Stijlgroep landschap en stedelijke ruimte is een multidisciplinair

ontwerpbureau. vanuit Rotterdam werken wij dagelijks aan de ontwikkeling en

inrichting van onze leefomgeving. wij kiezen hierbij voor een brede aanpak; al

het goede uit de landschapsarchitectuur, stedenbouw en architectuur wordt

met elkaar verbonden. in die aanpak herkent men onze roots, de Rotterdamse

mentaliteit: durven en doen!

Met passie en creativiteit werken wij op alle schaalniveaus aan haalbare

plannen, van masterplanning tot aan detailontwerp. we spelen daarmee in op

de ontwerpvragen in de Nederlandse markt en zetten de aldus opgedane kennis

en ervaring ook in binnen onze buitenlandse projecten. De bindende factor bij

alle opdrachten is onze benaderingswijze. vanuit een landschapsarchitectonisch

perspectief zoeken wij naar de eigenheid van de opgave, het specifieke karakter

van de plek en de rol van de mens binnen het geheel, als gebruiker maar ook

Stijlgroep landscape and urban design is a multidisciplinary design firm

based in Rotterdam. Every day, we work on the design and development

of our living space. Our approach is broad; the best of landscape architec-

ture, urban design and architecture are mixed together to create the best

solution. Our approach clearly reflects our Rotterdam roots: Dare and do!

we work with passion and creativity on achievable plans at every level:

from master plan to detailed designed. This not only enables us to respond

to the design questions of the Dutch market, but also to use our local

expertise in our foreign projects. The common factor in all our assign-

ments is our approach. From a landscape architectural point of view, we

search for the singularity of the assignment, the specific character of the

location and the role people play in the whole; as users and as clients.

we recognize the interests of all of the stakeholders, treat them with

care and are always aware of all of the environmental factors. People and

landscape are our sources of inspiration: they stimulate us, and enable us

to create designs with a high level of enthusiasm. we are also not afraid of

leaving the beaten track when an assignment so requires. A clear vision on

LANDScHAP ALS DRAgER

Landschap kent vele verschijningsvormen. Het

tastbare landschap, van landschappelijk tot

stedelijk, vormt onze leefomgeving. we wonen

en werken er, rijden er door en recreëren er. Het

zichtbare landschap wordt niet alleen gevormd

door tuin, park en agrarisch gebied, maar ook

door de dichtbebouwde stedelijke gebieden,

pleinen en boulevards.

Daarnaast herkent Stijlgroep het onzichtbare

landschap; het landschap dat soms verborgen,

verdwenen of inmiddels op een geheel andere

wijze door de mens in bezit genomen is. Analyse

van dit onzichtbare landschap levert inzichten in

de balans tussen ruimtelijke kwaliteit, beleving,

functies en natuurwaarden die essentieel is

bij landschappelijke opgaven. Oorspronkelijke

gebiedskenmerken worden versterkt, maar ook

nieuwe concepten worden ingepast. Natuurlijke

en historische terreinkenmerken dienen vaak als

inspiratiebron.

zo bezien fungeert het landschap als drager voor

nieuwe ontwikkelingen, zowel binnen de stad

als daarbuiten. Het overbrugt alle schaalniveaus

van ruimtelijke ordening tot inrichting. Het

landschapsontwerp van Stijlgroep zoekt de

synergie tussen landschap, stedenbouw en

architectuur. waar mogelijk zal Stijlgroep positie

kiezen, vanuit het besef dat daarmee de sterkste

en duurzaamste concepten ontstaan.

kENNEN vAN RuiMTE

zowel bij landschapsplanning als bij stedelijke

herontwikkeling is een treffende ruimtelijke

analyse van wezenlijk belang. Stijlgroep legt

zich toe op het herkennen van patronen, hun

historische en maatschappelijke context,

het interpreteren ervan en het opsporen van

ruimtelijke vraagstukken. Dat vraagt een

bijzondere antenne, de bereidheid om de opgave

verder te onderzoeken waar anderen zijn

opgehouden en vragen te stellen die anderen

niet gesteld hebben. Het vereist bekendheid met

trends in gebruik, beheer en beleving van de

ruimte. Alleen zo wordt het fundament gelegd

voor een goed stedenbouwkundig ontwerp.

