Sometimes this problem is caused for Insufficient Caloric Intake,but sometimes the reason could be for other causes like Parasities ordenture Problems.Other are impossible to diagnose until the Necropsy.The Point here is the Previous Diagnose.

Parasites

These can be a major contributing factor toweigth loss

Parasitism is not as comun as last yearsbecause of improved dewormers and

deworming programs

They can cause damage to the intestinal

Lining, making dificult to the body absorb theNutrients.

It can also cause Swelling of the intestinallining, cause the elimination of Electrolytes,

sugars and Amino-Acids (wich supose tobe inthe inetstine) with the Manure.

Teeth

Teeth have a form, this form let the Horses eat Coarse Roughage, when thisForm changes and it get sharp the horse can have lacerations of the cheek,tongue or gums, obviously this makes Chewing Painful

YoungHoses

The presence of teeth capsthat not dislodgeappropriately, that meansthat in future the horse willhave two sets of teeth.

A portion of milk toothremains and makes thechewing act so difficult.

AgedHorses

One of the primaryproblem in aged horses

is the loss of Molarsteeth,

When the molars getlost the food it isnt

crush well and the foodenter to the digestive

tract in too large pieces

Disease

The diseases can be a factor in the underwigth horses, this factor disturb theprotein use, wich is visible with naked eye, even if the diet is the adequate thedisease is disturbing the nutrient processing.

As example we have the Horses with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary

Disease, this horses burn more Calories than Horses with normal BreathingPatterns

The Horses with Kidney problems usually excrete the proteins in the Urine.

As humans,horses canbecome Unhappywhen the

environment areuncomfortable.The stable vicesare bad actionsthat an animalcan develope, this

Vices causes acalories wasting,therefore aweigth loss

When a horse (every Animal) is in a stressfulsituation or it experiments Pain the body releaseAdrenaline, this hormone put it body in Catabolismstate, the Catabolism causes the breakdown of thebody energy.

CONCLUSIONS

A Horse in Underweight is normal when the diet is incomplete,if this isnt varied and it is poor the diagnose is Obvious,but what happens if the diet is complete and balanced?

Here we have 4 possible reasons wich may be analysed by aVeterinarian and then atack the problem.
