3.2.3.GearsensorInthe3seriesLCImanualtransmissionagearsensorisused,whichdetectsthecorrectpositionoftheindividualgearsaswellastheneutralposition.ThisinformationistransmittedtotheDME.Amechanicalreversegearswitchisnolongerrequired.
Thereisamagneticclipsecuredonthegearshiftshaft.Thealignmentofthemagneticfieldlinesofthemagneticclipareevaluatedbythegearsensor,whichisscrewedtothetransmissionhousingfromtheoutside.
The3Dmagneticfieldsensorsystemisintegratedinthegearsensor.Thistypeofgearsensormeasuresmagneticfieldswhicharealignedparalleltothechipsurface.Thisensuresthateverygearshiftandengagedgearisrecognized.
Thesensoriscapableofself-diagnosisandcaninputafaultinthesystem.

TheinformationfromtheneutralsensorisalsousedfortheMSAfunctionaswellastheshiftpointindicator,andenginespeedadaptationduringagearchange.
ThecorrespondingenginespeediscalculatedbytheDMEandheldforamaximumof2seconds.
Theenginespeedisadaptedinvaryingdegreesdependingonthedrivingmodeselected.
Forthecontroltheclutchpedalmustbefullypressedwhenshifting.

Therouteguidanceofthenavigationsystemdoesnotneedtobeactivatedforthefunction.However,theidentificationofaturn-offrequest,forexamplebytheactiverouteguidanceoroperationoftheturnindicator,helpstocontrolthesystemmoreaccurately.Up-to-datenavigationmapdataalsoinfluencesthecontrolaccuracy.

ThemeasuringrangearoundtheB-pillarandpartsofthedoorsisnotmonitoredbytheultrasonicsensors.Insteadthisareaisimagedusingacomputermodelwhilethevehicledrivespast.

Asaresult,thequality(biterrorfrequency)anddatarateofawirelessconnectioncanbeimprovedsignificantly.MIMOsystemscantransmitconsiderablymoreBit/sperHzbandwidthused,andarethusmoreefficientthanconventionalsystems.InordertorealisetheMIMOtechnologyatBMWbothdataantennaspresentinthevehicleareausedsimultaneouslyforthefirsttimefortheLTEconnection.MIMOoperatessimilartotheantennadiversityintheradiosystem.Thesignalofbothantennasissent,evaluatedandcombinedtominimizeerrorsandoptimizedataspeed.
