RAMADHAN BAZAARS

This month of June see us half way through the holy month of Fasting where Muslims all around the world fast during daylight hours and are only allowed to eat and drink at dusk. It is a month that sees a plethora of local delicacies being sold in various Ramadhan Bazaars and restaurants throughout the country. This is a real treat for foodies and tourists, as they are able to sample a wide variety of traditional fair ranging from the month-long favorite, Murtabak, Roti Jala, Laksa, Rendang, Lemang and a host of Kuih or desserts. Some of these dishes are only available during this Muslim holy month, as they are difficult to make, and it is in demand by the locals who look forward to breaking fast with them

You won’t have to go far to sample these local delights as they are available at our Majestic Festive Variety Dinner at Contango daily till 14 June 2018 from 6.30pm onwards at only RM145 Nett per person; and also at our sister property, Hotel Stripes Kuala Lumpur, where you can enjoy the Festive Celebration at only RM80 Nett per person.

If you are adventurous, you may also explore the various Ramadhan Bazaars which are around almost every corner of the city, from 4pm onwards. Some of the recommended ones will be as follows:

Ramadhan Bazaar Bangsar Baru (near the Saidina Abu Bakar As Siddiq Mosque)Ramadhan Bazaar Taman Tun Dr IsmailRamadhan Bazaar Jalan Tuanku Abdul RahmanRamadhan Bazaar Kampong Bahru

JALAN DANG WANGI

Jalan Dang Wangi – Originally named Campbell Road, it lies along the boundary of Kampung Baru, a Malay

agricultural settlement in the 1800s that still exist to this very day. It was named after Douglas Graham

Campbell (1867 – 1918) who joined the Selangor State Civil Service as a Surveyor in 1883. He later on became

the British Resident of Negeri Sembilan and subsequently the British Advisor to the Sultan of Johor in 1910. The

road was named to commemorate Campbell’s contribution to the creation of the Malay settlement.

Campbell Road was then officially renamed to Jalan Dang Wangi in April 1980, named after a personality from

the Malacca Sultanate era, who lived in the 15th century.

Dang Wangi is linked to the famous Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, and it is the address of one of the oldest

shopping complex in Kuala Lumpur, the Campbell Complex. One will also find a row of Pre-war shop houses

that has been preserved and houses local traders selling their daily ware.

During the month of Ramadhan leading up to the festivities of Eid, Jalan Dang Wangi would be part of the

epicenter of the Ramadhan bazaars in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Masjid India, where one will not only

find traditional Malay food stalls, but also be able to purchase Malay traditional wear and accessories.
