Sunshine For Years To Come

INSPIRED BY YOUR SUCCESS

You cannot argue with these kinds of specifications; €800 million yearly turn over from 850 professionals and a footprint that extends to over 35 countries. TSK has always pursued the clear objective of building a leading group in engineering development and supplying facilities of the highest quality.

TSK GRUPO

According to Rafael the company TSK was established and launched as a public limited company in 1986 and was the result of the combined skills of the electrical engineering and

electrical installations divisions at Grupo ERPO, a group specialised in turnkey industrial projects and the first engineering company listed on the Spanish stock exchange.

“In 1990, TSK’s current stockholders acquired TSK from Grupo ERPO and this launched the new stage of the company’s development,” he reveals, “Then in 1995 a German company, namely PHB Weserhütte, who specialised in the design and supply of mineral storage and handling facilities, was acquired.”

Thus began a journey of investment and development that helped further TSK’s reach and influence such as involvement in the environmental field in 1999 where they focused on the turnkey installation of water treatment plants. This allowed them to not only secure a niche but broaden their expertise and capabilities for future projects.

“IN 2006, TSK began work in the solar photovoltaic field and to anchor the best skill sets into their projects, they acquired the engineering firms Ingemas and Irelsa. “Further subsidiaries in Brazil, Nicaragua and Chile were established in 2008 and the first themo-solar projects were launched” Rafael says. By this stage a firm international presence had been established and further expansion to the Middle East in 2011 began with projects in Saudi Arabia, India and Bangladesh, which offered them important opportunities to gain experience of working in different countries, under different conditions and within different working cultures.

“This is important,” Rafael professes, “While having the working knowledge is important, you have to be able to understand the cultural differences to be found in different countries. Such understanding is where you are able to influence and motivate a professional workforce,”

Seeing at the time that photovoltaics were going to play a hefty role in the future of energy, TSK set themselves the task of becoming

experts in this field. So their acquisition mission continued and two years ago, in 2013, they purchased Flagsol, a German engineering company that specialised in solar plants.

“It was at this time that 93% of our activities were now outside of Spain,” Rafael explains, “And with a turnover of 800 million Euros we had firmly reinforced our position as a technology company with an enviably strong international presence in engineering and industrial construction.”

Having worked for the company himself for several years, Rafael has recognised that there is a strength in the dedication TSK exhibit to their mission. With their eyes firmly set on a target, whatever the industry or the economy may throw at them, they are ready and prepared to meet it head on with a strategy already in place.

“It’s all about the satisfaction of our employees,” he explains, “If you want satisfied, loyal and repeat customers you need to have happy, well prepared employees who understand their role in the company.”

Too many companies focus too little on the employees, Rafael explains, whereas at the heart of TSK is a dedication to the people who form the company and a commitment to their personal and professional development. It is no surprise therefore that the company is able to go above and beyond their own expectations, considering they do the same for the expectations of their people.

Of course, the investment into their staff is purely so that the customers can be better looked after and as a company striving to remain on the cutting edge in terms of human and technological resources and profitability, they are in a fine position to do so.

“It is important to offer efficient solutions in the field of engineering and equipment, which contribute to sustainable development, both nationally and internationally, ensuring the satisfaction and trust of our customers,” Rafael says, “You need to remain alert and proactive to any opportunities. You can never stand still.”

Speaking with Southern Africa Business Manager, Rafael Lapique, it is clear that this is a company that puts their ‘guarantee’ of service excellence at the very top of their priorities, “Our priority is to meet the needs of our customer, offering them all the technical and human resources necessary, every step of the way,” he says.

QUALITY AND EXCELLENCEInherent in any company should be a promise of quality and

excellence, however, so many businesses can become victims of their own successes and allow too many customers to fall through the net and be left disenfranchised. To counter this possibility TSK places a great amount of stock in their reputation, not only with their customers but within the industry as well.

“Our companies’ activity forms part of services to industry, which means that flexibility and cooperation are key elements fundamental if we are to compete with larger companies with greater resources,” he says, “We must transmit these qualities with a deep seated value of commitment and respect throughout all our companies and be ready to adapt, as a team, to any changes which might arise.”

EXCITEMENT AND PASSION LEADS TO INNOVATIONTSK prefers its staff to always transmit excitement and passion

for their projects. When used together they can create a real energy about a company which makes encouraging the ongoing innovation that has become a benchmark for TSK possible.

“We face the constant challenge of improving our products and services through innovation and applied research as one of our development opportunities, in search of greater competitiveness both nationally and on the global market, where innovation is the differentiating factor that enables us to provide added value in everything we do,” he says.

MOHAMMED BIN RASHID AL MAKTOUM SOLAR PARK Solar power company, First Solar has signed an agreement to

supply modules for the 200MW second phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park in Dubai; a massive project that will require 2.36 million First Solar modules over 450 hectares. The first 13MW phase of the park used 152,880 First Solar modules.

The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) selected a consortium comprised of TSK and ACWA Power, to develop construct, own and operate the IPP project and once completed in early 2017, the project will be the largest PV plant in the Middle East, producing enough power for 30,000 homes in the United Arab Emirates.

In a recent interview, Ahmed S. Nada, vice president and region executive for the Middle East at First Solar, said: “This project’s

impact on the global energy transition cannot be overstated. It has effectively driven down the cost of solar electricity, marking a new milestone in solar PV’s evolution as a mainstream energy resource.”

The modules provided by First Solar are due to be installed at the 52.5MW Shams Ma’an solar PV plant, currently under construction in Jordan and scheduled for completion in the second half of 2016.

Another project that has hit the headlines recently is the Shagaya MW Thermal Solar Power Plant in Kuwait where TSK won a $385 Million order for a Solar Power Plant In Kuwait in September this year.

“Kuwait have taken bold steps towards realising their target to have 15% of its electricity generation coming from renewable energy projects by the year 2030,” Rafael says.

Kuwait recently signed a contract with Spain’s TSK Group to set up a 50 MW solar photovoltaic power project, Isabel explains, “The contract is worth $365 million and will see the project start commercial operation in 2017. The project will be set up at Shagaya, 100 kilometres from Kuwait City and near the country’s border with Saudi Arabia and Iraq. When commissioned, the project will generate enough electricity to fulfil needs of 100,000 homes and save energy equivalent to 12.5 million barrels of oil every year.”

The Government also signed similar contracts for two 10 MW solar PV power projects earlier this year. At least one of these projects will be developed by Kuwait Oil Company which, in turn, has awarded the contract for construction of the project to another Spanish company, Gestamp Solar. All three projects will be funded by the Kuwaiti Government, however, in the future, projects shall be allocated to private sector companies under a build-operate-transfer mechanism.

The country’s Electricity and Water Minister, Ahmad al-Jassar, stated that Kuwait plans to generate 4.5 GW from wind and solar power projects by 2030, when the total power demand is expected to increase from its current level of 12 GW to 30 GW. By 2025, the Government expects to have an operational renewable energy capacity of at least 2 GW. The renewable energy target was announced in 2012 when Kuwait also set a target to generate 1% of the total electricity from renewable energy sources by the end of this year.

“TSK have a long history of projects that help us not only reach our next targets but also help change the world,” Rafael says in conclusion, “This is an exciting industry that is just entering into its growth phase and we are expecting sunshine for a long while to come,”
