for Religious Campaign
Your donation works for aging religious. “I read that roughly 95 percent of donations to the Retirement Fund for Religious
aid senior religious,” a donor writes. “That’s wonderful when we truly want our donations to work.” Your gift works for elderly religious by helping to furnish medications, nursing
care, and more. Special contribution envelopes are in the narthex. As always, all checks should be made payable to “St.
Richard’s Catholic Church” and we will remit funds to the collection. Checks made payable to any organization other
than St. Richard’s Catholic Church cannot be listed on your year-end statement from the parish.
Catholic Relief Services Grant Received Did you know your CRS Rice Bowl
contribution now helps local organizations that address hunger and/
or poverty? This is the inaugural year for the CRS Rice Bowl Local Grant
program and our parish Loaves & Fishes ministry was blessed to receive a $400 grant from the program. The grant will
help us provide meat and produce at the meals we serve each month at St. Stephen’s Church in Minneapolis.
Holiday Toy Drive is Wrapping Up
This is the last weekend of our drive for VEAP, since they need time to distribute gifts to local families before
Christmas. If you did not bring a toy or $20 gift card today, you may drop it off at the parish office on Monday morning
or bring it directly to VEAP by Friday, December 9.
Help Us Meet Our General Operating Commitments
If you have not pledged before, this message is for you: In recent years, Sunday giving has
not been sufficient to meet our operating needs. 2017 is a chance for us to turn over
a new leaf and for you to take the next step in fulling participating in our parish family!
We need you to help us move out of our deficit budgets and into a strong future
for St. Richard’s Catholic Church. Whatever your financial means, your pledge of any amount is gratefully received.
Updated Financial Reporting You may recall that the Finance Council communicated to
the parish in July that a deficit budget had been passed for the current fiscal year (July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2017). A
deficit budget means that, based on projected parishioner contributions, we estimate that we will need to use about $32,000 from our savings to cover our actual General
Operating expenses. To clarify our real cash-flow position, the Finance Council has decided to change the reporting
format in the bulletin to reflect the status of the deficit budget. For the balance of the fiscal year, we will now report actual
operating income and expenses each month following our council meetings. In addition, you will see that the weekly
contribution budget that we list in each issue now includes covering the full deficit amount. Please feel free to speak with
any member of the Finance Council if you have questions.
Building Our Future
We have had a busy fall with various capital projects and we
are still going strong. Next up is the new carpeting in the
narthex and hallway, which are scheduled for the week after
Christmas. Even as we are see the fruits of indoor projects,
our Capital Projects Steering Committee is hard at work making plans for work to be done in the spring and summer,
which will include our exterior brickwork. You can always find information about our projects at www.strichards.com/
capital-campaign.
Capital Campaign Goal: $1,190,000.00
Pledges and un-pledged gifts to-date: $1,199,694.45
Thank you!
