MementoMemento is a ps ychological thriller based on a man suffering from anterograde amnesia, who uses notes, pictures and tattoos to huntf or the man he thinks killed his wife. Memento is classed as aps ychological thriller because of the film has elements that relate to the mind which are usuall y mental problems e.g Lenny . A lso

 within ps ychological thrillers characters tend to resolve conflict with their own mind. Usuall y, this conflict is to tr y and understandsomething that has happen to them. 

Protagonist/Anatgonist:Of ten in thriller genre mo vies the protagonist (Lenny) has a weakness, in this film his memor y . This then leads other characters such as the antagonist (Teddy and Natalie) take ad v antages of these 

 weaknesses.

Memento (opening)

The beginning of  memento begins at the end of  the film. Bef ore any action play s on the screen,the titles are shown on a close-up of a manhand holding a picture which show another man shot in the head and their blood splashedon the walls. There is also slow non-diegeticmusic play ing in the background which helps the audience to settle down and y et creates 

anxiety f or the rest of the film and m y ster y . 

During the opening scene of  memento there are a lot of close-ups used f or example the picture,Bullet, glassed and blood. This was used toallow the audience see the type of characters that are in the film and gives an insight of the stor y line.

Camera Work

Shot reverse shot: A lternating shot, usuall y consist of twocharacters in a dialogue 

sequence.

Match-on action: A cut that showtwo different vie ws of the same action together at the same time in the mo vement

180 degree rule: A rule that features two people or more in the frame and the cameraman is able tosee an imaginar y line joining the 

people in the scene together.
