கி.பி 1249 ம் ஆண்வைடச் வசர்ந்த நக்கி:ளி என்று கர்நாடக மாநிலத்தில் :ாஸன் மாகாணத்தில் இருக்கும் ஊரிலுள்ள ஸ்ரீலக்ஷ்மிநரஸிம்:-ஸ்�ாமி வகாயிலில் காணப்படும் கருடன்சிவைல, ஓடும்பா�வைனயில் இரண்டு இறக்வைககவைளயும் �ிரித்து இரு கரங்கவைளயும் அஞ்சலி கெசய்�து வபான்ற வகாலத்தில், இரு புறமும் வத�ிமார்களுடன் காணப்படுகிறார்.
நாமக்கல்லில் உள்ள நரஸிம்:ர் வகாயில் அர்த மண்டபத்தில், �ாமன மூர்த்திக்கு, பலிசக்ர�ர்த்தி மூன்றடி நிலம் ��ங்க தாவைர�ார்பவைத அசுர-குல குரு சுக்ராச்சார்யார்
தடுப்பது வபான்றும், அ�வைர கருடன் தண்டிப்பது வபான்ற ஓர் அரிய காட்சியும் காணப்படுகின்றது.
பாஞ்சராத்ரித்தில் ஈஸ்�ர சம்:ிவைதயில், கருடன் எம்கெபருமானின் வ்யூகமூர்த்திகளில் ஒரு�ரான சங்கர்ஷணனின் அம்ஸம் என்று கூறப்-பட்டு இருக்கிறது. கவ� இ�வைர நாம் �ணங்கினால் நமக்கு பலமும், ஞானமும் ஏற்படும்.
ஸ்ரீரங்கத்திலுள்ள, கருடன் சுண்ணாம்புக்கலவை�யால் கெசய்யப்பட்ட�ர். இ�ர் 5 அடி உயரமுள்ள பீடத்தில் 14’6” உயரம் கெகாண்ட�ர். இ�ர் �லது காவைலத் தவைரயில் ஊன்றி, முட்டிவைய மடித்தபடியும், இடது கால் முட்டி தவைரயில் ஊன்றிய நிவைலயில் இருகரங்கவைளக் கூப்பிய �ண்ணம் எம்கெபருமான் சந்நிதிக்கு வநராக அமர்ந்து இரண்டு சிறகுகவைளயும் �ிரித்து, பாம்புகவைள ஆபரணங்களாக �ிளங்க கம்பீரமாக அருள்பாலிக்கின்றார்.
திரு நவைறயூரில் காணப்படும் கல் கருடன், சாளக்ராம கற்களால் ஆன�ர். இ�வைர வமாதக-வமாத கருடன் என்று அவை�ப்பர் இ�ருக்கு தினமும் அமுதகலசம் எனப்படும் இனிப்வைப வைநவ�த்யம் கெசய்�ர்.
இந்த வகாயிலிலுள்ள கல் கருடன் மிக �ரப்ரஸாதி. இந்த கருட �ாகனத்தின் மீது எம்கெபருமாவைன எழுந்தருளச் கெசய்து, முதலில் நான்குவபர் மட்டுவம தாங்க, சிறுக, சிறுக கனம் கூடிக்கெகாண்வட வபாய் கெபருமாள் வகாபுர�ாசலுக்கு
�ந்து வசரும் வபாது அறுபத்து நான்குவபர் தாங்கி எழுந்தருளப் பண்ணு�ர். இந்த அதிசயம் இன்றும் நவைடகெபற்று �ருகிறது. இந்த கல்கருடவைன ஏழு �ியா�க்கி�வைமகள் கெதாடர்ந்து வச�ித்து அர்ச்சவைன கெசய்தால் நம் �ிருப்பங்கள் எல்லாம் வைககூடும்.

Sri HanUman
Today is the birthday of HanumAn, the supreme Raama ChaithanyA. He comes into focus in KishkindhAm and becomes the hero in Sundara KhAndam. He serves His Lord in Yuddha KhAndam and distinguishes Himself in the battle field. SitA Piratti singles Him out and blesses Him during the pattAbhishEkam ceremony at AyOdhyA. Lord RaamA blesses Him to be a chiranjeevi and He is sitting under the KalpakA tree playing the VeeNA with Naama Sankeerthanam of Sri RamachandrA.
