2During the Design Development phase, we fi nalized our building layout. We were able to incorporate
Houston’s downtown atmosphere into the design by
creating an indoor courtyard and building the structure around
the space.

Concept: The concept for my health clinic was derived from the site itself as well as the Igbo people of Nigeria. Everything seemed to have fl ow. This lead to the idea of creating a structure that was not forced but rather had a seamless movement. In addition to the initial idea, I also incorporated a sense of community and unity within the center similar to the culture of the people that would utilize the facility.
Location: Igbo Land, Nigeria
Program: Outpatient - Reception, Emergency room, Pharmacy, Lab, Exam Room
Disease Prevention and Treatment - HIV Teaching Area, Treatment
Childbirth - Maternity Ward, Birthing Room, C-Section Room, Infant Ward
Inpatient - Waiting Area, Children Ward, Radiology, Lab, Pharmacy
Public Space - Shower/Restroom, Kitchen
Schematic Design
1During the Schematic Design phase, I used
my research of the physical environment, the native people,
and medical facility function to determine the layout.
The fi nal design was ultimately infl uenced most by the peoples
normal utilization of the land.
