KÖSSEN WALCHSEE SCHWENDT RETTENSCHÖSSKössen is particularly captivating for winter sports enthusiasts: during the cold season in a wintry glow of lights countless paraglid-ers take off from Unterberg mountain, while skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts zigzag down the mountain and cross-country ski-ers enjoy the endless cross-country trails at the foot of the mountain. Kössen is a true El-dorado for athletes from all over the world.

Walchsee, the town and the lake, present themselves calmly and magically in ac-cord, complement each other harmoniously and offer a backdrop for unbelievable nat-ural spectacles. The ice covered Walch-see is magical when the temperatures are freezing cold. In the winter season, the easy slopes attract families and beginners alike, who learn their first turns with a lot of fun.

Great and mighty, the Wilder Kaiser moun-tains look down on the tranquil mountain village of Schwendt. Idyllic, almost kitschy, this jewel of the Alps seduces its guests with a relaxed atmosphere and tranquil-lity. But here, too, the fun doesn‘t come short: a cheerful toboggan run followed by a hot cup of tea by the open fireplace provide variety and enjoyment.

Rettenschöss is contemplative and incredi-bly charming in winter, because the Zahmer Kaiser mountains are a constant compan-ion in the village and attract attention with his clothing of white. While the mountains and valleys are covered in snow, you can feel how the inner peace and the connection to nature grow - especially during magical winter hikes in the crystal clear mountain air.

KÖSSEN

ENJOY EVERY TURN

The Hochkössen mountain railway will take you quickly and comfortably to the 1,430 m high mountain station at the top of Unterberg mountain. Not only a true parade ski area awaits you there, but also a ski region with absolutely guar-anteed snow. The impressive view of the imposing mountain world of the Wild Kaiser and the Zahmer Kaiser moun-tains is particularly breath-taking. In this dreamlike scenery you can enjoy the fantastic slopes down to the valley mo-ment by moment. Find your own pace.

OUR TIPDon‘t forget to stop for a bite to eat - our numerous ski huts serve delicious deli-cacies from the region.

CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING IN THE VALLEY

Unpack your cross-country skis and con-quer the record-breaking 240.5 km net-work of cross-country ski trails in the valley, which lead across the entire Kaiserwinkl. On one of the longest cross-country ski trails in Tyrol at 21 km, you will get to know the entire region and its variety. For all the night-owls among you, there is also a well illuminated night trail.

GOOD TO KNOW Our cross-country ski trails have been awarded the Tyrolean cross-country trail seal of quality.

FLY KÖSSEN

You will surely hear the flying greeting of-ten on the Unterberg-horn at about 1,800 m above sea level. Here, you are in the middle of the stronghold and pioneer site of European hang gliding and paragliding. Flight enthusiasts from all over the world float like majestic eagles overhead and draw colourful patterns in our skies every day. Try it out or take off in a hot air balloon.

OUR TIP Visit the unique Kaiserwinkl Alpine-Bal-looning, which is also the largest bal-loon meeting in Central Europe.

WOULD YOU CARE FOR SOME MORE?

Kössen, snow-covered in winter, offers a lot of variety: on a snow-shoe or winter hike, inner peace comes automatically when you breathe the fresh alpine air and enjoy the silence of nature. During a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride you can gather unforgettable impressions. Fun and action awaits you while snow-tubing.

WALCHSEE

DARE TO TAKE THE FIRST TURN

The small but extremely fine skiing area of Walchsee is ideal for young families, because you will find easy slopes at the edge of the village at the foot of the Zahmen Kaiser mountains. These are perfect for all skiers and snowboarders who practice their first turns. Our littlest holidaymakers especially love the ski re-gion, as the child-friendly ski school and the modern ski kindergarten with magic carpet and carousel provide variety.

OUR TIPLearn the joy of skiing in a playful and relaxed way.

Page 7: TOURISM ASSOCIATION OF WANT ITresc.deskline.net/documents/1/KAI/86c28ed7-c1bc-4c1e-ad1e-9d0b4… · CROSS-COUNTRY SKIING IN THE VALLEY Unpack your cross-country skis and con-quer

CROSS-COUN-TRY SKIING ENJOYMENT GUARANTEED

The Kaiserwinkl region is famous for its cross-country skiing far beyond the borders of Tyrol. The reason for this is its extensive network of cross-country trails, which has been awarded the Ty-rolean cross-country trail seal of quali-ty. The Kaiserwinkl is also one of the top cross-country skiing areas in the Alps because of its approximately two kilo-metres of snow-covered cross-coun-try ski trails, which are completely in-dependent of the weather conditions of winter.

OUR TIPGlide over the freshly groomed cross-country ski trails on Walchsee or circle the Schwemm Nature Reserve (Natura 2,000).

CHRISTMAS FAIRY-TALES DO COME TRUE

In winter, the snow-covered Lake Walchsee and the village of the same name are reminiscent of a fantastic fairy-tale landscape. Especially during the Christmas season, when streets, houses, guesthouses and hotels are il-luminated and decorated trees line the streets, you will be reminded of an Al-pine Christmas from old times. Tradi-tion and customs are now at the centre of life. The locals celebrate the Advent season quietly and contemplatively. Children‘s wide eyes watch as the lovely village prepares for Christmas.

SCHWENDT

Heat 1 litre of red wine with 3 cinnamon sticks, lemon zest, 1 lemon (in slices),

1 orange (in slices), 6 cloves and 5 Tbsp. of crystal sugar for 1 hour, but do not boil. Remove from heat and leave to stand for

at least half an hour. Enjoy mulled wine warm!

— Schwendter mulled wine recipe —

ORIGINAL & CONTEMPLATIVE

The dreamy mountain village of Schwendt is just a few kilometres further into the Kaiser mountains and at 700 metres above sea level. Here you will find ski trails, wild animal tracks in the snow and hear horse-drawn sleighs gliding through the wintry mountain landscape instead of cars. In this fairy-tale-like vil-lage everything is still very original, here you will learn to appreciate the simple things like cosiness and peace. Cut off from the noise of the world, Schwendt is perfectly connected to the other towns in the region by the cross-country trail network and the connecting road.

A highlight is the toboggan run near Schwendt. On beautiful winter days there is always a lively hustle and bustle. Big and small unpack sledges, bobsleds and toboggans and conquer the slopes with lots of fun and laughter.

OUR TIPAfter an extensive toboggan run, its best to warm up with tea or mulled wine by the fireplace. Try our mulled wine recipe.

RETTENSCHÖSSWash 4 apples well and remove the casing. For the filling, fry 100 g ground almonds in a pan (without fat) and mix with 3 Tbsp. sugar, lemon peel, juice of one lemon, 2

Tbsp. cranberry jam and 3 Tbsp. milk and fill into the apples. Brush apples with butter and bake at 220 °C for approx. 20 minutes.

— Rettenschösser baked apple recipe —

IDYLLIC & AUTHENTIC

Untouched nature and a truly majestic view of the Zahmen Kaiser mountains await you in Rettenschöss at almost 700 m above sea level. Here, time seems to almost stand still, because people also become quieter when the earth rests. On comfortable hikes in the surroundings of Rettenschöss you can enjoy the gentle side of winter. It is an unforgettable mo-ment for young and old when the snow-man built together gets a face with coal eyes and a carrot nose. How about a snowball fight - who dares throw the first snowball?

OUR TIPThe Antonius Chapel is in a particularly idyllic location in front of the panorama of the Zahmer Kaiser mountains. Enjoy a roasted apple after a long winter‘s day outdoors.
