• Career  Path:  Interviewed  on  campus  with  RR  Donnelley,  a  large  public  firm  with  a  training  program.  Became  Director  of  E-­‐Commerce  for  RR  Donnelley  and  Vice  President  of  E-­‐Commerce  for  Dean  &  DeLuca.  Then  became  President  of  MobileMetrics,  President  of  qbt  Systems  which  then  sold  to  Fiserv,  a  large  banking  technology  firm.    

• Job  Description:  Finivation  is  a  software  company  providing  mobile  and  web  application  development  and  systems  integration  for  community  financial  institutions  and  other  technology  providers.

• Career  Path:  While  in  school  I  changed  my  major  a  number  of  times  before  deciding  on  Mechanical  Engineering.    I  was  informed  about  this  position  through  a  friend  of  a  friend.    It  was  a  good  way  to  get  my  foot  in  the  door  and  gain  some  real  world  experience.  

• Job  Description:  My  current  position  involves  designing  the  operating  machinery  for  movable  bridges  and  retractable  roofs.  I  do  machinery  component  design  (math),  3D  and  2D  modeling,  on-­‐sight  inspection  and  reports.    Based  on  the  way  our  company  is  structured  my  work  varies  widely  depending  on  which  partner  or  associate  I  am  working  for.

Sarah  Castillo  ‘09  Senior  Financial  Associate  NYU  Medical  Center  Major:  Business  Administration  LinkedIn:  Yes  Advice:  “  Start  by  asking  the  people  around  you  whether  they  know  of  any  available  positions.    If  you  end  up  in  a  position  you  don't  want  to  be  in,  make  your  job  search  a  priority  after  work  or  whenever  you  have  time.    Hopping  around  jobs  during  my  unemployment  helped  me  gain  a  lot  of  experience;  so  don't  neglect  the  temporary  positions  you  may  find.  “  

• Career  Path:  Worked  seasonal  positions  with  Disney  and  the  Wildlife  Conservation  Society  (both  based  in  NYC)  before  being  introduced  to  the  manager  of  my  current  work  place  and  accepting  a  full  time  position.  

• Job  Description:  I  analyze  insurance  carrier  payments  to  ensure  the  accurate  and  timely  processing  of  claims  as  well  as  resolve  inconsistencies  between  our  contracts  and  systems  used.

• Job  Description:  Women’s  World  Banking  (WWB)  is  an  international  network  of  microfinance  institutions.  Based  in  NYC,  WWB  works  with  institutions  to  create  financial  products,  services  and  educational  opportunities  for  women  and  girls  that  will  economically  empower  them  to  create  better  futures  for  themselves,  their  families  and  communities.  My  role  is  to  raise  unrestricted  funding  from  individuals  and  foundations  to  support  our  program  team,  as  well  as  to  handle  all  logistics  for  our  big  fundraising  events.

• Career  Path:  I  was  initially  brought  on  as  a  QA  contractor,  but  was  given  a  series  of  opportunities  to  take  on  more  responsibility.    

• Job  Description:  LeadSpend  was  founded  in  2009  and  went  to  market  with  the  current  product  in  2011.  We  currently  have  5,  full-­‐time  employees.  Our  technology  determines  whether  an  email  address  is  deliverable  in  real-­‐time  and  without  sending  any  mail.    I  built  the  core  technology  and  manage  product.

• Career  Path:  I  started  in  health  insurance  sales  and  then  I  realized  there  were  better  opportunities  in  law.  I  started  my  own  firm  in  2010  and  have  been  with  my  current  firm  since  February  of  this  year.

   Jai-­‐Lee  Egna  ‘07  Photo  Agent  Glasshouse  Assignment  Major:  Studio  Art  LinkedIn:  Yes  Advice:  “Keep  in  mind  that  your  first  job  out  of  school  doesn't  necessarily  have  to  set  the  tone  for  the  rest  of  your  career.  Make  sure  you  learn  as  much  as  possible  and  always  enjoy  what  you  are  doing,  try  different  industries  until  you  find  one  you  are  passionate  about.”    

• Career  Path:  After  college,  I  worked  in  the  fashion  industry  for  three  years  in  graphic  design  and  product  development.    I  left  my  first  job  to  pursue  a  career  that  merged  my  interests  in  photography  and  business  and  began  working  at  Glasshouse  in  2010.  

• Job  Description:  I  am  the  lead  photo  agent  representing  seven  commercial  photographers.  I  am  responsible  for  marketing  and  promoting  the  photographers  as  well  as  negotiating  and  handling  all  advertising  and  editorial  jobs.  When  working  at  a  boutique  agency  there  is  room  for  innovative  practices  and  new  ideas.

• Job  Description:  I  am  the  publisher  and  editor  of  Past  Fashion  Future,  a  style  site  dedicated  to  classic  and  timeless  fashion.  Also  freelance  fashion  writer  for  TreeHugger.com  and  others.

• Job  Description:  Riverkeeper  is  a  member-­‐supported,  non-­‐profit  watchdog  organization  dedicated  to  defending  the  Hudson  River  and  the  drinking  water  of  nine  million  New  Yorkers.  Riverkeeper’s  environmental  attorneys  help  agencies  to  enforce  local,  state  and  federal  laws  that  protect  the  Hudson  River  and  NYC’s  drinking  watershed.  I  coordinate  our  outreach,  volunteer  and  internship  programs.      

     Jessica  Hernández  ‘93  Attorney  Development  Manager  Morrison  &  Foerster,  LLP  Major:  Russian  and  Eastern  European  Area  Studies  &  Economics  Graduate  Program:  George  Washington  Law  School  LinkedIn:  Yes  Advice:    “Always  be  curious  about  what  other  people  do  for  a  living.    You  never  know  what  you  might  find  interesting  and  be  able  to  incorporate  for  yourself  later.”

Advice:    “Be  open  to  opportunities  that  come  your  way,  even  if  you  don't  think  they  are  what  you  are  interested  in.  They  may  surprise  you.  Every  agency  has  a  website.  On  their  websites  are  job  postings.    Don't  limit  yourself  to  a  particular  agency.  You  will  find  that  many  agencies  have  areas  that  can  benefit  from  your  background.”  

• Career  Path:  Interned  at  Sanitation  during  the  summer  of  1982  (between  my  first  and  second  years  of  grad  school).  In  1983  was  hired  by  Sanitation  and  worked  on  the  operational  implementation  of  recycling  in  NYC.  In  1988  was  hired  by  Transportation  to  analyze  the  fleet  needs  for  the  agency.    Slowly  worked  my  way  up  in  a  number  of  positions  prior  to  being  selected  as  Deputy  Commissioner  for  Sidewalk  &  Inspection  Management.    

• Job  Description:  As  NYC  Department  of  Transportation,  Deputy  Commissioner,  Sidewalk  &  Inspection  Management,  I  oversee  inspection  and  repair  of  12,750  miles  of  sidewalks,  monitor  activities  of  contractors  working  in  the  sidewalks  and  streets,  repair  and  construct  curbs,  medians,  pedestrian  ramps  and  traffic  islands,  and  respond  to  emergency  incidents.  My  division  is  actively  involved  in  providing  additional  space  for  pedestrians  and  alternative  modes  of  transportation  by  constructing  protected  bike  lanes,  refuge  islands  and  plazas.
