Sensus Connected TouchIntroduction

IntroductionThe Sensus Connected Touch (SCT)transforms the car’s infotainment systemto a connected media center withmulti-touch screen. The touch screen caneven be used with gloves.Surf the web, listen to thousands ofradio stations or play music from popularservices that offer streaming musicservices from the Internet.Connect your 3G or 4G USB modem tothe Sensus Connected Touch or shareinternet from your mobile phone viaWiFi. Connection of the car to Internetenables many new exiting features andopportunities.Besides using the touch interface, theunit can also be controlled via buttons onsteering wheel or on the centre console.The Sensus Connected Touch also havea voice search function for music calledvoice recognition, it search in all the activesources that are linked to the SensusConnected Touch.From a intuitive touch interface, you geteasy and quickly access to a variety ofapplications with features like integratedbrowser, navigation, Internet radio, music,email and more. Sensus ConnectedTouch is mounted in the glove box and

offers Several inputs where you canconnect external storage devices andaudio and video sources.

Center stack keypadTurn Sensus Connected Touch on bypressing the MEDIA button twice until themedia category is shown.It is also possible to use the steeringwheel buttons or the rotary push selector.

Scroll to Connected Touch, and press OK.

Home screenThe Home screen is the first view that theuser encounters in the SCT system.From this view a single left swipe in theright part of the screen takes the user toapplication launcher.

Side menu

The side menu is always visible, both inhome menu and in application launcher.

Home button

A short press takes you to the SCT homescreen.A long press on the Home button, (2seconds) shows all active sources in SCT.

Back button

Back one step.

Menu button

The menu button have differentfunctionality depending on the applicationyou use.Press the menu button in the home screento reach Help Center.Press the menu button in the launcher tochoose between static or dynamic orderfor the applications in launcher.

Voice recognition button

Voice recognition for music searchsupports all connected media andstreaming music services.Press the Voice recognition button andsay any artist, (some nicknames alsowork), record album or radio station.When searching for record album, startwith the name of the artist.A search will begin in all applications thatyou have started and you can see theicons of the application that are beingsearched.Long press on the Home button, to see allactive sources in SCT.The search result will be displayed onthe screen, the first entry in the list willautomatically start playing

Just press the Voice Control Button againto return to the complete search result.To be able to use the search functionto music from phones they must beconnected with the USB cable in to SCTsUSB inputs.

The voice recognition search onlyworks on the active sources in SCT.

The voice search functionality is limitedto the artists & albums listed in thedatabases of Gracenote, Tunein, andSpotify.

Idle mode

The SCT system goes into idle mode after2 minutes if there is no interaction withthe system. In idle mode a dimmed downversion of the home screen is shown.The only full lit items shown in idle modeis the clock and the side menu.

Weather widget

Left in the widget the temperature isdisplayed.Beside the temperature the location nameshow.A brief weather description is located justbelow the temperature.Below the weather description is a locationindicator (gps arrow and dots).

In the weather widget, the user can swipeleft/right to jump between the addedlocations.The first in line (marked with a gps arrowinstead of a dot) is the "CURRENTLOCATION". Single tap anywhere inthe widget area to launch the weatherapplication.

When weather data is not available, datasuch as temperature is replaced with - -"CURRENT LOCATION" will be the onlyvisible information.

For saved locations the location name willstill be available.For more information see Weatherapplication

Clock widget

The time is synchronized with the carclock setting.

Pressing in the info area of the widgetwill launch the "Now Playing" view of theMusic Player.

Music/radio widgetThe music widget will appear automaticallywhen music starts playing.The music player allows you to play musicfrom your phone, USB memory sticks,SD cards or other devices connected toSensus Connected Touch.It will also play music from applicationsusing streaming music and from internetradio stations.For more information about a specificmusic source read the application text.

Regular play viewIf the music playing is paused/stopped thelast played song title and artist name isdisplayed in the music widget.In the Status bar an icon of the runningmusic application will be shown.

In the launcher there are severalnavigation shortcuts the user can utilize.First, the string of application Icons can bespun for faster navigation.Second, the user can swipe the fingeralong the string below.The square on the left hand side of thestring of pearls, represent the homescreen, if you press on it you to return tohome screen.

To hide applications in the Launcher:

• Select the Settings icon in the launcher

• Select Applications

• Select Hide applications in Launcher

Exit an application

Steering wheel buttons and Centre stackknobAlmost all applications can be exited bypressing:

• Back button in side menu

• Home button in side menu

• EXIT button on rotary push selector

• EXIT button on steering wheel buttonsAlmost all applications can be exited bypressing the EXIT button, the Home iconor the Back icon.For the iGo application you need to pressthe Exit button this will move you to the topmenu where you can exit the application.

