Across our region...

The 38th annual Eastern Shore MedicalSymposium, held in Rehoboth Beach,Delaware experienced record enroll-ments. Jointly provided by Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University and Professionaland Continuing Studies, the conferenceprovides a comprehensive update onrelevant medical topics to physiciansand other health care professionals.

Each Social Media Marketing StrategyCertificate class supports a nonprofitorganization by creating tailored socialmedia marketing strategy. This spring,the nonprofit credited the class’s work with boosting the money raised at theirfund raising event. The program won anoutstanding program award from theUniversity Professional and ContinuingEducation Association’s Mid-Atlantic Region.

In response to requests for process improvement training in health care settings, Professional and ContinuingStudies offered Improving Health CareProcesses, a four-day seminar held atthe Virden Center in Lewes, Delaware.The demand was so great that BeebeHealthcare will offer the seminar onsitefor 25 employees.

The leaders who take the ChristianaCare Certificate in Healthcare Leadership use what they learn to positively change how we deliver healthcare to Delaware. The program, createdby Professional and Continuing Studiesand the Lerner College of Business andEconomics, received the University Professional and Continuing EducationAssociation’s 2015 Engagement Awardfor the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Professional and Continuing Studies and the Lerner College of Business and Economics provided process improvement training to the DelawareJudiciary and affiliated agencies. Preliminary feedback indicates positiveoutcomes, including savings in time,money and labor and quicker case management. Delaware is one of thefirst state level judiciaries to strategicallyapply process improvement techniquesto the wheels of justice.

Throughout our community...

More than 50 University of Delawareemployees explored the education opportunities available to them at UD at an open house sponsored by Professional and Continuing Studies and UD’s Human Resources. Employeeswho used their education benefits tocomplete degrees and certificatesshared their experiences, enthusiasmand sense of accomplishment.

In our schools...

Since the inception of the Governor’sSchool for Excellence, Professional andContinuing Studies has partnered withthe Governor’s Office to expose talentedhigh school juniors to a wealth of experience in academics, art, music andtheatre. In 2015, 32 UD faculty membersfrom six colleges and 16 departmentsprovided a rich and varied array ofcourses, workshops and field trips.

Through lifelong learning...

An Osher Lifelong Learning Instituteclass in Dover explored letters writtenfrom a Belgian soldier in World War I toElsa, a young American girl. Students expanded their fluency in French andlearned about the war while composingfictional return letters from Elsa to her“little Belgian soldier,” as he referred tohimself. The resulting story, Chausettes et Chocolat, will become an educationalresource in addition to a touching story.

Around the world...

Nineteen poultry professionals from 18 countries gathered for the EmergencyPoultry Disease Response Certificate,sponsored by the College of Agricultureand Natural Resources and Professionaland Continuing Studies. Participantslearn from UD’s internationally recognizedexpertise in managing the outbreak of apotentially catastrophic poultry disease.

In 2015, PCS served a total of 1,209 elementary, middle, and high school students across our state.

The ACCESS Center provides career exploration and

academic advising.

857 Osher Lifelong Learning courses were offered in 23 subject areas throughout Delaware.

PCS served students from 22 countries around the world.
