CALDES 0461 497160 Located in the lower part of the valley and overlooking the Noce River, this magnificent castle dominates over the town of Caldes. The castle’s present appearance is the result of various architectural interventions that began back in the 13th century and continued up until the 16th century. There is a legend surrounding the castle that describes how a young woman named olinda was locked in a small room within the castle by her father, in order to prevent her from

marrying arunte, the castle’s minstrel. after being imprisoned in the castle, olinda died of a broken heart. Decorative accents in several rooms of the castle are currently being restored. The Castle can be partially visited during the summer with free admissionOpen: until 5/11 every day from 10.00-18.00 and every Thursday during july and august from 10.00 -20.00 (closed on non-holiday Mondays). It is also called “Casa Malanotti-Greifenberg” named after the illustrious families from Caldes and Terzolas that once lived in the home. The term “Torraccia”, which means small tower, very likely comes from the fact that the residence has a small round tower on the northern façade, now in ruins. within the building there is a “Sala Nobile” (noble room) which is defintely the most inte-resting room due to its elaborate furnishings. The Library’s collection has an inestimable historic and cultural importance.

It’s definitely one of the most beautiful towers in Trentino due to its unique characteristics. VAL DI SOLE ROUTEThe Val di Sole Route is a 22 km nordic walking trail that starts in the town of Cavizzana and goes all the way to Mezzana with additional 4 km trails in each of the ten towns. The Stelvio National Park covers an area of 130,700 hectares of alpine territory, shared by the Provinces of Bolzano (Val Venosta), Trento (Val di Sole) and the Lombardy Region (Valtellina and Valcamonica). It is the largest Park in the alps and among the largest in Europe. Below the snow-clad peaks and perpetual glaciers, the landscape in the Park’s valleys is characterized by conifer forests and pastures. The National Park was set up in order to preserve, for the benefit of future generations, the geological structure and wildlife of this alpine region, as well as to protect the art, culture and history of its inhabitants. The Park promotes scientific research and encourages touristic and cultural visits. Since 1977, the Stelvio National Park has been linked to the Swiss National Park of Engadina. The two Parks together are a unique, large multi-natio-nal protected area.

The Stelvio National Park Visitor Centres of Cogolo and Rabbi organise hikes in the wilderness accompanied by the “Park Guides”. Cross the bridge and turn right onto the link road that will take you to the Monte Sole Malga road. Following the latter, you will get to the lower Malga Monte Sole (Bassa) in about 30 minutes. The road continues up in the woods until it reaches the edge of the higher Malga (alta) pastu-res. The Malga is located at a height of 2.050 m, at the outer limits of the vegetation growth. Turn left and walk onwards for about 1 km on flat ground in order to reach Malga Fassa. To return, take the forestry road down to the main road of Val Cercen, that will take you back to the Fontanon picnic area in about 15 minutes. From here it will take about 20 minutes on foot to reach the parking in Rabbi Fonti.Leichter Weg - 4 Std. - Höhenunterschied 500 mMit dem Auto fährt man bis zum Parkplatz des Fontanon, weiter zu Fuß ungefähr 500 m bis zur Brücke des Flußes Ragaiolo, die überquert wird, dann biegt man nach rechts ab auf die Straße die sich mit der verbindet, die zur Monte Sole-Alm bringt. Man läuft auf dieser ungefähr eine halbe Stunde bis zur unteren Monte Sole-Alm.Läuft man weiter durch den Wald, kommt man am Weidenrand der oberen Monte Sole-Alm in 2050 m Höhe, am Vegetationsrand. Von hier aus geht man links weiter auf einem ebenen Weg für ungefähr einen Km bis zur Fassa-Alm.Bei der Rückkehr schlägt man die Forststraße ein, die sich mit der Hauptstraße der Val Cercena verbindet und von hier aus läuft man noch 15 Minuten zum Parkplatz des Fontanon.

Kommt man auf die Landstraße, gelangt man nach kurzer Zeit zur Frattasecca-Alm (Picnick-Rastplatz). Von hier aus folgt man der Militärstraße, die zum Cadini-Wasserfall bringt. Man wendet sich ostwärts zum Val Taviela, bis zur Talmulde des Covel-Sees, ein bedeutendes Biotop, daß auf Grund der vorhandenen Sumpfflora unter Umweltschutz steht. Vom See aus teilt sich der Weg, der zu den Hütten von Predafessa führt, zwischen Wälder und Weiden, bis zum Dorf Peio.

Der Naturpark Adamello-Brenta gehört seit Juni 2008 zum europäischem und internationalem Netz der Geoparks und ist das größte unter Umweltschutz stehende Gebiet des Trentinos; mit seiinen 620,5 km² im Westen beinhaltet es den Teil im Trentino der Adamello-Presanella-Gruppe und im Osten die gesamte Brenta-Bergkette.Sein Gebiet zeichnet sich durch die vielfäl-tige Landschaft aus und er besitzt aus naturalistischer Seite aus einen unermesslichen Wert. Cheese is absolutely central to the gastronomy of Val di Sole. This tasty mountain dairy product is made and directly available from different producers as well as from the two main dairies in the valley: “Cercen” in Terzolas and “Presa-nella” in Mezzana. alongside the flavoursome Trentingrana, local co-oked cheeses ripened to different degrees, are other outstanding va-rieties of Casolét, a traditional pro-duct of Val di Sole. Today, Casolét, which is made with raw cow’s milk and is a typical mountain Cacio, a raw, soft, whole milk cheese, is one of the true delights of dairy produce in Trentino. once it was only made in the autumn, when the herds had already been brought down from the mountains and the daily milking gave poor results. Therefore, it is an authentic ho-memade cheese, mainly eaten in families over the long winter months. The name is Latin

in origin: it comes from “caseo-lus” meaning “small cheese” and in fact the traditional cheeses are about 7-12 cm high with a diame-ter of 10-22 cm, and they weigh just around a kilo.

Between late august and early September, a food and wine event is organised in Val di Sole, dedica-ted mainly to Casolét, two weeks with the typical flavours of Trentino, with a particular focus on this local cheese, which is protected with a designation of origin and is part of a tasty mountain culture that needs to be safeguar-ded.

Genau deshalb war er der hauskäse par excellence, der während der langen wintermo-nate vorwiegend zum Familien-gebrauch diente. Der vom Latei-nischen „caseolus“ abstammende Name, was soviel wie „kleiner käse“ bedeutet, weist auch auf die traditionelle Form hin, die auch heute noch einen Laibrand von ungefähr 7-12 cm und 10-22 cm Durchmesser mit einem Gesamt-gewicht von einem knappen kilo hat. Ende august bis anfang Sep-tember findet im Val di Sole eine zweiwöchige, kulinarische Veran-staltung statt, in der sich alles um den Casolét dreht. Viele Trentiner köstlichkeiten werden mit diesem typischen käse verfeinert, der als Erzeugnis einer besonderen und schmackhaften Bergkultur ge-schützt wird.