It is appropriate to start with his DhyAna SlOkam:
sarvArishta nivArakam subhakarampinkAkshamakshApaham
SitAnvEshaNa tathparam KapivaramKoteendhusuryaprabham ILankhAdhvipabhayankaram sakaladhamSugreeva sammAnithamDEvndhAdhi samastha dEva vinuthamKAAKUTHSTHA DHUTHAM BHAJE II
This ambassador of Sri RamachandrA is indeed the remover of all inauspiciousness and difficulties and confers mangalam on his worshippers.
When we pray to Him, HanumAn blesses us with intellect, strength of body, illustrious fame, courage in times of danger, fearlessness to take initiatives in spiritual pursuits and freedom from all bodily ailments, wisdom and skilled (diplomatic) speech. The slokam corresponding to these thoughts is:
budhdirbhalam yasO dhairyamnirbhayathvamarOgathA IajADyam vaakpatuthvam chaHanUmath smarANdh bhavEth II
He is a nava vyAkaraNa pandithan; His body shines like a mountain of Gold (hemasailAbha dEham); He is in the front row of all Jn~Anis (Jn~AninAm agragaNyam). He is the most dear bhakthA of Sri RamA (Raghupathi Priya Bhakthan).
We surrender unto His holy feet. The SaraNAgathi to Him is celebrated in the following verse:
manOjavam mArutha Tulya vEgamjithEndhriyam bhuddhimathAm varishtam IvAthAthmajam vAnara yUtha mukhyamSri Raama dhUtham SaraNam prapadhyE II
This slOkam salutes HanUman as the one, who is as fast as the mind and equalling His father (Vaayu) in His speed of travel. He is saluted as the MahA yOgi, who has conquered His IndriyAs (senses) and as the foremost among the learned and as the supreme leader of the monkey army as well as the great ambassador of Sri RaamA.
Wherever there is an eulogy of His Lord's (RaamA's) name, He is always there with His head bowed in reverence and eyes filled with aanandha Bhaashpam (tears of Joy). This salutation to this great foe of RakshasAs is as follows:
Yathra yathra RaghunAtha Keerthanamtathra tathra kruthamasthaanjalim IbhAshpavAri paripUrNa lOchanamMaaruthim namatha raakshasAnthakam II
The other namaskArams to HanUmAn are contained in the followuing slOkAs and are always recited during the PaarAyaNam of Srimadh RaamAyaNam :
gOshpadheekrutha vArAsim masakikrutha rAkshasam IRaamaayaNa mahAmAlA rathnam vandhE anilAthmajam II
Here, the son of the wind God is saluted as the one who pulverized the RakshasAs of LankhA and as the jewel interlaced in the great necklace (garland) of RaamAyaNam. His power and parAkramam in jumping over the immense ocean to search for SitA piratti is compared to the act of His stepping over the water puddle made by the hoof of a Cow.
The next slOkam salutes Him as the delight of His mother AnjanA and the remover of the sorrows of SithA. He is considered as the Lord of Monkeys, who destroyed Aksha KumAran in battle and terrorized the citizens of LankhA with His incomparable heroism.
anjanAnandham veeram Jaanakee sOkanAsanam IKapeesam Aksha hanthAram vandhE LankhA bhayankaram II
His heroism in jumping over the Ocean in search of SitA Piratti as if it were a sport and quenching the fire of sorrow of SitA piratti is saluted next. The author of this slOkam salutes AnjanEyA with folded palms and recognizes Him as the one who burnt LankhA to teach a lesson to the evil RavaNA during His first visit to LankhA.
ullanghya sindhO: salilam saleelamya: sOkavahnim JanakAthmajAyA : IAdhAya tEnaiva dhadhAha LankhAmnamAmi tam prAnjalirAnjanEyam II
AnjanEyA, The delight of VayU (PavamAnanadanam) residing under the PaarijAthA tree (PaarijAtha-tarumUlavAsinam) with the body resembling a golden mountain (KanchanAdri kamaneeya Vigraham) and the face beautiful like the red trumpet flower is meditated upon here.
AnjanEyam athipAtalAnanamkanchanAdri kamaneeya Vigraham IPaarijAtha tarumUla VaasinambhavayAmi PavamAnanandhanam II
Great Rama BhakthAs like Saint ThyagarAja and MutthuswAmi Deekshithar, who gave us the splendid RaamAshtaka Krithis and Purandara Daasa have composed moving krithis to salute HanUmAn.
