Reception Assembly
The whole school, staff and parents were treated to an assembly by RR and RP sharing their topic work on
Growing with us. What was amazing was the absolute confidence of them all to stand up and talk to a very
large audience about their work. The video that ran through the assembly was fantastic showing us
photographs of their outing to the garden centre, videos of their measuring the giant with various objects.
Their story telling of Jack and the Beanstalk was brilliant; the children had learnt it off by heart using all the
actions to re-tell the story. A song was sung too and ensured they had performed a whole range of activities!
My thanks as usual, go to all the EYFS staff and Mrs Turl, for their support of the children to ensure that they had
a fantastic time.
Here are some of our Reception parent comments:
‘Lovely assembly and beautiful artwork – the children should be very proud of themselves.’
‘Another wonderful assembly. The children were fantastic, the art work brilliant and their confidence was evident. Well done!’
‘Well done all of you. It was very enjoyable.’
‘It was really wonderful.’
The children said:
Assembly was good because everyone did good talking – Naomi
I was so proud of myself to say something on stage – Abdulrahman
I was good, my mum was at the front and she was happy – Kemari
I was proud because my mum was there – Salahuddin
I loved the assembly because my mum was there. She was proud - Wajiha
Welcome to new staff!
We give a warm welcome to Miss Amy Williams, who is our new Speech and Language Support Assistant. She will be working with a range of pupils within the Additional Resourced Provision and some key children across the school. She will work closely with the SENCo and the Speech and Language Therapist.
We also happily welcome Ms Selina Edwards who has taken over from Mrs Menawy as extra support in Years 1 and 2
We wish them both well as they settle into life at South Grove.
***************************************************************************************************************** arent Forum Group
We continue to develop our website and are planning a few new additional links and pages. I would like, at the next Parent Forum to design a Parent Page that would show prospective parents what our existing parents think
of the school, the educational and extended provision and generally about the life of the school. We have had some very positive quotes over time from parents and it would be good to share some of your thoughts and feedback. We can also explore other websites for ideas and develop our own to reflect South Grove. If anyone has ideas of what this may look like please join me on Thursday 23rd June at 9:00am for refreshments and lots of ideas!
E-Safety and Use of Social Media
We have had a couple of incidences involving children using ICT sessions inappropriately just before the half-term
break.
Parents do need to be aware that in order to safeguard the children we have a system to capture inappropriate use of ICT programs and my ICT Technician alerts me to these each week. Children have had to be spoken to about what is
acceptable and what is not, with parents being sent letters regarding this.
Also please can parents monitor their child’s mobile telephone if they have one. I am happy for them to bring their phones to school, particularly if they walk to and from school on their own
and leave them at the school office.
However, some of our children are using apps such as Instagram, Facebook and other social media sites, which are clearly meant for children aged at least 13 years old. It is parent’s
responsibility to monitor their child’s use, but very often when there is mis-use of such
programs, it is the school that invariably has to deal with upset children regarding inappropriate and unpleasant exchanges.
Can I urge parents to ensure that children are accessing and using appropriate programs for their age as this can lead
to children becoming very vulnerable. Please take the time to check what they are using their phone for and what they are accessing. Very often the children say ‘but my sister or brother knows.’
Unfortunately they do not have parental responsibility but parents do.
If you have any queries around this please do not hesitate to speak to myself, Ms Spain, Miss Marable (ICT Leader) or Ms Montgomery (Safeguarding Lead).
Thank you!
Gardening Club.
A huge thank you to Mr Kendrick who volunteered to come and
strim the Secret Garden for us. He spent an afternoon doing it
and it has really made a huge difference. The children are very
pleased with the Garden and we are now looking for flowers for
the area at the side. If you are a gardener and have a spare
plant to give us it would be much appreciated.

Maisie’s Letter from Battersea Dog’s Home As you will remember Maisie raised £183 through a bake sale in the KS2 Playground. This is the lovely letter and
certificate she received for all her efforts. Well done Maisie!

Jackson Kavanagh from AS creatives came to school on Saturday 28th May and delivered an excellent maths trail for lots of families from Years 1 and 2. This was part of the Count on Us project funded by the Mayor of London. The families undertook a variety of Maths
challenges and most of all everyone enjoyed doing Maths outside!
The children who took part also designed a question each for future Maths trails at South Grove so watch this space! Thanks to all those who came on the day and it was great to meet the parents!
The feedback was very positive: I really enjoyed it and it’s fantastic to add more knowledge between mother and child Lovely Saturday afternoon full of numbers and shapes. We loved it! Very interesting method to let the children like maths!

Queen Elizabeth’s 90th Birthday Picnic
Lunch this Friday 10th June
Come to school wearing red, white
and/or blue
Remember to book if you usually have
packed lunch and would like to change

Ramadan Fasting Arrangements
As we enter the month of Ramadan we know
that some of our older Muslim children in
Years 4-6 choose to keep some days of the
fast.
If someone is at home during the lunch
break these children must go home to
rest. We can only supervise in school if
you are working or at college and require
a note to that effect.
A letter was given out before half term -
please ask at the office if you require a
copy.
Holiday Dates Attached are next year’s school calendar dates which the Governors have agreed to. Ensure that you save these dates somewhere safe. We will also get them printed onto business cards for you to have handy in a wallet or purse.
Also can I remind parents that the children break up for the Summer holidays this year on Friday 15th July at 2.30pm. Please note that this is an earlier date than a lot of other schools and many do not break until the following week, so we expect to see the children in school until this day.
