Course Description:

This course, intended for oversea students in Liaoning Medical University, is used to introduce comprehensive Chinese grammars, speaking Chinese and useful daily expressions and to solve the confusing points in grammar, to increase the vocabulary and help the students communicate with others. so as to prepare the students for HSK test (Chinese Proficiency Test). At the same time, the students will do many forms of practice to strengthen the Chinese skills in grammar, spoken and listening. We have varied forms of teaching methods: lecture with power point presentations, use of VCD / DVD for visual material, and the student-centered method, such as interactive group work; use of case studies; role plays and discussion groups and so on.

Course Description:

24 style Taijiquan also called simplified Taijiquan. In 1956, the original National Physical Culture Commission on martial arts decided their objectives were compatible with Yang style Taijiquan . Although it is only 24, but compared with the traditional taiji routines, its content is more refined, action more specification, and also can fully reflect the movement characteristics of taijiquan.

Course Description:

This course is a technology that deals with the computer system and its applications. It is a practical course whose purpose is to give students a whole understanding of computer systems. The first part of this course describes the operating systems. It introduces the concepts and the usage of the popular operating system and Microsoft Windows. Then the second part of the course mainly introduces Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint. Through learning these tools, the students can master the skills of editing documents, calculating data with excel tables and creating presentations. The third part of this course is knowledge of the principles of computer systems. It explains the hardware system, the software system and the data format which computers use. The last part is about networks, which covers Internet and LAN technology. Basic Computer Applications serves as a foundation of other computer skills. One semester course classroom time includes lectures and practices.

Course Description:

Today, China is playing an increasing role in the international affairs economically, politically and culturally and has attracted more and more attention worldwide. However, quite a few foreign people do not know China and the Chinese well enough to deal with their living environment in China and fully understand Chinese society, as well as Chinese people.

Our lectures will introduce some necessary, basic and important information to oversea students. These lectures will help oversea students to understand China and the Chinese well and will promote exchange and friendship between Chinese and people from various countries. Course Description:

This course is a science that deals with chemistry in regard to medicine. It is a necessary prelude to the study of later courses such as organic chemistry, biochemistry,molecular biology and so on. The main part of this work describes the chemical properties of body fluids. There are four main kinds of properties: common properties of dilute solutions, solutions of electrolytes, buffer solutions and acid–base titration. A thorough knowledge of Basic Chemistry is fundamental for medical students to study later courses very well. One semester course includes lectures, and practices.

Course Description:

Organic chemistry is an important fundamental course for the medical students. It is the study of the compounds of carbon, namely organic compounds. It mainly includes the classification, structure, nomenclature, and physical properties as well as chemical properties of organic compounds. We know that organic compounds are the essential material of which all living things on this planet are made. The research object of medicine is the life process of the human body, which is constituted of living materials. The overwhelming majority of living materials are organic compounds such as saccharides, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids and so on. The metabolic process in humans is a series of organic chemical reactions. The knowledge of organic chemistry is prerequisite to understand clearly these reactions in living organisms at the molecular level.

Course Description:

Calculus is an important required course in teaching programmes of every speciality in the Medical University; it is a significant tool for studying modern medicine.

This is a calculus course directed at the junior year students of life sciences. Topics range through differential and integral calculus of one variable to introductory differential equation. Background knowledge required by students is some high school algebra.

As calculus continues to contribute to the overwhelming development of physical sciences, chemical sciences, social sciences and life sciences, it becomes more and more important to study and understand this subject, which is a language, a tool and a logical discipline all in one.

The first chapter deals with functions and their graphs, as well as the ideas of limit and continuity. Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 introduce and discuss differential calculus and applications of it. These chapters include the concept of the derivative of functions, the calculation of derivatives, mean-value theorem, monotonicity and extreme-value problems. Chapter 4 introduces the exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric functions. Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 introduce the indefinite integral, definite integral and applications of each, these two chapters are concerned with the fundamental theorem of calculus, area and volume.

Studying this course, the students will obtain the basic knowledge of calculus in a systematic way and lay a necessary mathematical foundation for learning other course and doing medical research. While teaching the mathematics knowledge, we shall develop the students’ ability for logical thinking and operation.

Lastly, we wish to say that you will not need to be a mathematical expert at calculus to work in your field. You will, however, need a basic understanding of calculus.

Course Description:

Physics is to study how nature behaves—from the largest things to the smallest ones. In simple terms, physics is to study matter, energy, space and time. Physics is the most basic physical science because its principles form the foundation of all the other branches of science, including medical and biological science.

