    Dear Prospective Student,

Thank you for your interest in the Tidewater Community College (TCC) Nurse Aide Program.

This program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and clinical experience needed to work as a Nurse Aide. Additional emphasis on geriatrics will qualify the graduate to work in facilities that care for the elderly (Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Private Duty, Home Health Care.) The program meets the state requirements set forth by the Virginia State Board of Nursing for Nurse Aide. Tidewater Community College Nurse Aide Training Program has been given full approval by the Virginia State Board of Nursing.

Basic Nurse Aide Preparation Training at Tidewater Community College consists of two (2) courses. These are our Basic Nurse Aide Preparation Courses:

HCT 101 Healthcare Technician 1 (3 credits) and HCT 102 Healthcare Technician 2 (4 credits)

Upon completion of these two courses, you will be eligible to sit the National Nurse Aide Certification Examination for the State of Virginia.

TCC also offers a Nurse Aide Career Studies Certificate. This is a 25 credit program for students who intend to pursue an Associate of Applied Science degree in Nursing or an Associate degree in Science. You can complete nurse aide courses, earn your CNA, while earning credits toward your degree in nursing or science. As many as 17 credits may be applied toward TCCs Associate of Applied Science Degree in Nursing, and 18 credits to the Associate of Science Degree in Science.

Nurse Aide courses are held on the Virginia Beach, Portsmouth, and Norfolk Campuses of Tidewater Community College. Day, evening, and weekend courses are offered. Please check the college website www.tcc.edu for the schedule of current course offerings. There may be additional sections added during the semester, so it is a good idea to check often.

The information in this packet is designed to assist the applicant in following the steps of the enrollment process. The Nurse Aide faculty at Tidewater Community College hope the information contained in this booklet will be beneficial as you prepare to enroll.

    Best of Luck,
