WABO®FLEX SR

Heavy-duty elastomeric expansion jointsystem

WABOFLEX SR comprises a monolithic mouldedneoprene section reinforced with integral structural steelangle plates, and an embedded hard-wearing aluminiumanti-skid plate. WABOFLEX SR is available in six typesdepending upon the movement required. The system isanchored to the structure by mechanical anchors.

Ancillary components:WABOFLEX SR is supplied complete with the followingancillary components:WABO URA: a two-part pourable polyurethane bolt cavitysealant.WABO SR: a one-part polysulphide bedding sealant foredge sealing and bedding.Mechanical fixing and chemical anchors, which areprovided as standard

WABOFLEX SR is an extremely durable heavy-duty

expansion joint system. It is particularly suited for roadbridge applications where movements up to 330 mmhave to be accommodated.

WABOFLEX SR sections can accommodatemovements up to 330 mm. For all types, except typeSR 13A, sections are supplied in standard lengths of1829 mm; type SR 13A is supplied in lengths of 1219mm.

• Continuous full-width tongue-and-grove jointsbetween sections provide watertightness

• High-strength ribbed aluminium alloy extrusioninserts provide skid-resistance

• Aluminium extrusions are vulcanised to theneoprene and mechanically locked to preventdelamination and buckling

• Ribbed armoured aluminium surface protects theneoprene rubber from vehicle abrasion and edgeload impact

• Steel angle plates are embedded in the neopreneto provide structural reinforcement

• Partial confinement of neoprene reducesdeflection under traffic load

• Multiple movement grooves split the deck openinginto smaller gaps for smooth transition

• Drainage channels provide rapid discharge ofsurface water

• Kerb details, skews and other directional changeare totally welded and treated to ensurewatertightness.

WABOFLEX SR2A, SR2.5A, SR4A, SR6.5A and SR9Aare supplied in sections 1829 mm in length. WABOFLEXSR13A is supplied in sections 1219 mm in length.

WABO URA bolt cavity sealant is supplied as a pre-packed unit with each part in 3.78-litre metal cans, whichyield 7.56 litres when combined

WABO SR bedding sealant is supplied in a 3.78-litremetal can.

WABOFLEX SR gland and anchor block components

should be stored free from contamination prior toinstallation, as contamination may impair theperformance of contact products such as WABO URAand WABO SR sealants.

WABO URA and WABO SR sealants should be storedunder cover, protected from direct sunlight, and clearof the ground. Storage conditions should be dry,above 7°C and below 30°C. Under normal storageconditions the shelf life of WABO URA and WABOsealants in unopened containers in 12 months.

WABOFLEX SR is a specialist expansion joint systemand should only be installed by contractors that havebeen trained and approved by WBA representative.

The primary operations involved in the installation ofWABOFLEX SR entail: creation and preparation of arecess, placing of a specific bedding mortar, drillingand location of anchors, placing of joint drain(optional) and secondary sheet membrane (optional),sequential placing and fixing of WABOFLEX SRsections, including applying WABO SR sealant forbedding sections and to tongue-and-groove joints,

final torque setting of bolt fixings, filling bolt cavitieswith WABO URA sealant, and creasting a transitionstrip with STRELAX RN or WABOCRETE II (seeProduct Data Sheets). Further details are availableupon request from local WBA representative office.

Users are advised to wear gloves and eye protectionwhen installing WABOFLEX SR.
