Requirements on the gas from the gasification
• No nitrogen- Should not dilute the SNG
Indirect gasification or oxygen/steam gasification
• Clean: no tar, S, Cl ...- Life time of catalyst
Gas cleaning
• ”High” pressure needed in the methanation.Either by high pressure gasification or compression of the gas
• High content of methane is an advantage- Heat is lost in the methanation
Gasification temperature below 1000°C

Gasification in Dual Fluidized Bed
• Fuel is feed to the BFB gasifier • The gasifier is fluidized with
steam• Char in fly and bottom ash from
the gasifier is burnt in the combustor riser
• Bed material is circulated to transport heat from the combustor to the gasifier
• Fly ash from the combustion is recirculated to the gasifier

Fuel feeding system
• Fuel: Initially wood pellets, aiming for forest residue
• Purged locked hoppers system
• Off-gas to PCC• Feeding to the bed with
cooled screw

Gas Cleaning – Overview
• Cooling of producer gas• Dust removal in a textile filter• Removal of tars and water
solvable pollutants in an oil scrubber
• Scrubber oil and water are separated. Oil is recirculated to the scrubber and water is vaporized and used as fluidization steam.

Combustion and heat recovery
• Combustion is made in two stages: riser & post combustion chamber.
• In addition to char also waste streams are incinerated.
• The heat of the flue gas is used to super heat the steam, preheat the air and for district heating.

Metso’s gasification solutions
Product gas for industrial kilns
• Sawdust, forest residues, fresh wood,
bark • 20 – 80 MWfuel units • Typically includes a
dryer • Dusty product gas • Also other types of
kilns possible
Product gas for power boilers
• Woody biomass, bark, peat, straw…
• Superior electricity efficiency
• (Existing) power boilers
• 50 – 150 MWfuelunits
• Typically includes a dryer
• (Gas filtering)
Product gas from waste for power
production
• Waste-derived fuel • High electricity
efficiency • Typically a new gas
boiler • Gas filtering -> clean
product gas • 50 – 100 MWfuel units
or multiple units connected to a boiler
Indirect gasification of
biofuels
• Suitable for clean biofuels
•Suitable for cases HIGH HEATING VALUE GAS is needed (SNG, refinery feed motors)
