STELLA BATTAGLIA Art Book

Sculptress (Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze). After a career in ballet and theatre, she turns to figurative arts. Collaborating with Gianni Miglietta, Stella Battaglia explores the theme of perspective and anamorphosis, focusing on the study of optical distorsions in sculpture. The analysis of the relationship between the vision and the object, as well as the relationship between the two image’s dimensions and the three sculpture’s dimensions, leads her to realize artworks with different materials, either traditional or synthetic, up to the experience of video installations. The image is the starting point of a shape, which develops in space following rhytmic and dynamic patterns; the movement becomes the key element which modulates itself according to the observer movements towards the artwork. Fundamentally important would be her collaboration with Museo Galileo, Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza, where together with Gianni Miglietta, she follows several installations as part of national and international exhibitions, starting in 2001 with Nel segno di Masaccio. L’invenzione della Prospettiva, (Florence, Galleria degli Uffizi). In 2012 Museo Galileo dedicates a complete personal exhibition to the two artists’ work: Geometrie dell’illusione, tra arte e scienza. In 2013 the Cassero per la Scultura Italiana presented a personal exhibition of her work, L’apparenza della forma. She was awarded a prize for sculpture at the Florence-Shanghai Prize 2013. In 2014 she is commissioned by the Opificio delle Pietre Dure for a consultation on the perspective of the bas-relief carvings on the Pulpit of Donatello, placed in the church of San Lorenzo, Florence. In 2014, a personal exhibition was heldat the MA-EC, Milan Art & Event Centre.
