Tosti Assoociates Architecture and Engineering Studio was founded in 2001 and is composed by Giuseppe Tosti, graduated in civil engineering in 1957 a distinguished structural engineer, famous both nationally and internationally, expert in diagnosis and therapy of instability of buildings, by the structural engineers, his son, Massimo Tosti, Anna Aniballi and Gian Piero Bolletti, bounded to one another since the days of the studies conducted together at the University “Alma Mater Studiorum” in Bologna in the late 80s and 90s, architect Francesca Cangemi, graduated in 1997 at the Faculty of Architecture at the University “La Sapienza” in Rome, and where, in 2001, she received the diploma of “Master in Restoration of Monuments” and the surveyor Mirco Castellani who, since 1988, constantly follows the technical and administrative procedures of the work sites.

With the founding of the Studio an interdisciplinary team of professionals, already united by a previously stable and profitable relationship, everybody highly specialized in their own area and thanks to the rich professional experience in different branches governing the science and technology of the restoration of the structural strengthening of buildings and historical monuments was created.

The exceptional professional results obtained by the Studio, in just a little more than ten years since its start, and witnessed by numerous prestigious assignments have been rewarded by the winning strategy, based on an ongoing collaboration over the decades, started and enriched by Giuseppe Tosti and thanks to his innate talent and professionalism that has grown and increased during the course of his prestigious career.

Giuseppe Tosti begins his professional career in 1957 alongside another great teacher and expert on the subject, Sisto Mastrodicasa, the founding father of the Theory of crumbling walls, to which the greatest experts both in the last century as well as the current one have referred to in their scientific studies and diagnosis of structural reinforcement.

The cultural heritage collected and transmitted by engineer Giuseppe Tosti is a source of inspiration to develop the work of the Studio with the idea that it should constantly be accompanied by research and experimentation aimed to identify innovative methodologies and technologies for improvement and always be at the service of restoration for the preservation of historical and artistic heritage.

In order to pursue these goals in 1988 Giuseppe Tosti decided to establish the Sisto Mastrodicasa Association together with topmost scientific authorities on the international scene in the restoration and structural engineering field, among others Prof. Salvatore Boscarino, Prof. Giovanni Carbonara, Prof. Salvatore Di Pasquale and

Prof. Elio Giangreco. It’s a cultural association with the aim to the spread the scientific research of the diagnosis methods and restoration techniques for crumbling brick buildings. In carrying out his activities, in fact, Giuseppe Tosti has steadily cultivated cultural exchanges with leading international experts in the research field and testing of innovative techniques.

Particularly with Prof. Giovanni Carbonara and Prof. Elio Giangreco he manages to implement numerous scientific experiments in the operational field, achieved during the “restoration projects” carried out with their precious collaboration, developing interventions and consolidation methods and structural seismic improvements that are reviewed in the most influential scientific publications.

In order to transmit the results to the next generation of engineers, from 1997 Giuseppe Tosti promotes, making use of the high level scientific training offered by the Sisto Mastrodicasa Association, the creation of learning experiences “in work”, addressed to young professionals through the “postgraduate campus in diagnosis and therapy of static damages” titled Save the Savable and through the institution of real “school work sites”, which are organized on an annual basis.

Giuseppe Tosti participates as a lecturer on an ongoing basis since the early 70s to several scientific seminars held by AITEC, AICAP, ANIASPER, ASSIRCO, ICCROM. He is, furthermore, invited by Italian universities, such as Venice, Turin, Bologna , Naples and Rome, and international universities, such as Bern, Bucharest, Istanbul and Havana, to conduct integrative restoration courses. He is a member of numerous scientific and technical commissions and author of texts for the study and preservation of prestigious monuments and for the realization of archaeological excavations, such as the Cathedral of Siena (on behalf of the Opera Metropolitana di Siena) and the discovery of the Meridian clock Augustus below the Basilica of St. Lorenzo in Lucina in the Campus Martius in Rome (on behalf of the Academy Germanica).

He has been invited by the public institutions to participate actively as a scientific consultant and specialist during natural disasters such as earthquakes (Friuli 1976, Umbria-Marche 1997, L’Aquila 2006 and Emilia 2012, Armenia 1988, Turkey 1999), floods and landslides.

Project management of international cooperation for training “in work” for the preservation of the architectural heritage and cultural World Heritage site by UNESCO.The Sisto Mastrodicasa Association, chaired by Giuseppe Tosti, in scientific collaboration with the Oficina del Historiador Ciudad de La Habana, directed by the architect Eusebio Leal Spengler, promotes and implements in the university of the Convent of San Jeronimo, the first and second edition of the International Campus “Salvemos lo Salvable” in diagnosis and therapy of static damages_Ciudad de La Habana May 6-14 2010 and May 6-13 2011. The project was aimed to the recovery of colonial Spanish architecture (XVII-XVIII century) in the historic center of La Habana Vieja, inserted in the list of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO in 1982.The most important result achieved was the creation of a joint project for the restoration and renovation of the prestigious Palacio del Segundo Cabo, venue of cultural and economic meeting spaces between the island of Cuba and the European continent.The restoration work, funded by the European Community, are in progress.