Static / dynamic order

You can choose static or dynamic order ofthe application in the launcher.Make the option from the side bar, MenubuttonStatic: applications has a permanentposition in the line of applications

Dynamic: applications changes orderaccording to latest used and do nothave a permanent positions in the line ofapplicationsPress on the menu button to get alternativefor static/dynamic view for the applications

Applications / Services that can showmoving pictures/video are disabledduring driving

Drivers distractionSome applications are categorized asdistraction to driver.As soon as the car exceeds a setspeed limit applications categorized asdistractions to driver are disabled.The titles in the application will be greyedout, and a "not accessible" watermark isshown.The icon will still react on press but theapplication will not work.

Connecting SCT to internetSensus Connected Touch must beconnected to internet for full functionality.This can be done via Wi-Fi, USB, 3G or4G USB modem.Instructions can be found in the SCT.Press the menu button in the home screento reach Help CenterPress Connect to internet.There are 3 choices.

• Using Modem

• Using Wi-Fi

• USB to PhoneSelect one of them and follow theinstructions.

For the most reliable internetconnection we recommend 3G/4G USBmodem.

When Wi-Fi tethering with an iPhone oriPad, you might need to switch internetsharing on and off on the device beforeit appears in the Sensus ConnectedTouch menu.

If Wi-Fi tethering with an iPhone or iPaddisconnects try to re-activate internetsharing on the device.Alternative instructions below

Connect via your smartphone’sWi-Fi connectionIn your phone, turn on Internet tethering.In Sensus Connected Touch, scroll toSettings Icon, and open it, chose Wireless& Network, and press Wi-Fi settings.

Tap Wi-Fi to turn it on (the box is tickedwhen Wi-Fi is on). When your phoneappears in the Wi-Fi network list, clickit. Enter the sharing code (viewable inthe phone display) by using the built inkeyboard that appears when the text fieldis tapped. When connected a connectionicon is shown in the upper right corner.Once a phone is paired to SensusConnected Touch, the password is storedin the system for automatic connectionwhen entering the car next time. Forthis to work you must enable InternetTethering/USB-tethering in the phone.Then your mobile phone or smartphonebecomes the modem and uses yournetwork’s 3G data service to connect tothe Internet.

Connect via 3G/4G USB broadbandinternet donglePlug in your 3G/4G dongle in the USBconnection on the module that is mountedin the glove compartment. A pop-upappears on the screen asking if you wantto use the 3G/4G dongle, click yes.Select your internet provider in the list.Enter your PIN, code. When connecteda connection icon is shown in the upperright corner.Once the dongle is connected and pairedwith Sensus Connected Touch, thepassword is stored in the system forautomatic connection next time the 3G or4G USB modem is used. All you need todo is press the OK button.

The PIN code is the only saved data.Settings for rooming, network settingand so on will not be saved.

If you remove the dongle you needto make a new connection when youconnect it to the SCT.The default settings from the 3G or 4GUSB modem will be loaded at start up.

To change the default settings on the 3Gor 4G USB modem you need to connect itto a computer.From the computer you can change thesettings from the supplied software in the3G or 4G USB modem. Save the newsettings on the 3G or 4G USB modem.Connect the modem to the SCT, thechanged settings will be default from start.

All 3G or 4G USB modems are notcompatible with Sensus ConnectedTouch, but most of the new 3G or 4GUSB modems are compatible.

Wi-Fi hot spot in carIf SCT is connected to internet througha 3G or 4G USB modem the sensusconnected touch can be set up as a Wi-FiHot spot in the car, that allows passengersin car to get devises connected to internet.This is easily set up in the settings menu.Wi-Fi hot spot means that you can connectyour Wi-Fi enabled device in the car usingthe cars equipment as a router. If youstart device and check if you have Wi-Fienabled, then the SSID shall be shownby your device.Choose the SSID thatcomplies with your SCT SSID. (pleasesee your devise’s manual how to do this).Instruktions can be found in the SCT.Press the menu button in the home screento reach Help Center.Press Share Internet Access. Follow theinstructions.Or follow the instructions below

The device setting shall be as follows– Obtain automatic IP address. Thismeans that you will get an addressfrom our DHCP server

– Obtain automatic DNS address. Thismeans that you will get an addressfrom our DHCP server

Now you should be able to see the SSIDon your device just connect to that andyou can now use the WiFi from the carsinternet 3G or 4G USB modem.

