Overview of agency resources
�Agency Information
� The Texas Legislature established the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA) in 1907. The agency's key objectives are to promote production agriculture, consumer protection, economic development and healthy living. The agriculture commissioner oversees the agency and is elected every four years. The current commissioner, Sid Miller, was elected in 2014.
TDA is a diversified state agency that provides value-added services through our regulatory and marketing and initiatives. TDA is headquartered in Austin and has five regional service offices, two sub-offices, three laboratories and five livestock export facilities.

�� The purpose of this program is to provide financial to young agricultural producers
that are engaged or will be engaged in creating or expanding an agricultural
business in Texas.
Young Farmer Grant
� Applicant must be between 18 and 45 years of age� Grant awards range from $5,000 to $20,000� Grant program offered twice per year (Spring and Fall)� Grant funds may not be used toward capital purchases
that exceed $5,000� Applicant must be able to make dollar-for-dollar
matching expenditures� Grant funds will be award on a cost reimbursement
basis� Costs must be within the term of the grant award
�� The primary objective of the CDBG program is to develop
viable communities by providing decent housing and suitable living environments, and expanding economic opportunities principally for persons of low- to moderate-income.
� Non-entitlement cities under 50,000 in population and non-entitlement counties that have a non-metropolitan population under 200,000 and are not eligible for direct CDBG funding from HUD may apply for funding through any of the Texas CDBG programs.
� Community Development and Economic Development grants are the most popular.

Texas Capital Fund (TCF)
�� Award matching grant funds for public
infrastructure to foster and stimulate economic development in rural downtown and Main Street areas.� Awards from $50,000 to $150,000� Funds for public infrastructure in applicant's
designated downtown or Main Street area� Aids in eliminating handicap barriers and deteriorated
conditions in downtown areas� Application deadline:
October 2016

� New funding opportunity will assist communities in achieving the goals of the TxCDBG program by developing enhancements that address any of the following needs:
