At Trends Collection we are promotional product specialists and brand our products in house. We have our own printing factory which is one of the largest of its type in the southern hemisphere. Many di!erent branding technologies are available and you will see which ones are

suitable for each product under the “Branding Options” heading located beside each product. Below is a handy guide that brie"y describes each option and its branding capabilities.

Pad PrintPad printing uses a silicone pad to transfer an image to a product from a laser etched printing plate. Pad printing is one of the most practical and popular ways of branding promotional products due to its ability to reproduce images on uneven or curved surfaces and print multiple colours in a single pass. Close PMS matches can be achieved on white surfaces but as the colour of the product gets darker the ability to match PMS colours diminishes.

Laser EngravingLaser engraving gives a permanent #nish and creates a higher perceived value than direct printing. It is ideal for metal and glass items and because it is a digital process can be used for personalising products with individual names. Di!erent materials produce di!erent e!ects when engraved and if you are uncertain about the engraved #nish please ask for a pre production sample.

Full Colour LabelFull colour labels are used for products with substrates that are di$cult to print successfully with any other method. Full colour labels are either printed with a digital inkjet printer if they are vinyl or a digital printing press for paper labels. Only approximate PMS colour matches are possible with digital printing.

Screen PrintScreen printing involves forcing ink through a mesh screen with a squeegee onto the product or substrate and is excellent for large print areas on "at or cylindrical objects. Close PMS matches can be achieved on white surfaces but as the colour of the product gets darker the ability to match PMS colours diminishes. Screen printing is best suited for spot colour reproduction and is not recommended for logos with half tones in them.

Resin Coated FinishResin coating an image produces a stunning 3 dimensional e!ect and elevates the perceived value of any product. Vinyl labels are resin coated which produces a very durable weather proof label that is almost indestructible. Resin labels can be printed in full colour and used very e!ectively to brand a large variety of products. As they are digitally printed, only approximate PMS colour matches are possible.

B R A N D I N G I N F O R M A T I O N

2 T R E N D S C O L L E C T I O N

Full Colour TransferThere are several methods of producing transfers. They can be printed and cut to shape on a digital inkjet printer. Other methods are screen print, o!set or full colour digital printing onto a release media. These methods give a #nished print very similar to direct printing but the image is often much sharper and can reproduce #ner detail. Transfers are commonly used to brand textile surfaces and bags. They are pressed onto the product and produce a permanent bond. Only approximate PMS colour matches are possible with digital printing.

Digital MediaThis production method is used for printing media such as paper, vinyl and magnetic material used in the manufacture of labels, badges and fridge magnets etc. Both digital inkjet and digital printing presses are used in the production of digital media. It is di$cult to reproduce PMS colour matches with digital printing.

Kiln Fired DecalKiln #red decals are transfers printed with a ceramic ink that are applied to co!ee mugs and glassware which are then #red at high temperatures in a kiln. The advantage of kiln #red decals is that the print becomes part of the surface and is permanent. They are also good for decorating mug handles and the inside lip as well as producing larger print areas on irregular shaped mugs or glasses. It is possible to obtain approximate PMS colour matches.

SublimationSublimation is achieved by heat transferring a digitally printed full colour image from a paper transfer to the product. This process can reproduce stunning, vivid, full colour graphics but there is limited control over the colour outcomes which makes reproducing PMS colours very di$cult and in some cases impossible. Only certain surfaces and materials can be branded with sublimation printing.

Direct DigitalDirect to product digital printing involves the transfer of ink directly from the print head of a special inkjet machine to the product and can be used to produce full colour printing on "at or slightly curved surfaces. It is di$cult to reproduce PMS colour matches and some colours including metallic gold and silver are not possible to achieve. One big advantage of direct digital is that these machines can print a layer of white ink under the copy making them ideal for branding dark coloured products.

Product ColoursAfter choosing the product you wish to order, please select the colour option(s) you want. You will notice the correct colour descriptions are included in the text beside the product or under the illustrated colours for pens. Always order the exact colour description corresponding to the colour you want.The product colours illustrated are matched as closely as the catalogue printing process will allow. Actual product colours can also vary from shipment to shipment and this is beyond our control. Always ask to see a sample to verify the product and product colour is suitable for your requirements as we do not accept returns due to minor colour variations.

Product SuitabilityPlease ask to see an actual sample of the product you wish to order to ascertain its suitability for your requirements. We do not accept returns of products deemed not to be suitable for the desired purpose after they are branded.

Quantity VariationDue to the printing processes we use and the need to control the quality of both the product and the decoration, we reserve the right to supply 2% above or below the ordered quantity. We do our best to keep under or over runs to an absolute minimum, but reserve the right to invoice the actual quantity supplied.

PMS ColoursThe Pantone Matching System (PMS) was designed for mixing and controlling colours within the o!set printing industry and only works accurately with o!set printing inks used to print coated and matt white paper stock.All other printing processes including digital printing have adopted the PMS system as a colour reference guide for colour matching. It is important to remember that the inks used cannot be mixed according to the PMS recipes so PMS matches on promotional products can vary from almost perfect in some processes to only approximate in others. The colour of the product chosen is also a big factor in our ability to match PMS colours. Always ask for more information about PMS colours to ascertain if the printing process can deliver the level of accuracy you require on the products you order.

PrintingFor pad and screen printing; close PMS colour matches are best achieved on white products. Reasonably close matches can also be achieved on frosted clear and silver surfaces but as the colour of the product gets darker the ability to match PMS colours diminishes.Some lighter ink colours print very nicely on darker surfaces and others do not. Printing the right colour can be a complex issue and if we think the chosen print colours are not right for the product colour or will only give average results we will make a recommendation on the proof.

Full Colour PrintingFull colour printing is available on many of our products but full colour digital printing processes can only achieve approximate PMS colour matches at best. It is very important to be aware of this limitation as it is unavoidable and we do not accept returns based on digitally generated colours not matching PMS colours.Direct to product full colour printing also has the option of printing a layer of white ink under your logo which makes it excellent for decorating coloured products but please be aware that there is an extra charge if white ink is used.

Pre Production SamplesWe will warn you about printing limitations including the ability to match PMS colours on your proof so you are fully informed. Approving the proof acknowledges that you accept the limitations outlined, but if you have any concerns that the #nished product may not meet the standards you require we strongly recommend you request a pre production sample.

IndentMany of our products are available on indent and it is an e!ective way of reducing costs by purchasing in bulk. Your product is manufactured, branded and shipped direct from one of our overseas factories taking advantage of their lower production and branding costs. It also allows for a wider choice of colours, #nishes, accessories and packaging.Please ask for more information about the indent options available for products you are interested in.Pens are the most popular product ordered on indent and you will #nd detailed pen indent information on page 5.

Indent Lead TimesIt is important to remember that we achieve considerable savings by consolidating your indent order and shipping it in a container with stock items and other indent orders. The lead times from our manufacturers varies considerably and we will advise you of the estimated lead time once the manufacturer con#rms. Under normal circumstances it will be between 10 and 15 weeks from #nal approval. We can experience production or shipping delays which are beyond our control.It is possible to reduce the lead time by shipping your order LCL. This means the goods ship on their own as soon as they are ready but at a slightly increased cost. If you need faster delivery by sea please ask for an LCL quotation.Air freight and express courier are delivery options that will reduce the lead time considerably depending on the product. If you would like to air freight or express courier your indent order please ask for a quotation.

Indent Product VariationsOne popular cost saving idea is to purchase part of your order from our local production and the balance through our indent service. It is important to be aware that there can be minor variations in the colour of the product due to them coming from di!erent production runs. There can also be variations in the print colours, print area and the quality of the print. This is unavoidable and must be taken into account when ordering as we do not accept returns for variations in products produced locally and overseas.

Our pen indent service is a very e!ective way of reducing pen prices by buying in bulk. Your pens are made to order and printed or laser engraved in our overseas factories taking advantage of their lower production and printing costs.

Plastic PensIndenting plastic pens gives you the opportunity to virtually create your own pen. It is possible to select the colour and #nish for each individual pen part. PMS colours are possible but accurate matches can only be achieved with solid plastic colours. PMS matches on other #nishes will only be approximate. You can also choose the re#ll colour and special packaging options are available for an extra charge.

Plastic Pen FinishesSolid (opaque) Finish: This is the normal plastic #nish which can be matched reasonably accurately to PMS colours.Translucent Finish: Translucent #nishes are clear plastic with a coloured tint added. PMS matches are di$cult to achieve due to the transparent nature of the plastic.Frosted Finish: There are two ways to create a frosted #nish. The most common is to spray a clear lacquer on a translucent pen part which produces a frosted e!ect. The other method is to sand blast the mould which produces a matt #nish when translucent plastic is moulded. It is possible to achieve approximate PMS colour matches with both methods.Metallic Finish: Metallic #nishes are achieved by spraying pen parts with metallic lacquer. Approximate PMS colour matches are possible but of course they are in a metallic colour.Soft Touch Rubber Lacquer: This #nish is often used to coat grip parts as it looks and feels like rubber. It cannot be printed so should not be used on parts where printing is required. Soft touch rubber lacquer can give either a frosted or solid colour #nish and approximate PMS colour matches are possible.

Metal PensMetal pens can be indented in any colour or #nish with printing or laser engraving. The price will vary depending on whether you choose a painted or plated #nish.Painted Finishes: Painted #nishes are achieved by painting the pen parts with a lacquer and then heating them to produce a permanent #nish. It is very easy to produce PMS colours with painted #nishes.Plated Finishes: Plated #nishes are produced by electroplating. The pen parts are immersed in a solution containing dissolved metal and an electric current is passed through it. Metal is attracted to the pen barrel and produces a permanent metal plating.Electro plating is more expensive than painting but produces a much higher quality look and feel to the pen. PMS colours are not possible with electro plating.Anodised Finishes: Anodised #nishes are possible only on aluminium pens and you can choose shiny or matt. PMS colours can only be used as a guide and actual colours will vary from batch to batch.Double Anodising: There are two pens in our range that can be double anodised (Ozone and Verona). It is possible to design your own pattern and incorporate your logo into a double anodised #nish. PMS colours can only be used as a guide and actual colours will vary from batch to batch. Printing Areas And PositionsThe printing areas and positions for both printing and laser engraving may vary from our local production.Our overseas factories prefer to see artwork before quoting a #nal print area and your proof will show the copy set to the print area the factory has approved.

Proofs And Pre Production SamplesBefore production begins you will receive a proof. Once this is okayed the order cannot be cancelled for any reason including late delivery.A pre production sample will then be produced for #nal approval if required.

Co#ee Mugs make an excellent promotional gift or merchandising item. They give your image a billboard like exposure in homes and workplaces and remain to be seen for many months or years making them extremely cost e#ective. They are manufactured from a variety of materials which

all produce mugs of di#ering quality. It is important to take this into account when deciding on which one is right for your company.

Stoneware

Stoneware is traditionally the least expensive way of making co#ee mugs. They are made by hand from inexpensive !ring clay and then glazed to make them waterproof and stain resistant.

They make an excellent low cost promotional product but the process has some minor downsides it is important to be aware of. Firing clay has impurities in it which can cause some pin holes and small blemishes in the glaze. Also due to the fact that the mugs are handmade there can be some variation in the size and shape of each mug. Minor imperfections are part of an a#ordable process and must be accepted when ordering,

Fine Bone China

Bone china is stronger than stoneware and porcelain allowing it to be used for lighter more delicate mugs. Initially !ne bone china was made by adding bone ash to kaolin clay but today this has been replaced with feldspar.

Fine bone china co#ee mugs are the ultimate promotional co#ee mug when quality, strength and light weight are critical.

Porcelain

Porcelain is made from higher quality kaolin clay with the addition of several mineral rock elements and then !red at much higher temperatures than stoneware. This gives it an almost translucent look as the rock components start turning to glass within the clay. Porcelain does not need to be glazed to be waterproof and the quality of the !nal product is much more durable and of a higher quality then stoneware.

Glass

When glass is used to make co#ee mugs it has to be toughened so it will not shatter. This is done with further heat and chemical treatment after manufacture. Glass co#ee mugs often look quite cheap but when they are sandblasted to give a frosted !nish they become a sophisticated promotional mug that really stands out from the crowd.