This course is divided into two parts. The first part is about theoretical teaching. The second part concerns the physical experiments. In the theoretical teaching part, students will learn the kinematics of particles, the kinetics of particles, the rotation of rigid bodies, oscillations and waves, fluids, thermodynamics, electrostatics, direct current circuit, magnetic field, electromagnetic induction and electromagnetic waves, geometric optics, the wave properties of light, quantum physics. In the second part, students will complete several physical experiments so as to raise their ability for experimental technology.

College physics is a very important basic course. After studying the college physics, students should master the basic laws of physics and understand their practical applications, especially in medical and biological fields. Therefore, they will lay a solid foundation for the following courses.

Course Description:

Cell biology is a subjuct that focuses on studying the mechanisms and principles of the life and activities of cells. It employs the methods of modern physics, chemistry, and experimental biology at the whole cell, subcellular and molecular levels. In the 21st century, in which life science and medicine are developing very rapidly, cell biology is a compulsory course for medical students, because it is not only a pioneering subject in life science but also an important basic course for clinical medicine. The course puts emphasis on the instruction of essential theory, elementary knowledge and fundamental skill. The contents of this course include introduction, cell chemistry, cell membrane, cell junctions, endomembrane system, mitochondria and peroxisomes, cytoskeleton, nuclei, cell heredity, cell proliferation, cell differentiation, cell aging and death, and studying methods of cell biology. This knowledge will provide a solid foundation for studying other basic and clinical courses, such as histology, human anatomy, human physiology, biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology and so on. This course consists of theory class and practical class.

This course is a science that deals with the microstructure of the human body and its relationship with the body’s microstructure and functions. It is the meeting-place of anatomy, biochemistry and physiology. An understanding of normal microscopic structures is a necessary prelude to the study of pathology. Histology serves as a bridge between basic medicine and clinical medicine. The first part of this course describes the four primary tissues and the second part covers the microstructures of organ systems. There are four main kinds of tissue: epithelial tissue, connective tissue, muscular tissue and nervous tissue. There are eight major systems in the body: nervous system, circulatory system, immune system, respiratory system, digestive system, urinary system, reproductive system and endocrine system. Thus the human body may be examined at four structural levels: as cells, tissues, organs and systems. Course Description:

Pathology is one of the basic medical courses which coveres the etiology, pathogenesis, pathologic changes, results and prognosis of disease. Based on the morphological changes of the tissue alterations and functional and metabolic abnormalities, pathology illustrates the basic concepts related to the occurrence, development and nature of diseases and point out their natures.

The content of Pathology is divided into two parts: General Pathology and Systemic Pathology. General Pathology mainly introduces the common and basic pathologic processes and Systemic Pathology mainly involves the pathologic changes and processes of diseases in different systems. The course focuses on the most common diseases and at the same time involves medical advances.

To improve the capability of the students, methods and theory has been combined with practice over recent years. In the course of teaching, various teaching methods are used to motivate student interest in pathology, including lectures, experiments and CPC (Clinical Pathologic Conference), which effectively improve the understanding of the content learned in lectures. The course mainly deals with the phenomena that are exhibited by living organisms, systems, organs, tissues or cells. Under the normal conditions, it analyses the mechanisms, the processes of regulations and the relationship between the organs or the systems. Though the knowledge of physiology gathered from scientific research and the practice of clinical medicine, it provides basic principles for medical practices. As a bridge between basic medicine and clinical medicine, Pathophysiology is a discipline that studies the nature of the occurrence, mechanism and development of diseases focusing on studying the progressive changes of function and metabolism of the body with certain diseases. The course provides the theories related to prevention and treatment of diseases. Pathophysiology teaching is comprised of three parts: summary of disease, basic pathological process, and pathophysiology of various systems. (1) In the summary of disease, we mainly discuss the definition of diseases, the general principles of occurrence and development of diseases such as the causes and condition of diseases, disorders of the regulation of homeostasis in diseases, and results of diseases etc. (2) Basic pathological process refers to the general changes occurring in various organs and systems related to different diseases, such as disorders of water and electrolytes, disturbance of acid-base balance, hypoxia, fever, inflammation, disseminated intravascular clotting, and shock. Immunology is the study of the tissues and physiological function of the immune system. Course Description:

Introduction of Medicine briefly describes the development of medicine from antiquity to the present and explores the general rule of medical science development by insight into the relationship among natural science, society, culture, politics, economy and philosophy. It leads students toward an understanding of the historical and the present status of medicine, the role of doctors and patients, medical education and medical study, health service system. This course is an interdisciplinary program and will help students project a positive professional attitude and promote the role of conversion from a medical student to a real doctor.

