Thái Nguyên là khu vực có nhiều mỏ khoáng sản đang khai thác, cáckhu công nghiệp đồng thời cũng là vùng sản xuất chè đặc sản. Đất, nước sản xuất nông nghiệp ở khu vực khai thác khoáng sản, công nghiệp thường bị ô nhiễm trong đó có kim loại nặng. Chè có thể bị nhiễm một số kim loại nặng từ đất, nước, và không khí. Vì vậy, cần phải quan tâm nghiên cứu và kiểm tra khống chế các chất có hại, đặc biệt là các kim loại nặng ảnh hưởng trực tiếp đến sức khoẻ con người.