Saint ThyagarAjaa has given us two apUrva Raaga krithis set in Vasantha VarALi and PUrNa LalithA with pallavis, Paahi Raama DhuTha Jagath PrANa kumAra and kalugunA padhaneerajasEva? GandhavAhana Tanaya. These are beautiful krithis with a lot of depth in meaning.
MutthuswAmy Deekshithar has given us the three following Krithis set in RaagAs KaanadA, SankharAbharaNam and NaatA:
1. Veera HanumathE namO NamO, Maarutha Tanaya NamO namO
2. PavanAthmajam bhajarE chitta, parama sAntham sura Guruguha mahitham
3. PavanAthmaja Agaccha ParipUrNa svaccha ParamAthma Puccha paahi mAm Jaya Jaya nava nava Jaya Jaya
The last krithi seems to have been composed at ShOLingar (KatikAchalam) as a companion piece to the Mohana Krtihi inviting Lord NarasimhA to appear before Him and bless him (Narasimha Agaccha). At ShOlingar, Lord NarasimhA and HanumAn face each other on opposite hillocks. HanumAn has the VishNu chinnam (SankhA and Chakram) in His hands.
I conclude this tribute to HanUmAn with the sacred utterance, Om ham HanumathE nama:

The detailed interpretation of Saint Thyagaraaja' s Gowla (pancharatrna) kriti is quite interestin g. It is a pity most of the Srivaishnavites do not know that Sri Thyagaraja kitis contain the quintessence of our philosophny. For instance, the kriti "ELA NEEDAYARAADU" in Atana gives the inner meaning ofAshtaksharam and the kriti "Sitarama Ninne Namminaanu" in Huseni gives the meaning of Dwayam. I make it a point to bring home to my audience while presenting my Harikatha these facts. I have even performed harikatha on the topic"Swami Desikan vazhiyil Sadguru Thyagaraj" and "Azhwargal vazhiyil Sadghuru Thyagaraja" You are doing a great service. The originality of the Sermon lies in the innovation made by Krishna, in bringing to bear on the accepted knowledge, beliefs and practices of the Mahabharata period, the shining light of fresh thoughts, insights and perspectives in order to show, as effectively as possible, where these ideas can be misleading and go wrong and yet how they may remain useful within the reoriented frame-work of a larger vision presented in the Sermon. 16. The battle back – ground set for the Teaching brings out clearly that the guiding principles of human life can be thought out not only in the peace of forests and mountain caves (as is the case with the great Upanishad teachings), but even amidst the tumultuous and disturbing noise and unrest of the battlefield. Peace and serenity of the mind can be had as much in the battlefield as in the solitude of the cave. What is needed is s’raddha and self-effort – abhyaasa and vairaagya. The battlefield emphasises the restlessness in human life, where one faces the innumerable problems and baffling situations. The Sermon teaches us how to equip ourselves to fight this battle of life, because without preparation the battle cannot be fought and won. In this battle of life one’s enemy is not without but
within. A reverent study of Mahabharata would bring out that Krishna had especially manifested His Divine qualities of vaatsalya (tender protective love), swaamitva (Lordliness or ownership – His claim on the soul whether it wants Him or not), sowlabhya (easy accessibility), and sowseelya (friendship or affability) to Pandavas and particularly to Arjuna. The scene of the Sermon is not the forest nor the cave of meditation in Himalayan peaks, but the clamourous battle field with the pending hurling of shafts and arrows, where stand Arjuna the human, the fighter with bow in hand and Krishna the Divine, the holder of the reins of the horses of the chariot. All the divine qualities stated above are seen in Krishna’s role as the Charioteer of Arjuna (Paarthasaarathi). It is therefore no wonder that throughout the dialogue, Krishna takes the role of a discriminating intellect (the inner – voice or conscience) in a person – a true Charioteer in the Kathopanishad sense. There is, in Kathopanishad, a beautiful simile illustrating the relations which exist between the soul, the body, the mind, the senses and the intellect.
