    Faqir Chand Kohli (born February 28, 1924) is an Indianbusinessman. He is frequently referred to as the "Father ofthe Indian Software Industry. He was the first GeneralManager of Tata Consultancy Services, a leading Indian

    software consultancy company. He has also worked as theDeputy General Manager of the Tata Power Company.

    Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata (29 July 1904 29November 1993) was a pioneer aviator and importantbusinessman of India. He was awarded India's highest

    civilian award, the Bharat Ratna in 1992[1] and the Legion ofHonour from the French government in 1954.

    Innovation and R&D

    Tata Research Development and Design Center TCS established the first software research center in India, the Tata

    Research Development and Design Center, in Pune, India in 1981.TRDDC undertakes research in Software engineering, Process

    engineering and Systems Research. Researchers at TRDDC also developed Master-Craft (now called TCS

    Code Generator Framework ) a Model Driven Development softwarethat can automatically create code based on a model of a software, andrewrite the code based on the user's needs.

    Research at TRDDC has also resulted in the development of Sujal, a

    low-cost water purifier that can be manufactured using locally availableresources. TCS deployed thousands of these filters in theIndian OceanTsunami disaster of 2004 as part of its relief activities. This product hasbeen marketed in India as Tata swach, a low cost water purifier.

    Innovation In 2007, TCS launched its Co-Innovation Network, a network of TCS

    Innovation Labs, startup alliances, University Research Departments, andventure capitalists.
