Letter via the Editor My 17 year old child who had a baby last year doesn`t want to go back to school. The reason she says is that the teachers and the learners are always going to remind her of giving birth. Can somebody explain to me if this is healthy. Confused Parent We really hope that we as human beings have gotten past the time of judging others. When your daughter returns to school to complete her education, after facing the challenge and responsibility of being a young mother , she should be applauded and respected for this mature decision which will be good for herself and her young child’s future. Letter via the Editor I would like to express my shock and dismay when I read the news that our library was to be relocated. The present position of our library, is so convenient for all us elderly people of Plett. It is easily accessible, secure, very pleasant atmosphere. Why cannot another Library be built to serve the community in New Horizon? Libraries are so important foe communities. We can never have to many! The building could be financed by cutting down on the number of parties, held at the expense of Ratepayers. They are not that important, certainly not important as a quiet library where the community can enjoy the facilities and where people can be encourage to read. Interesting SA Stuff... President Jacob Zuma is to host his Ugandan counterpart, President Yoweri Museveni, in a state visit scheduled for Friday. The visit is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen relations that exist between the two countries, said the Department of International Relation and Cooperation. The two Presidents are expected to review progress on key areas of bilateral cooperation, which, among others, include agriculture, trade and investment, public works and infrastructural development, water and environmental affairs, energy, and social development. “Views will also be exchanged on issues affecting the continent and the world, including political developments pertaining to the East Africa region, inter alia the Sudan Referendum, as well as global multilateral matters,” the department said. South Africa regards Uganda as a country with great economic potential and an important partner for its trade and investment. Also, in view of the country’s solid economic performance, Uganda can be regarded as an important trading partner in East Africa. In 2009, South African exports to Uganda amounted to R1.2 billion and imports from Uganda to R155 million. South Africa remains among the top five sources of Foreign Direct Investment in Uganda. to Him through our thoughts in our minds, He certainly can and He does, but there is something very significant when we speak aloud. When we audibly address God we stress the truth of our words by hearing them through our own ears and it reinforces in our own hearts whatever we wish God to hear. Scripture itself often links faith to audible confession, such as: "Because if you confess the Lord Jesus with your mouth and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." [Rom.10:9] Furthermore when you address God audibly it also means that the devil, - our enemy, who cannot read our thoughts - will also be able to hear these words and, if spoken in faith, will tremble and flee. Secondly, David says: "I will set myself for You in the morning..." The literal meaning of this is to "arrange oneself before" God - to open up to God completely, not holding back anything, and to do this in humility and being vulnerable. This is the opposite of approaching the Lord in arrogance and pride. The story of the tax collector and the Pharisee who both went up to the temple to pray, as told in Luke 18:10-13 is a good example of this. Finally David ends the verse by stating: "and I will look up." This clearly reflects an attitude of expectation. Here we find a man who was probably one of the richest in his time coming before God in total dependence and expectation. He was prepared to "look up" to God, not at his own assets, nor at what the world could offer him and not at the circumstances and situations that often brought grief and anguish in his life, but at God. It has been said that in prayer we are occupied with our needs; in praise we are occupied with our blessings; in worship we are occupied with God. A Thought for the Week. Psalm 5:3 [LITV] "You will hear my voice in the morning, O Jehovah; I will set myself for You in the morning and I will look up." Reading the Psalms, many of which were written by King David, one gets the clear impression that David would start each new day with first coming before the Lord. In the verse quoted above there are a few things of significance that I would like to high-light and that could be an example for us in our "quiet time". First of all the expression "You will hear my voice..." this carries the connotation that David was not just speaking to God in his heart, but that he uttered his words aloud. It is not that God cannot hear when we speak

2011 Schooling Days have started. It is that time of the year whereby students will have new challenges as they will be moving to higher stages or grades, some will start tertiary levels in new environment. It will be a challenge as they will have to adapt to the areas or cities of their chosen institutions as well as making new friends. In these institutions you meet students from different backgrounds with different behaviors and it is always easy for those from rural areas to be influenced by those from the cities and end up following their bad behaviors such as drinking alcohol, smoking and dating which also sometimes has consequences of dropout or failure. Although students learn to be disciplined and responsible while staying away from the parents, some of the matriculates end up being victims of the high life as entertainers, drugs dealers, night club owners, even sugar dads ( old people who date young girls) targeting students. It is very important for first year students to be wise when they choose friends and people whom they will associate themselves with, as they are not going to these cities for fun but to acquire skills and qualifications to have a better future, it does not come cheap as their parents will pay monthly rent for accommodation and institution fees. Good News South Africans have saved 1 800 megawatts worth of electricity through energy efficient lighting, says power parastatal Eskom. According to the parastatal, 43.5 million compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) were rolled out in the country as part of Eskom’s National Efficient Lighting Programme between 2004 and 2010. Through this, South Africans have helped save enough electricity to power a city the size of Dur-ban. Eskom’s Senior General Manager of Integrated Demand Management, Andrew Etzinger, said the success of the programme is attributable to the millions of energy-conscious and environmentally-concerned South Africans. The 43.5 million CFLs is the highest number to be rolled out in the world in one country through a single campaign. Mexico is planning to roll out 30 million CFLs, which will place them second to South Africa. Eskom, however, emphasised the gap between the supply and demand of electricity will remain tight until the first unit of the Medupi power plant starts generating electricity in 2012. The power station is located in Limpopo. The parastatal urges the public to continue saving electricity. The programme was launched to encourage people to switch from incandescent bulbs to energy efficient CFLs (which are miniature versions of full-sized tubular fluorescents and are extremely energy efficient), in line with global trends. CFLs use up to 80 percent less electricity than a traditional incandescent light bulb, while providing the same amount of light. These light bulbs were distributed for free to consumers across the country in ex-change for incandescent bulbs. The environment friendly light bulbs, which used to cost between R60 and R80 per bulb, have now come down in price, coming in at R15 per light bulb on average. Over the past six years, we seem to have overcome all of the barriers that once discouraged the widespread use of CFLs. Now that they are more affordable, easily accessible and can be used in almost any setting that we’d use a normal light bulb, the adoption of CFLs is really starting to gather momentum in this country, as it is else-where in the world,” said Etzinger. – BuaNews 17 January 2011

Snippets for the week The new year has motivated us all to continue with our Sterilization Project. We have been receiving wonderful donations for our Charity Shop, sales have been excellent and Dr Bert van Reenen and Dr Jannie Naude have been most generous with donating their time and efforts! Thank you to everyone who helps towards this project. We are at present spaying in Qolweni - managing an average of 3 - 5 dogs daily. I find it to be a major challenge working in this area, as there are no roads really, the shacks are so close together, dogs everywhere and difficult to find their owners. Fortunately, I have a resident who helps with the language, the loading and offloading, the bookings, as well as the welfare of the animals. Without Fumele, we would not be able to complete our work in this area. Someone reported having seen a burnt dog again in Kwano on Friday. I went to collect him on Saturday morning. I couldn't believe the state of the most beautiful little Basset. He had had a pot of boiling water thrown over him - apparently the other 3 dogs he shared a home with, caused problems in the street with passers-by. I have named him George for now and we

May I suggest that Mr. Wright takes up on the offer made by Mr. Nqoqo and approach the municipality in order to obtain factual information and stop spreading this fallacy ahead of the upcoming Local Government elections.