Course Description:

Laboratory diagnostics is a starting point in discovering illness, finding its treatment, and monitoring and curing a sick person. Course Description:

Nuclear medicine deals with the application of radio-isotopes and their related emitting rays in clinical medicine for diagnosis or therapy of diseases as well as research purposes. Using isotope or isotope labeled substance as tracer or pharmaceuticals. Clinical nuclear medicine is a unique and growing medical specialty that contributes most significantly to our understanding of the functional changes which accompany disease. It remains true to the very essence of functional imaging which characterizes the field of nuclear medicine and distinguishes it from the more morphologically based radiological imaging procedures. Both the diagnostic and the therapeutic aspects of nuclear medicine rely for their efficacy on the physiological changes produced by disease. Today nuclear medicine is one of the medical specialties with great opportunities for innovation and creative thinking. It will be most profitably used when both researchers and practicing physicians have taken the time to understand the pathophysiology basis of scintigraphy and radio-nuclide therapy.

Course Description:

This course offers a 2-semester learning program in internal medicine. The program is designed to provide practical and didactic education in the broad field of internal medicine. All of the major internal medicine subspecialties are taught by qualitied faculty. Each student has an opportunity to become proficient in all procedures common to the internist. On the basis of handling the basic medical knowledge, the major task is to know how to diagnose, make differential diagnosis and treat the common internal medicine diseases. This subject also focuses on the adult patient population by concentrating on in-depth evaluation and ongoing treatment of patients with complex problems and / or chronic illness. We will cultivate and foster the professional development of students to become doctors responsive to the needs of the community as well as the individual patient.

Respiratory System

Respiratory system is one of the most important parts of internal medicine. This part includes 20 teaching hrs for lectures and 6 hrs for practice. This part can provide a solid understanding and knowledge of the structure and function of the respiratory system, provide an understanding of the mechanisms of common respiratory disease and their treatment, enable students to become aware of the public health issues e.g. cigarette smoking, environmental pollution, primary health care, disease prevention related to the respiratory system and foster the professional development of students to become doctors responsive to the needs of the community as well as the individual patient.

Circulatory System

Circulation system is an important branch of internal medicine, which is concerning the structure and functional disorder in heart and vessels. This course includes cardiomyopathy, hypertension, coronary artery disease, myocarditis, heart failure, arrhythmia, pericardial disease, endocarditis and valvular heart disease. Among them, coronary artery disease, arrhythmia and heart failure make progress most rapidly. Through the study, the students should: 1.master the diagnosis and medication for hypertension; diagnosis, therapeutic principle and complication of angina pectoris and myocardial infarction; diagnosis and medication for heart failure; electrocardiogram and therapeutic principle of arrhythmic emergency. 2.understand the manifestation of cardiomyopathy, pericardial disease, valvular heart disease, some kind of arrhythmia, and some new progresses in coronary artery disease, arrhythmia therapy, for example interventional therapy.

Endocrinology

Endocrinology is an important system of Internal Medicine. The aims of Endocrinology are to learn the principles and methods for the diagnosis and management of diseases, such as hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, diabetes mellitus, primary chronic hypercortisonism and hypocortisonism. In lecture hours students learn diagnosis and management of common endocrinology diseases such as hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, diabetes mellitus, primary chronic hypercortisonism and hypocortisonism. During practice hours students learn the following clinical skills: collecting history of endocrinology, taking physical examination and writing the history. Students also learn to handle the following endocrine diseases, such as hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, diabetes mellitus, primary chronic hypercortisonism and hypocortisonism.

Nephrology

Nephrology is part of internal medicine and clinical basic course. Because of the close correlation between the nephrology and other internal medicine, the students should not only grasp the basic theory prior to learning the general etiology and pathogenesis of the urologic system, but also know the presentation, the laboratory findings, diagnosis and differentiation and treatment in order to be an intern. The course mainly consist of the diagnosis and therapy of the common diseases, including primary glomerular diseases, secondary glomerular diseases, urinary tract infection (UTI), acute renal failure (ARF), chronic reanal failure and dialysis therapy.
