Background

● Stalin wanted to get rid of everyone that wanted to be independent from his rule.

● Stalin sent a message by cutting off the food supply with caused a large food shortage

● an estimate of about 7 millions people died due to the food famine● Stalin eventually cut of Ukraine from receiving resources and due to that in 19933 nearly 25% of the population including 3 million children had perished

Goal Of Cleansing

● Stalin wanted to bring back Soviet’s big influence in the Ukraine.● 5,000 Ukrainian scholars, scientists cultural and religious leaders were

arrested after being falsely accused of plotting an armed revolt.● Stalin imposed the Soviet system of land management known as

collectivization. Which resulted in the seizure of all privately owned farmlands and livestock in a country where 80% of the people were traditional village farmers.
