What’s Your Take, Township?Residents will gather for a great meal at the Community Breakfast on Sun May 3. What is your favorite breakfast food?

• PAT THIERINGER of the Communitiy

Activities Office said she enjoys “anything

my husband cooks for Sunday

breakfast.” Her daughter, HELEN,

loves her dad’s “famous chocolate

chip pancakes.”

• Typically too busy to eat a good meal in the morning, Business Improvement District Director

KATE BURNS reported that she “always makes time for the

annual Community Breakfast.”

• It takes more than donuts and coffee to satisfy police officer KIRK EARNEY at breakfast time. Officer Earney prefers “a stack of pancakes.”

What’s Your Take, Collingswood? You may find just what you’re looking for at

the Town-wide Yard Sale on Sat May 2. What is the best thing you ever

purchased second-hand?

• Avid Collingswood shoppers ANDREA and SCOTT STILL appreciate the charm of pre-owned items. Andrea’s best find is a recently purchased “old-school radio cabinet and record player.” Scott reported that their home, built in 1861, has slanted floors “it’s like a fun house.”

• Harvard Avenue resident KIM BROOKS answered our question with a question, “What don’t I buy second hand?” Her favorite purchase was her baby jogger which she uses to shuttle her two-year-old FINN and three-year-old ZOE around town.

• Maple Avenue’s AGNIESZKA KOZLOWSKA believes using

second-hand items is “the best way to recycle ... and it’s very

European.” She loves her “very old pan ... it’s great for making

pancakes.” Agnieszka is pictured with her son, ERIC KOZLOWSKI-

Q: “What are porcelain veneers and why are they used?”

A: Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin shells of ceramic material which are bonded to the front of the teeth. This procedure can be an ideal choice for improving the appearance of the front teeth by masking discolorations, whitening teeth and/or reshaping a smile.

Q: “What causes gum disease?”

A: Gum (periodontal) disease is caused by bacteria. These bacteria, if left along the gumline, will irritate the gums and cause an inflammation reaction. The gums then begin to bleed and swell allowing the bacteria to go deeper under the gumline. If the inflammation is allowed to continue, the bone will begin to demineralize and dissolve. As the bone dissolves around the teeth, the teeth become unsupported and will fall out. Unfortunately, pain does not occur until the final stages of the disease and treatment at that time has very little chance of being successful. If your gums bleed regularly, seek treatment as soon as possible.

green scene With a bike share, farmers’ market, composting initiatives, and tree plantings, Collingswood appears to have set the perfect stage for a green festival. Bringing together the work and ideas of local businesses, residents, and offi cials, the Borough will hold its inaugural Green Festival on Sat Apr 25 from 10am to 2pm along Irvin Ave. The event will showcase environmental products, services, programs, and more. Visitors will be treated to an up-close look at hybrid cars, and information about planting trees, composting, gardening, energy and water conservation, green architecture, solar power, and recycling. Little environmentalists will love the kids’ area where they can play and learn. Investigate Collingswood’s bike share program and even get a free bike tune up from a volunteer mechanic. Become acquainted with local businesses that sell sustainable and eco-friendly products. The Shade Tree Board will be on hand selling discounted trees for home planting. Giveaways, prizes, food, and music will create an atmosphere of green celebration! Enjoy the earth-friendly rock and folk group, Mamapalooza, and pick up some reusable grocery bags. Bring old ink cartridges and cell phones to recycle and help raise funds for Collingswood grade schools. Composting and rain-barrel seminars will also take place during the festival. It takes only minutes to learn the basics of using a composter or rain barrel. Got trash? The Green Festival is being held on the same day as the Camden County Hazardous Waste Collection event at the Public Works garage at 713 Atlantic Ave N. Green-minded residents are invited to drop off hazardous waste between 8:30am and 3pm prior to checking out the Festival! Call the Division of Environmental Affairs at 858-5241 for dumping details. Calling crafters The Cerebral Palsy Adult Center allows adults with moderate to severe disabilities a chance to work making items such as soap and jewelry. The Center plans to use its parking lot (431 Park Drive S) for a craft fair the first Saturday of the month from May thru October. Rain date: second Saturday of the month. The organization is seeking crafters and artisans interested in participating. Fairs will run from 8am to 2:30pm. Vendors need to bring their own tables; ample space will be provided. One space costs $35 per day. Crafters must display hand crafted items (no flea market items). As a community service, the Center has started a Camden County craft show calendar at camdencountycraftshows.com.To participate in the fairs, visit cerebralpalsyadultcenter.comor call 858-4984.