“Know the soul to be the rider in the chariot, which is the body. Consider the intellect as the charioteer, the mind the reins, the senses the horses and the desirable things of the world (sense-objects) the thoroughfare on which they career. The destination is supreme peace and bliss of liberation. If the intellect (charioteer) is unwise and does not vigilantly control the mind (reins), then the senses (horses) bolt uncontrollably like wicked horses. If, on the contrary, the intellect (charioteer) is wise and keeps a firm grip on the mind (reins), then the senses (horses) are in perfect control as good horses with a competent intellect (charioteer). Thus the soul’s journey towards the destination – liberation, is easily and safely accomplished”. – (Based on Kathopanishad):
In this context, it is, perhaps, relevant to quote the observations of Chhotey Bharany, commenting on “Hindu Attitude to Worldly Riches” by Akhileshwar Jha:
“Mukti is complete freedom. It is to rise above all bindings. It is not a place we go to, after death, but a state of mind, we attain with our efforts, while living in this very body. To reach the mukti we are provided with a beautiful chariot. This chariot is drawn by two magnificent horses of wealth and desire. Dharma is holding the reins, guiding, controlling, and directing these horses as the master. Dharma is the charioteer, artha (wealth), kaama (desire) are the two horses. Moksha is the destination”.
17. The above can be considered as Krishna’s presentation of chariot simile consistent with that of Katha Upanishad. Krishna never rejected Dharma-oriented desire (“I am the desire (kaamah), unopposed to righteousness in all beings” – 7.11). What Gita urges is giving up lust (craving for something for which there is no moral justification) and not desire. The problem is not desire, but it is attachment, which holds on when flow of life wants you to let go. On the other hand desire can be great motivating factor and can help to attain peace of mind. Each spiritual desire is a small step, which in its evolution may, if you will, lead to the highest desire – to know your divine nature. He is also not opposed to wealth (artha), but insists that it is rightly earned and shared with the society in the spirit of lokasamgraha (yajna spirit). Has not Krishna stated that He will look after the possessions and welfare of the devotees who ever think of Him to the exclusion of all else (9.22). Has he not told Arjuna: “Arise, win glory, conquering your foes, enjoy the prosperous kingdom” – (11.33): This Charioteer Dharma is no other than Krishna – dharmasya prabhuh acyutah (Krishna, who never slips from the path of dharma (righteousness) is the controller of dharma) – VSS phala s’ruti, “s’aas’vatasya ca dharmasya pratisht’haa aham – I am the Ground (Foundation), the Eternal way of Righteousness”. – (14.27): “Krishna is only Arjuna’s charioteer and advisor. He has promised Arjuna that he will be with him throughout the battle and hopes for his victory, but he has sworn to be non-participator in the struggle. Krishna’s position as a charioteer is a lowly one compared to the glory of the warrior he drives. Krishna assumes this modest role out of love for Arjuna. A
charioteer has to be an exceedingly skilled horseman, so that he can tactfully manage the chariot to protect the fighter from being unnecessarily exposed to danger. Moreover as a charioteer Krishna is in perfect position to advise and encourage Arjuna without violating his promise not to participate in the combat Himself”.

VishnumIn Dharma Sthothram or in any subject prayers are needed first. In the very first sloka of Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam Dhyana slokam is of Shuklam baradharam vishnum sasi varnam chaturbhujam prasanna vadanam dyayeth Sarva Vignoba santhaye It is stated as “for the eradication of all obstructions, meditate on Sri Maha Vishnu, who is wearing a white cloth,, who is of the color of the moon , who has four arms and who has a placid expression on His face..After Prayers to Vishvaksena, prayers to Vyasa the great grand son of Vasishta, Grandson of Sakthi, son of Parasara, and father of Suka is done. Again salutations to Mahavishnu is done as He is who free all our bonds of samsara (birth and death) janma samsara bandanath .Parasara Bhattar offer his respects to Embar, Srivatsanka, his father, Sri Ramanuja, periya nambi, Alavandar, Nathamuni, Nammazhwar, in his commentaries BHAGAVATH GUNA DARPANA first, and then pray Sri Vishvaksena, the commander in chief of Sri Ranganatha,and Sri mahalakshmi to complete this task successfully.

Dharmas are of four types1. Performed for material benefits, for attaining wealth, begetting children etc 2. Done to obtain celestial pleasures 3. Acting in expectation of Moksham4. Carrying out as exclusive Services to HIM.Bhishma considered the fourth is the best of all Dhaarmas as it is worship with love and devotion.
