Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. Founded by William the Conqueror at the end of the 11th century, it has since been the home of 39 monarchs. Throughout its history, the Castle has been redecorated, enlarged and rebuilt, most notably by Edward III, Charles II and George IV. Windsor Castle is regularly used for ceremonial and State occasions, and The Queen also continues to spend most of her private weekends here.

The State Apartments

The State Apartments are furnished with some of the finest treasures from the Royal Collection, many of which are still in the settings for which they were first collected or commissioned. Masterpieces by Rubens, Holbein and Van Dyck hang alongside ornate English and French furniture.

St George’s Chapel

Set within the Castle Precincts, St George’s Chapel is one of the most beautiful ecclesiastical buildings in England. Ten monarchs are buried here, including Henry VIII and Charles I.
