Motivation

Support for the start-up/discontinuation of end products (sales view)

Optimization of the material flow. Timely requirement transfer of the customer

requirements (mainly as scheduling agreement releases) to the production. Over

the planning run (MRP/APO) transfer of the requirement to the procurement

Reduction of the expenses for the start-up/discontinuation (e.g. scrapping

expenses)

Support the customer requirements in the area „Change Index“, if a unique

material number per change index is assigned

APO Integration

Timely information of the start-up/discontinuation control and change index with

Reporting

Control of the start-up/discontinuation of end products with the relocation of

production in another production plant/delivering plant

Concept

The system creates a new material number per engineering change level

The SD scheduling agreement contains a table for the control of the start-up and

discontinuation (order-related control of the function is possible)

Scheduling agreement with n-items, where one item is the active (customer

material number)

The management and distribution of the scheduling agreement items occurs via

planning delivery schedules

The distribution of the schedule lines from the „active“ item to the planning

delivery schedule of the start-up item take place according to the table for the

discontinuation control. The “distributed“ schedule lines are relevant for

requirements and/or delivery

The start-up/discontinuation situation cross scheduling agreements could be

visualized online using various monitors

Start-up/Discontinuation Control

External discontinuation control the customer changed e.g. customer material number/change index; the supplier changes it as well

Date-specific discontinuation control

Cumulative quantity-specific discontinuation control

Remaining order quantity-specific discontinuation control

Internal discontinuation control „only“ the supplier changes and records the changes internally

Only discontinuationno start-up would automatically be triggered. Possible overlaps of the requirements from customer around „discontinuation horizon“ would be cleared when the supplier works with the inbound release parallel

Forecasted start-up

Application Scenario - Examples

An own material number would be created for each change index. In SD

scheduling agreement exist n (>1) items with these material numbers. A

distribution of the schedule lines is based on the item number. The schedule lines

would be assigned to the right material through item number

In SD scheduling agreement exist n (>1) items with the same material number.

Each item could have a different plant (e.g. item 10, plant 1 in Germany; item 20,

plant 2 in USA). A distribution of the schedule lines is based on the item number.

The schedule lines would be assigned to the right plant through item number

(start-up and discontinuation control for relocation of production facilities)

In SD scheduling agreement exist n (>1) items. Different fields could be

maintained on the item level (e.g. price, purchase order number OEM, unloading

point OEM, ...). A distribution of the schedule lines is based on the item number. It

is possible to deliver the OEM with another price, another OEM purchase order

number, another OEM unloading points, etc.

Extract from the Function List

Scheduling agreement specific control (e.g. according to cumulative quantity)

Automated start-up and discontinuation control e.g. by EDI inbound of the next

forecast/JIT delivery schedule

Only discontinuation

Forecast start-up

FIFO principle by withdrawal from external service agent (external service agent

often send „only“ the customer material number via EDI)

Multiple items distribution

Requirement from a delivery schedule for the first item would be distributed to the other

items in the scheduling agreement automatically

100 % delivery enabled incl. print and EDI

Cumulative quantity accurate (accurate to piece) split of the delivery and

requirement quantity

Forecasted Start-up – Process Example

Customer changes the change index, and also the material number. Scheduling

agreement release would be transmitted for both of the material numbers.

INBOUND RELEASE FOR DISCONTINUED ITEM

While transferring the schedule lines from the discontinued item to the start-up item,

the planned delivery schedule would not be overwritten completely. Only the

schedule lines which are distributed from the discontinued item in the past would be

replaced (e.g. with schedule line type ‚A‘). All the „original“ planned schedule lines of

the start-up item, which are created from the forecast delivery schedule for example,

are still valid.

INBOUND RELEASE FOR START-UP ITEM

By inbound release for start-up item, a planning delivery schedule would be

generated automatically. The new generated planned schedule lines would replace

the generated schedule lines from the last forecast delivery schedule, but not the

distributed lines from discontinued item.
