Wire
• Anode wire: – no major problem reported since March.– In Dubna and Hd: some Anode wire seemed weak (breaking
during winding).– 10% of rolls identified as bad.– Recent deliveries looked very good.
• Cathode wire:– Some doubts about quality occurring once in a while. 7% of rolls
identified as ‘Bad’.– Also ‘good’ rolls display irregular surfaces-> increased danger of
premature aging (Malter effect).– Different manufacturer available: will be tested at GSI in the next
chamber.– Decision to buy new wire, discard old wire?

Hardener
• Bad batch of hardener: – Production stop for ~5 weeks– Additional delay due to shipment for Dubna/Bucharest– New Hardener tested by Jörg: OK
(shear strength, surface conductivity)
– Some changed behavior: longer curing time (24h), sticky surfaces already at <40% rel. humidity.
– Bucharest: higher surface conductivity, humidity caught in sticky surface?

GSI gain uniformity
•Bad uniformity on L5C1 chamber
•Most likely bent pad plane panels
•Not really understood
•L4C1 panel glued with weight in the middle
•Good uniformity

Schedule Future Material procurement
• With production delays:– No material shortage expected before Autumn
2006– Fits well with expected date of decision to
build 100% (April 06 ?)– Realistic chance to get rest of material in time.

Potential Stones on our way…
•L-profiles: to be seen (Choice of material)
•Radiator: sometimes bad gluing joints, L0C1: carbon laminate came off easily: has to be watched
•Glue (Epoxy comp.: Aw116, AW106): QA needed
•Anode wire: changing quality; QA: difficult
•Cathode wire: changing quality; QA difficult
•Back panel: Quality control at Fischer (Manfred Mast): OK•Pad planes: Quality control in Hd/F: OK
•Wire ledges/distance ledge: no problems expected
•Field cage PCB: no problems expected
•HV cable: so far only 1 bad batch, new rolls are tested at Hd, OK•Signal cables: so far no problems: new order needed soon•Glue (Hardener): tested and bought in large quantities

Chambers for 1st SM
• Chambers from Dubna and Bucharest will be shipped in October.
• Chambers from GSI should arrive end of October
• Chamber test of leak rate +HV after transport.

Conclusions
• Chamber production delayed by 3 month (compared to estimate in Feb)
• Hardener: open questions?
• Cathode wire: change manufacturer, how soon?
• Schedule: still acceptable, but cannot afford much more delays