Swamy Desikan in Adaikkalappathu, says as “Thamathanaithum avar thamkku vazhanghi tham miga vilanghum .With His abundant wealth , He gives happiness to all and He is the supreme to flourish all in full state. This fullness is mentioned as Viswam as first nama.The second Nama Vishnu tells as Vishnu, the one who pervades all and nothing ever pervades Him.. All this is indwelt, pervaded by the Lord. This very same idea is described in the typical style in Vamana Avatharam .It is stated in Maha bharatha , Vamana, with His three feet, measured the entire universe and , the Lord got the name Vishnu,. The entire world of things and beings is pervaded by Him and the Upanishad emphatically insists in its mantra ‘whatever that is, there is the world of change’. Hence it means that there is no limitation of space, time or substance. .
. Vishnu means “one who pervades “. Supreme Maha Vishnu pervades all that He possesses. He enters into all the sentient things that are His wealth. Supreme God is present in all souls and Dharma is common and must for all is stressed in a story by Vyasa.Vyasa saw a small worm moving towards a corner in a road before his Ashram. He asked as “why you are going so fast. Is there anything to be done? “. The worm replied as it just wants to save from a big bullock cart running towards that worm. Then Vyasa asked not to worry about its life and to face death easily. Then worm replied coolly as “you have prejudice on me and so you are telling like this”. When Vyasa asked about the type of prejudice, the worm said as”I have no duties to be done, no exercises in life, no worship is needed for me, no listening of any lectures. But you all have such responsibilities. These are the reasons for prejudice.. But Vyasa felt bad for his position as men given with all senses and knowledge often fail and deviate from doing the prescribed duties . So he is considered lower to that worm. When a small worm is telling all these, it is sure that God dwells as paramatma even inside such worm, So Dharma is just carrying out one’s duty perfectly, without any expectation of its results. Even through a small worm great Dharma is established
Sri Maha Vishnu, out of His free will and choice , manifests Himself in such forms as He deems fit , in order to establish righteousness in the world by protecting the virtuous and eliminating the wicked. He has thus assumed several forms in his incarnations as a mathsya, korma, (Fish, turtle ) marine inhabitants, , varaha, wild boar of terrestrial species, and then as Nrisimha lion man , mysterial combination of lion and human characters , and then normal human forms such as Vamana, Parasurama, Sri Rama, BalaRama, Krishna . In all His incarnations Vishnu has chosen to assume appropriate forms and modes of conduct for the fulfillment of the purpose for which He has come to the world, and to establish Dharma and to protect Dharma.
The Nama ‘Vishnu’ takes second place in Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam , in order to give universal faith to this Holy name and so placed after Viswam . More in the next issues …..

17. Ravana fights with Jatayu
Seetha cried aloud calling Lakshmana and Rama and told Ravana that he was going to be destroyed by Rama for doing such a wicked thing prompted by his bad fortune. Then Seetha in her anguish said that Kaikeyi would have been happy that her wish was fulfilled, meaning that she wanted them to undergo suffering in the forest and it has happened now.
Seetha entreated the trees and the forest deities to tell Rama that Ravana was abducting her.She asked all the animals in forest to do so. Then she saw Jatayu sitting on a tree and cried out to him telling him that Ravana was carrying her off and said that he would not be stopped by Jatayu because he is cruel and mighty but asked him to tell Rama what happened.
Jatayu who was sleeping heard Seetha and saw Ravana carrying her off and first tried to advise Ravana, saying that Rama was equal to Indra and Varuna in valour and Ravana was committing a great sin and if he did not leave Seetha, as Indra killed Vrthra by the thunderbolt, Rama would kill him with his glance itself. Jatayu warned Ravana that he was carrying a poisonous snake tied to the end of his cloth and was winding the noose of death around his neck.
Then Jatayu told Ravana that even though he himself was old and unarmed he will not allow Ravana to carry Seetha as long as he lived . Hearing this Ravana was furious and started fighting with Jatayu and their fight is compared by Valmiki to that of two mountains. Ravana attacked Jatayu with his arrows and Jatayu wounded his body in several places with his beak and claws. Moved by Seetha in tears, Jatayu attacked Ravana fiercely and broke his bow, armour and killed the mules that were drawing his chariot, also destroying his chariot and other paraphernalia. This forced Ravana to descend to the ground and he stood there without releasing his grasp of Seetha. Seeing Jatayu fatigued, Ravana rose up in the air with Seetha but Jatayu also flew up barring his way and said that he and his followers would attain the state of those who drank the poisoned water and he was like the fish caught in the hook and could not escape the wrath of Rama wherever he went. Jatayu said that Ravana was a coward to abduct Seetha when Rama and Lakshmana was not there.
