Aunty Chan, uncle Som’s wife, is not only a role-model farmer in the village, but also a hard working woman and a sensible advisor about the village’s development task for uncle Som.

Yes, there are many reasons. Those governments depend on the revenues from oil; they don’t consider alternate sectors like agriculture or other industries besides the oil industry…it is more risky that thegovernments are so dependent on oil revenue and keeprequesting loans, causing them to be unable to makerepayment at all....

I am also worried... I’m afraid that the money generated from oil andgas doesn’t go to government’s coffers, but flows into powerful people’s pocket... if so...we can’t expect any oil revenues to beused for development purposes...

We have to hire highly paid foreign experts, so we have to spend a huge budget...that’s not even regard to the construction of pipelines for refinery after oil exploitation…and the extra money spent on a refinery plant... if we don’t have a proper management of the revenues, there will be wider corruption is existence……so revenue from oil won’t be used for country development...

Yes, you are right... the issues of oil and gas, and mining are new for us... we have been told lots of mineral resources available in our country, while the exploitations have not been activated, or little exploitation has being carried out such as for limestone, and phosphate for fertilizer at Kampot province. The exploitation of underground minerals like hydrocarbon has not started…….more or less, we have to think together as this country is owned by us and our worries are not obvious……these needs to be the pre-consideration for the better arrangement of benefits from these minerals, so they are used for all people’s benefits.