How to configure the SensusConnected touch Wi-Fi hotspot1 Go to the settings application2 Choose Wireless & Networks3 Choose Portable hotspot4 Check the box for Portable Wi-Fi

hotspot5 Choose Configure Wi-Fi hotspot6 Tap in the SSID: This is the name of

your Wi-Fi network. This is what youwill see on the other devices that youare going to connect

7 Tap to security and choose the levelof security that your other devicessupports. If you don’t know what tochoose then choose the WPA2

8 Tap to Password and fill in thepassword for this Wi-Fi network: This isthe password for the network that youwill be asked to fill in the devices thatyou connect to the car

9 Now tap on the back button and tapon the Portable Wi-Fi hotspot box. Allyour devices in the car will be able toconnect to the car now

10 Now tap on the back button until youare out from the setting menu.

ApplicationsSensus Connected Touch offerscustomers access to numerousapplications. Some applications areavailable in the SCT system from start.Some application need a sign up orsoftware download from Asteroid Marketto be able to use.When downloading new applications fromAsteroid Market, they will automaticallyturn up in the application folder in theLauncher. New applications can only bereachable from the application folder.It is not possible to remove applications.To hide applications in the Launcher:

• Select the Settings icon in the launcher

• Select Applications

• Select Hide applications in Launcher

A list of all available Applicationsper market can be found onwww.volvocars.com, select: salesand services and SCT.

Asteroid MarketAsteroid Market is a web portal with an appstore for new application and applicationsoftware updates, designed to work withSensus Connected Touch. It is accessiblefrom both the vehicle and a PC (WebPortal). From the vehicle the AsteroidMarket will be reached from the applicationMarket and for a link to the Web portal canbe found on www.volvocars.com, select:sales and services and SCT.To create an account and access theAsteroid Market web portal is free ofcharge and it allows you to download andupdate all the applications you want. Notethat some of the applications are free ofcharge, some have a free try out periodand requires a subscription fee after thetry out period ends. This fee is assignedat the Asteroid Market.

To add a new applications1 Open the Asteroid Market application2 Login to the market3 Choose a category or search for a

specific application4 Select the desired application5 Press the download button

6 The downloaded application is storedin the applications menu.

Update an application:Update your applications through theAsteroid Market. Update must be doneonline from the Sensus Connected Touch.Log in to Asteroid market and go to MyApplications to see if there are updatesavailable.

Internet BrowserWith Sensus Connected Touch it ispossible to browse the entire internet.The built in browser enables you tosearch for any information in almost anyformat. Java, HTML 5, animations andmoving pictures/films. The browser isfree of charge but you need an internetconnection. No signup is required.

Internet connection via a 3G / 4G keyrequires a subscription offer with aMobile Network Operator. Using thisservice can result in significant roamingcharges. Check the conditions of yoursubscription and consumption trackingwith your operator. Volvo disclaims anyliability for associated costs.

MapsMaps is a web mapping serviceapplication. It provides aerial or satelliteimages for most urban areas all over theworld. The information is based on Googlemaps. An Internet connection is required.To get the vehicle present location on themap press the blue circle in the top rightcorner.Maps provides a search and quick searchfunction.Open the search menu by pressing theMENU button in the side menu.Select "Search", enter an address or placeof interest and press "Go" , or select quickSearch and select an alternative.Maps also provides a route planner.Select the address shown on the mapand press on the blue locator or on thename. Press the selected address andthen select Maps.If the onboard navigation iGo is installed itcan be used to get driving directions. Startthe iGo application. Select the addressshown on map and press on the bluelocator or on the name. Press the selectedaddress and then select iGo.

Road tripRoad trip is an application combining thebeautiful photos of Panorama, touristinformation from Wikipedia and GoogleMaps. Road trip also alerts you of andfeeds you with information about Points ofinterests in your location.In Road trip you can set your favouritepoints of interest, (POI). And the areafrom the car that you want Road trip tosearch within. Road trip then uses yoursettings to find the POI’s along the routeand informs you when you are gettingclose to POI. E.g. you can set Road trip tofind castles along the way in an area of1000 meters from your vehicle.When Road trip finds a POI, it will alert youon the screen that POI is nearby. Chooseto get the Wikipedia information read outto you or export the coordinates to thePOI to the navigation system to navigateto the POI. The service is available in: Allmarkets.