When Ravana would not listen to him Jatayu fell on his back and attacked him with his claws as one would injure the rouge elephant by using the goad. Then Ravana also fought fiercely with Jatayu and finally chopped off his legs and wings with his sword and Jatayu fell down.
Seetha on seeing Jatayu helplessly fallen on the ground, ran towards him and embraced him and cried. She told him that he would live till he saw Rama and informed the news of her abduction. Thus Jatayu was embraced by Seetha even before Rama did so and hence graced by her to live till Rama came. This was the indication that Jatayu was going to be liberated from embodiment as he was blessed by the divine mother, who is the purushkarabhootha, one who recommends the case of the devotees to the Lord.
Seetha then seeing Ravana coming near her clung to a tree but Ravana pulled her away. Valmiki says that seeing that there was no rescue for Seetha from Ravana the whole nature changed and all the worlds became covered with darkness and the wind did not blow and the sun lost his lustre. Seeing her Brahma said to himself that the deed was accomplished. ’krtham kaaryam ithi Sreemaan vyaajahaara pithaamahaH.’ The sages seeing Seetha
pulled by Ravana, became both glad and sorrowful at the same time, glad that Ravana was nearing his death and sad to see the plight of Seetha.
Then Ravana rose in the sky carrying Seetha and Valmiki, the poet describes the scene in detail.
18.Ravana carrying Seetha
Seetha was wearing a garment of yellow silk and shining ornaments of gold and she looked like a lightning while Ravana was looking like a volacano with his fiery hued cloth moving in the wind. Valmki further compares the cloth worn by Seetha moving in the air to the red cloud at noon., which is an impossibility. This and the comparison of Seetha to lightning indicated calamity for Ravana. Her face was like a lotus plucked from its soil and lost its lustre. She was shining like a second moon from the dark cloud, symbolized by Ravana, another weird happening serving as a bad omen. Seetha with her golden colour seen with the dark hued Ravana looked like a golden girdle around blue sapphire. The implication is that only silver goes well with blue sapphire and gold seemed out of place.
The speed with which Ravana was going was indicated by the flowers from the head of Seetha scattering on all sides and again falling on Ravana, who is compared by Valmiki to the high mountain of Meru shining with clear stars. Seetha was like a fire in the sky, which is bad omen like a comet. Her ornaments fell down on earth like the stars, says Valmiki, on their merit being exhausted. It is supposed that those who have acquired merit, punya, become stars and after their merits are exhausted they fell down to earth to take rebirth. The pearl garland falling from the neck of Seetha was like Ganges falling from the heavens.
The great wind that rose from the speed of Ravana created big noise in the trees and the birds were chirping loudly as though to reassure Seetha, while the aquatic beings seeing the lotuses shake violently became afraid. The wild animals of the forest ran along as though they wanted to threaten Ravana. The mountains with their high peaks and waterfalls flowing from them seem to cry with uplifted arms. Even the Sun lost his lustre. Thus the whole nature was struck with sorrow on Seetha being carried away.
Seetha tried her level best to dissuade Ravana from taking her away by insulting him and threatening him of dire consequences. She called him a coward in spite of his bragging about his valour earlier, since he came like a thief when Rama and Lakshmana were not there. She said that there was nothing to be proud of in slaying an old bird like Jatayu and he could not stand in front of Rama and that was why he was flying away speedily. Seetha told him that he could not bear the shower of arrows of Rama and Lakshman like a bird caught in a forest fire. She said she will never agree to his wish and would not live long and Ravana was nearing his death and hence he is acting like a man who pursues wrong path at the time of death. mrthyukaale yaThaa marthyo vipareethaani sevathe. Ravana , she said, will not escape from Rama wherever he runs and reminded him that Rama killed 14000 rakshasas with Khara and Dhooshana single handed. But Ravana under the spell of fate that was causing his end, did not pay heed and carried her off.
