Symposium on Beta-Thalassemia

Sunday, 20th November, 2011 Venue: Hari Singh auditorium, Forest Research Institute campus

Scienti ic Program

During the past decade thalassemia and other inherited hemoglobin disorders have increasingly been

recognized as major global health problems, underscoring the impact of genomics in public health. With

improvements in blood banking facilities and improved access to newer iron chelator drugs, a productive life with

thalassemia has become a possibility for all. However, ‘control’ remains the mainstay of community health

programs in most countries. From a wider perspective β–thalassemia can serve as a template for the development

and application of preventive strategies for many autosomal recessive disorders.

This Symposium is an initiative of the Uttarakhand Government in capacity building, awareness and

education, with the aim of improving the lives of those with inherited disorders and their family members.

The organizers appreciate and warmly welcome your participation.