LANDScAPE AS FOuNDATiON

Landscape appears in many forms. The tangible

landscape, from rural to urban, forms our

living space. we live and work in this space,

drive through it and spend our free time in it.

The visible landscape is not only made up of

gardens, parks and farmland, but also of tight

built-up urban areas, squares and boulevards.

Stijlgroep also recognises the invisible landscape;

the landscape that is sometimes hidden, that has

disappeared or that people have taken possession

of in a totally different way. The analysis of this

invisible landscape provides insight into the balance

between spatial quality, perception, functions

and natural values that are essential for spatial

assignments. Original regional characteristics

are reinforced, and new concepts integrated.

the region’s natural and historical characteristics

often serve as sources of inspiration.

in this sense, landscape functions as a foun-

dation for new developments, both inside and

outside the city. it bridges all of the levels from

large-scale environmental planning to detailed

design. stijlgroep’s landscape designs look for

the synergy between landscape, urban design and

architecture. where possible, Stijlgroep will take

a stance with the awareness that doing so will

create the strongest and most durable concepts.

SPATiAL kNOwLEDgE

An accurate spatial analysis is essential in both

landscape planning and urban redevelopment.

Stijlgroep commits itself to recognising patterns

and their historical and social context, interpre-

ting them, and seeking out spatial questions. This

demands special feelers, as well as the willing-

ness to continue investigating assignments where

others have left off and to ask the questions

others have not. it requires knowledge of trends

in the use, management and perception of space.

This is the only way a sound foundation can be

laid for good urban design.

van de ruimte, onderscheidt de verschillende

specialisten. Dit kan de ontwikkelde visies en

ontwerpen aanvullen met kostentechnische

adviezen, de technische voorbereiding

verzorgen en de uitvoering aansturen. Ook

op het uitvoeringsniveau beschouwen wij het

ruimtelijk ontwerp van landschap en stad als een

integrale activiteit die hoge eisen stelt aan het

vakmanschap van het team.

DE MENS cENTRAAL

Het fysieke landschap creëert condities

voor het sociale landschap; het biedt naast

beperkingen ook kansen en mogelijkheden.

Stijlgroep richt zich bij het ontwerp op de

menselijke dimensie; vindt hierin ook één van

haar belangrijkste inspiratiebronnen. vanuit

een maatschappelijk besef doorgronden

wij de processen die bepalend zijn voor het

ruimtegebruik; de historische context en de

behoeften op langere termijn. waar mogelijk

betrekken wij bewoners en/of gebruikers van

het gebied bij het ontwerp. we schatten met

hen samen de mogelijkheden in en buigen

beperkingen om in kansen. Ook in dit opzicht is

het ontwerp van landschap en stad een integrale

activiteit.

Deze gerichtheid op de menselijke factor is wat

de medewerkers van Stijlgroep bindt. Het vertaalt

zich eveneens in de relatie van het bureau tot

haar opdrachtgevers. Een dienstverlenende

instelling, het nemen van verantwoordelijkheden

en een open communicatie zijn voor ons

vanzelfsprekend en vormen in onze optiek

een basis voor een langdurige en vruchtbare

samenwerking.

This reveals another dimension of spatial

awareness: the ability to confidently work out

a spatial concept that fulfils the promises

made on the drawing table. Scale, scope and

a well laid-out space must lead to the desired

spatial perception. in his endeavour, the

designer searches for the singularity of the

area, distinguishes different types of space

and establishes a hierarchy.

During this quest, the designer is supported by a

team of technical specialists who supplement the

designer’s visions and plans with cost estimates,

carry out the technical preparations and supervise

the execution. At the execution level, too, we

consider the spatial design of landscape and

town to be an integrated activity that puts high

demands on the team’s skills and craftsmanship.

PEOPLE iN FOcuS

The physical landscape creates conditions for

the social landscape; it has constraints, but also

creates opportunities and provides possibilities.

stijlgroep’s designs focus on the human dimension;

it is one of our major sources of inspiration.

Our keen social awareness enables us to develop

a thorough understanding of the processes that

determine the use of space, the historical context

and the long-term needs. where possible, we involve

residents and/or people who use the space in the

design process. we discuss the possibilities with

them and transform constraints into opportunities.

in this sense, too, landscape and urban design are an

integrated activity.

it’s this focus on the human factor that stijlgroep’s

employees have in common. This focus is also
