Speech By Mr. Motoi Oyama, WFSGI President

w o u l d b e m o r e p o w e r f u l a n d aggressive, and I strongly expect that it would bring about substantial result to Manufactures and also sports industry in the world.

I will devote myself to ensuring further development of the sports industry in 2012, too.

To facilitate the further growth of the sports industry around the world, it is necessary to promote lively discussions among WFSGI members to resolve common problems shared by them.

I wish to remind us all that business is built on trust between people and to consider the fulfi l lment of the communication function stated in WFSGI’s basic philosophy to be one of our important tasks.

Th e W F S G I t h e re fo re i n te n d s to strengthen its function to promote communication between brand and manufacturers, by organizing the Manufacturers Committee.

I would like to solicit your further cooperation in promoting spor ts industries around the world.

Thank you very much.

First of all, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to everyone here who have dedicated their efforts over the past year toward addressing and resolving the issues confronting us.

The sporting goods industry of today, like in other industries, has accelerated global efforts in both markets and production areas. To offer products that satisfy consumer needs, it will be more important to enhance Asian-based manufacturers’ capabilities for manufacturing and product development.

From this perspective, we will play a leadership role and continuously hold the WFSGI Manufacturers committee, as an event for sharing information and views between leading brand and manufacturers, and to provide both of them with an opportunity to deepen their knowledge of their environment. We would aim at creating a positive synergy between brand and manufactures by being the venue for the manufacturing community to raise issues and show concern. We would also understand the constantly changing generic requirements of the brands and circulate those to the members of the Committee. As repeated, we would be a bridge between brand and manufactures to have ideas flow in both directions. I believe that the sporting goods industry cannot achieve development without cooperation between leading brand and manufacturers. In this respect, I ask your understanding and cooperation.

Thanks to all the effort of Manufacturers Forum from the past, we have made big improvement in communication between brand and manufactures especially in Asian zone. This time, Mr. George Wood was appointed as our new leader, which means activities of Manufactures Committee

The Future of the European Home Fitness Industry - Unity is Strength Outline: With an aging population, the growing obesity epidemic and a propensity to stay at home, the outlook for the home fitness industry should be extremely positive. However, the future is being threatened by the sedantary lifestyle of a younger generation and the growing influence of ‘electronic entertainment’ at home, putting into question the validity of traditional home fitness products. The Sporting Goods Market in Europe 2020 - Big Players- Big Trends

One European Union -520 Million inhabitants -27 different countries -27 different markets One Euro-Zone -17 different countries -17 different retail structures -17 different retail prices One Euro-Megatrend -Sports for all Ages - Outdoor Activities ,Health and Sports for the growing consumer segment :Silver Citziens, this means the Generation 45 +  Part one: Presentation on the size of the markets and the large retail players especially Intersport International Sport 2000 International and Decathlon SA.  Part two: Which Sports for tomorrow? Who will be active in what sports in the future?  In the future there will be more elderly than your people in Europe. This is a result of the lower birthrate - Because the over aging of the population in Europe and the upcoming trends in the younger generation sit in front of the computer and to be a coach potato there will be sports growing which can be done by all generations. Hiking, walking, jogging, marathon, cycling, inline skating, swimming, cross country skiing. Especially for the elder generation: health and fitness oriented sports offers like cardiovascular training and fitness training for backs. More and more women are active in sports because they are the bigger part of the European population and had a higher life expectation.  It will be feminism in sport: for example Flag football a variety of American football without body contact or Tae Bo Boxing for fitness, Yoga, Pilates, and Golf.

The Application of Sports Science in Sporting Goods Innovation

Tzyy-Yuang Shiang, Ph.D.Distinguished ProfessorInstitute of Exercise & Sports ScienceNational Taiwan Normal UniversityVice Chair of Taiwan Sports Technology Association

Excellent manufacturing process had been the core competitiveness of Taiwan’s traditional industries. In recent years, companies spent more time on product design; however, most of manufacturer is still lack of innovation design. Taiwan sporting goods industry is also a traditional industry and keeps the traditional approach to run the company. Only a few manufacturers with larger scale are equipped with regular research and development team. Right now the R&D direction still remains consumer-oriented, low-pricing, appealing-design. The new trend of sporting goods design should focus on function, new functional concept will bring a brand new direction of sporting goods. In order to develop new functional sporting goods, we have to thoroughly understand the basic principles of sport science and apply it to develop new training mode and new functional sport equipment. Only new functional equipment can make a new wave of sport activity to help sporting goods industry developing in the future.