Weather

General descriptionThe weather widget found on the homescreen, allows you to be updated on theweather, both on your present locationand on your favourite locations.Tap in the weather widget to open theweather application. In the application it ispossible to get more weather informationand make settings.

Location details and weather settings

Location details and weather settings areboth easily accessible. Tap on the tabsto change category.In Location details swipe left/right or tapmultiple times on the "my location" -tab tojump between the available locations.Tap in the bottom area of the screento switch between 24 hours or a 7 dayweather forecastIn weather settings it is possible to add orremove locations except for the currentlocation, it is always first.In weather settings you can changethe units for temperature and wind(Celsius/Fahrenheit Mph/Beafurt etc.Location details and weather settings are

both easily accessible places on the tabsjust beneath the area title. Tap on the tabsto change category.

To change locations, swipe left or right onthe location title. The indicator in lower lefthand corner, shows witch of your locationsis in view. The first in line is always currentlocation and marked with a GPS arrow

Tap anywhere in the bottom part of theview (below tabs), launches a 7 dayweather prognoses view. Tap again anda 24 hours weather prognoses view willshow.The present weather is displayed far tothe left in the 24 hours weather prognosesview. Each update shows Time, Highesttemperature & wind speed.

This example shows how the same viewwill look when time is shown in 12 hoursclock and the temperature unit is set toFahrenheit.

The 7 days ahead weather prognosesdisplays Max and Min temperature, dayand date.

Weather settings

To add a location, press the + icon orthe ADD LOCATION list item in the topof the SETTING tab. This launch thesearch location view and brings in thekeyboard. When you enter characters alist of suggestions appear. The charactersentered in the text field are marked ineach item in the result list.

To see the whole list, press either on the"go" button on the keyboard or tap on theresult list.

Remove location

To remove a location, press the - (minus)icon on the right hand side of the locationname. This icon rotates 90 degree anda delete button appear on the left handside of the location name. To delete thelocation press the delete button and theitem is removed from list. To cancel pressthe rotated minus icon on the right handside. Current location is not available insettings because it cannot be removed.

If you regret removing a location, pressthe - (minus) button again or use theBACK button in the side menu.

After removing an location the updated listshows immediately.

In weather settings it is possible to add,remove and change order of locations:

• Long-press on a location in the weathersettings list.

• The location will be detached and canbe moved up or down in the list.

Line InThe Line In application allows you to playmusic from a device connected to SensusConnected Touch AUX connector.When music is played via Line In, nocontent information is available either forwidget or now playing view.To play music via the line in applicationthe line in application has to be launched.

Music Player for external devicesWhen an external device is connected toSCT via Wi-Fi connection, USB input orSD card reader a new application will bevisible for this device in the launcher.To play music from the external device thenew application has to be launched. Forsome external devices the music has tobe started from the SCT but could afterthat be controlled either from the externaldevice or via the SCT via the home screenmusic player or in the new application.It is possible to see and use meta datasuch as song title, artist name, albumname, except when an Apple product isconnected with Wi-Fi.To be able to see the meta data from yourmedia files on the iPhone/iPod you mustconnect it with the USB cable.If you connect an Apple product with Wi-Fithen you will be able to listen to the mediabut not get any meta data from the Appleproduct.This means that the artist and song namewill not be shown.With DLNA Wi-Fi connection it is possibleto see all meta data such as song title,artist name, album name.

My car is already equipped withnavigation. Can I fit Sensus ConnectedTouch anyway?Yes, you can. The Sensus ConnectedTouch is available in two versions. Onewithout navigation and one with. Bothversions can be fitted in your car eventhough it is already equipped with anavigations system.I have the Sensus Connected Touchwithout navigation. Is it possible toupgrade it to get navigation?Yes, it is, and the upgrade process iseasy. The total navigation installation iscontained on an 8 GB SD-memory cardthat you simply exchange with the SD cardin the slot, found in the module in the glovecompartment. When the card is in placeaccess to internet for authentication andyou are done! When upgrade is completedsimply leave the SD card in the slot as themaps and other navigation data is storedon it. The 8GB SD-memory card willafter installation also function as a musicstorage and internet music streamingbuffering memory. SD-memory cardsfor Sensus Connected Touch Navigationupgrade will be sold by Volvo dealers onlyIs it possible to update the navigationroadmaps?

Yes, the roadmaps are updated viaa SD-card. The navigation systemis instantly upgraded once a newSD-memory card with map updates isentered.