Seetha was looking on all sides to see whether anyone would come for her resque and saw five monkeys on the top of a hill near the river Pampa and tearing a part of her upper garment, tied her ornaments in it and threw it towards them hoping that they will give it to Rama when he came searching for her. These were Sugriva and his followers hiding in the Rsyamooka hill to escape from Vali. They looked at her and saw what was happening and later Rama heard this from them.
The commentators say that Sugrive looked up and was seen by Seetha and hence he regained his kingdom soon afterwards due to her kataksha which proves that to get the grace of the Lord first one should get the grace of the divine mother.
Ravana was elated in taking her away as he crossed the area of the asrama without opposition not knowing that he was carrying his death in his lap, as though carrying a fierce and poisonous cobra, says Valmiki. ‘Thaam jahaara susamhrshto raavaNo mrthyum aathmanaH; uthsangenaiva bujageem theekshna dhashtraam mahaavishaam.’
Thus crossing the sea Ravana reached Lanka with Seetha. Valmiki says that the sea was agitated to see the act of Ravana and the waves of the ocean became silent along with the creatures in it. The celestial beings like the siddhas and charanas saw him and predicted his end to happen very soon.

Let me have the pleasure of introducing myself as one of the Committee members constituted for the renovation of Sri Ranganayaki sameda Sri Ranganatha Perumal Temple at THIRUVIDAIVASAL in Thiruvarur Dist which needed our immedite attention as it was in a total dilapidated condition.The Temple is about 500 years old and the last Samprokshanam was performed 60 years ago and as all the 30 and odd Srivaishnavite families have migrated outside seeking greener postures.Even the nithyapadi pujas were not done since last 30 years. It is by His Divine ordain the descendants of the village-with great difficulty we have been able to trace many scattered all over -and a Renovation Committee was formed for the noble purpose of bringing back the lost glory! The Committee mostly comprising of the descendants of the village was formed in Feb 2009 and the Balalayam was constructed on 13-3-09 and Bhoomi Pooja on 15-6-2009.Within a span of one year from Balalayam we are happy to inform you that with HIS DIVINE Grace the renovation work is complete and the Samprokshanam is fixed on 5th May 2010 with the blessings of both the Alagiya Singars. We were able to seek the Grace of Acharyans -the 45th and 46th Pontiffs of Ahobila Mutt at their camp at Pulla Poothangudy last week.. I am delighted to know about the KAINKARYA SABHA at Virugambakkam,Chennai and I would like to avail this opportunity to request you to participate in our holy mission. Property in search of owner Lord Narayana is the owner of the atma. So when we worship Him, it is a case of the property seeking the owner, said M.A.Venkatakrishnan. Devotees even take liberties with the Lord when they assume a commanding tone with Him. Thirumangai Azhvar threatens to go round telling people of Krishna's pranks, if He does not listen to his (Thirumangai Azhvar's) pleas. He says he will tell everyone that Krishna is the One who stole butter, who shamelessly danced with the gopikas, who ate up the food meant for the Govardhan hill, as the One who went as a mere messenger on behalf of the Pandavas. All these qualities of Krishna actually show His simplicity. But Thirumangai Azhvar's tone of voice is demanding.
That is a licence given to saints like him. The Lord will take delight even in such words that come from His devotees.
We refer to the Lord as ‘swami'. ‘Swa' in Sanskrit means property. Swami is, therefore, one who owns. In the case of the Lord, we refer to Him as Swami, because He is the owner of the atma.
But preceptors too are addressed as ‘Swami.' How can they be addressed as ‘Swami', the word used for the Lord? Our preceptors too own something very important. They own the property called ‘Seshatva.' That is they know that their relationship to the Lord is that of the body to the Soul, and they only want to serve the Lord all the time.
The Lord, through preceptors, helps us to understand Him. Even our prostrating before Him, is an act that He wills. We are like dolls put on this earth. So when we fall at His feet, it is as if we have been pushed down at His feet, as a doll might be.
But we must remember that it is His pleasure in Sri Vaikuntha that is of importance to us. If a man owns a diamond ring, and he polishes it, who is the one who benefits from the polishing? The owner of the ring is the one who benefits, for now the ring glows, and the man delights in his possession.
In the same way, the Lord gives us the required knowledge, so that He can grant us moksha, and when we serve Him in Sri Vaikuntha, He can delight in our service.
