    Subject: Personal and Social Education (PSE)

    Program during class teacher periods

    In the morning: 1. Devotion 2. Collect mobile phone and take attendance 3. Announcement of daily bulletin 4. Reading period 5. Address any student issues arising After school: 1.     Aims of PSE Program 1. To help students deal with difficult personal, social and global 2. Questions that arise in their lives; 3. To give students the knowledge, skills and understanding to play

    an effective role in society at local, national and international levels;

    4. To increase creative thinking; 5. To develop critical thinking skills; 6. To enhance students’ capacity for problem solving and decision 7. making in both the present and the future; 8. To develop students’ study skills, including discovering their 9. Own learning and personal study styles, effective time 10. Management as well learning the best way to prepare for exams. The PSE lesson is held at the first period on Tuesday mornings.

    Subject: Philosophy and Religious Education

    Curriculum content Semester 1: Jesus as a leader.

    Semester 2: Founders and Leaders, Worship and Celebration, Places of Worship and Pilgrimage.

    Homework and Assignments Homework will be set every two weeks. There will be an assignment for each topic, which will be handed in towards the end of each topic. The details of the homework and the assignments will be put on the VLE.

    Expectations of students To bring their workbook, a pen, pencil, rubber and glue stick to every lesson. To refer to the grade criteria every lesson, to ensure they are working to the best of their ability. To ensure that they have completed the work for every lesson. To be actively involved in lessons and to ask questions if they are unsure. To ask for extra support from the teacher if they feel they need it. This can be done during or after the lesson. Otherwise the teacher can also be found in the staff room. To complete homework on time.

    How parents can help

    Ensuring your child has their workbook for every lesson and a pen, pencil, rubber, ruler and glue stick. Checking the VLE and ensuring the students complete the homework, following the teacher’s guidelines and expectations. Contacting the teacher in charge of the class, if they feel their child is struggling with the subject. Alternatively if you have any concerns, please contact the Head of Subject.

    Subject: English Language

    Curriculum content Semester 1: 1. Unit 1: Media studies (Karate Kid 2010) – Identify different types of films,

    people in the film industry and related film vocabulary, research and read reviews and synopsis of the films

    2. Unit 2: Short stories (From the Four Corners) - read and analyze its structure, meaning and understanding. Identify features of short stories, character/plot analysis and demonstrate comprehension.

    Subject: French Curriculum content Semester 1 & 2:

    1. The whole of the Tricolore textbook will be covered, at the pace of roughly one unit per month.

    2. Regular exercises will be done in the Grammar in Action booklet, along with some handouts distributed in class.

    3. Monthly tests will be given at the end of each section. 4. Examinations covering the material so far will take place in

    January and in June. Homework and Assignments 1. Regular homework will be distributed at the end of the

    lessons (according to the homework timetable), to be handed in the following morning before 8.10am in Mr Gagnon’s pigeonhole next to the staff room.

    2. Self-learning tasks at home may be assigned after having covered some of the material in class (e.g Memrise.com).

Approximation and Errors The main resource is the textbook, New Century Mathematics 2A, but lessons will be supplemented with many other additional learning activities including puzzles, games, investigations, problem solving, group work, practical work and treasure hunts.

    Homework and Assignments Homework is set three times a week according to the homework timetable, for the following purposes: to practise, consolidate, complete or expand on work done in class; to provide opportunities for individual work and independent

    learning; to train students in planning and organizing their time; to encourage self-discipline and responsibility for learning;

    Form 2 students are expected to spend approximately 30 minutes on homework.

    Expectations of students Students are expected to be organized, meet homework deadlines and to participate in lessons with lots of enthusiasm, especially when contributing to class discussions! Three qualities are essential for success: hard work, a positive attitude and a willingness to persevere.

    How parents can help 1. Check the VLE for details about homework assignments 2. Set aside a specific time each evening so that your daughter/son can

    concentrate on completing her/his homework. Support your child in learning Mathematics and encourage her/him to seek extra help and as when necessary – during the lesson, recess, lunchtime or at Homework Club.

    Subject: Geography Curriculum content In this year, students will study the following topics:

    1. The trouble with water – too much and too little a. Water related problems: flooding, drought, pollution b. The situation in China and other parts of the world

    (Singapore, Bangladesh, UK) 2. Living with natural hazards

    a. Natural hazards around us: landslides, typhoon, earthquakes, volcanic eruption, tsunami, etc.

    b. Ways how different people deal with these problems The main resource is the textbook (Oxford Junior Secondary Exploring Geography Book 3, 5 and 11), but notes and worksheets will also be provided in lessons.

    Subject: Drama Curriculum content Activities and tasks to develop students’ oral, presentation and communication skills, their co-ordination, spatial awareness, confidence imagination, creativity and focus (concentration). Students will develop their ability to work in a group focusing on trust, cooperation and respect for others. They will also develop their ability to work independently and self-reflect on their own development.

    Subject: Home Economics Curriculum content Note: Classes are divided based on class numbers. One half takes Home Economics whilst the other half takes Art lessons. Students will switch over at the end of the semester.

    Semesters 1 & 2: 1. Revision of basic kitchen safety, hygiene and the uses of

    common equipment and utensils. 2. Revision and expansion on the concepts of nutrition,

    balanced/healthy lifestyles and different cooking techniques.

    3. Approximately 10 lessons of demonstrations followed by practical group work to create dishes such as Cheesecake, Muffins, Spaghetti Bolognaise and Curry.

    Homework and Assignments 1. At the beginning of the course, students are given the teaching content with a list of ingredients that they are expected to purchase themselves. The tasks of purchasing and bringing in the correct ingredients will be considered as assignments and assessed accordingly.

    2. Students are expected to bring their ingredients, aprons and containers to ALL practical lessons.

    Expectations of students 1. Students are expected to follow instructions carefully to ensure a safe learning environment.
