Study abroad!

Would you like to take courses that aren’t offered at Stockholm University, try out new academic environments and gain new perspectives within your subject area? Apply for exchange studies at one of our partner universities!

Exchange studiesStudents at Stockholm University are offered the opportunity to study one or two semesters at one of our partner universities around the world. In order for you to be an exchange student there must be a formal exchange agreement between the universities. Stockholm University has exchange agreements at two different levels: the departmental level and the university-wide level – see the next page for more information.

Where can I go on exchange? Stockholm University is part of several international networks and has exchange agreements with several hundred universities worldwide. Check out where you can go in our exchange agreements database at: su.se/partneruniversities.

Why go on exchange?Exchange studies give you the opportunity to improve your language skills, increase your knowledge of other cultures, acquire international credentials and create a valuable network for your future career. There are also several practical advantages related to exchange studies:

• You don’t have to pay tuition fees to the hosting university.• Many agreements are with highly-ranked universities.• Credits can be transferred when you return so you’ll still finish your programme on time. • You’re covered by insurance through Stockholm University.• You’ll be assisted throughout the application process by your international coordinator.• You’re entitled to CSN’s financial aid, as long as you meet the requirements.• Some exchange programmes include a grant.

Who can go on exchange? Generally, all students registered at Stockholm University are eligible for exchange studies. In addition you usually must have studied for at least one or two semesters at Stockholm University. However, specific requirements and eligibility criteria may vary depending on the type of exchange programme you apply to.

Can I do a traineeship abroad? Yes! Both the Erasmus+ and Nordlys programmes offer scholarships to help cover living expenses during a traineeship abroad. However, you are expected to find the placement on your own. If you are interested in a traineeship abroad and want to know more about the application, contact a study counsellor or exchange coordinator at your department.

Where can I find more information? For further information please visit: su.se/studyabroad.
