    Come compete in this 5K run to help promote energy saving awareness in the community. There is no pre-registration required, but sign-ups will start at 10:30 a.m. on the day of event. Call 241-4486 for more information.

    Nikko Autumn Samurai Costume Parade

    Visit one of Japan’s most popular tourist spots at Nikko. Enjoy the annual Samurai Festival and a boat ride on the Kinugawa River. Due to the Riverboat ride safety restriction, infants are not allowed. Call 241-5056 for more information.

    Take a free ride on the Yokosuka Circle Bus and visit several places including Yokosuka Port Market, Kurihama Shopping Street, Kannonzaki Nature Museum, the Uraga area and more. Get on and off at any Circle Bus stop. It departs Yokosuka Port Market every hour starting at 10 a.m. English speaking staff are also available on the bus. The bus will run even in the rain and any cancellations will be posted on the Yokosuka Circle Bus Facebook page. Seating is limited so reservations are recommended in advance.     Yokosuka Mikoshi Parade10:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.| Yokosuka Chuo Street (Blue Street), Womble Gate

    U.S. Navy volunteers and members of the local Japanese community will carry their mikoshi floats from Yokosuka Chuo Street (Blue Street) to the base. The parade through the base starts at 11:20 a.m. at Clement Blvd. There will be food booths and entertainment also on base. Visitors to the base may be asked to present IDs. Non-Japanese Nationals must present a passport or resident card. In case of heavy rain event will be canceled.

    COMMENT: CFAY leadership should engage with Commander, Naval Installations Command (CNIC) to rescind the requirement that all base fitness instructors be certified. While CNIC’s instruction may serve a purpose, it is about to have disastrous effects for the base. The fitness center management is now enforcing this rule and citing that the policy is mandatory. As a result, classes will

    trainers to have CPR training, a National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA-recognized certification in personal training or group exercise (ACE, ACSM, NASM to list a few) and insurance. Since group exercise classes are contracted to individuals, the burden of meeting these requirements is on the instructor. These requirements are for both the safety of the students and the protection of the instructor. Over the last

    year, we have not issued any group exercise, martial arts or personal training contracts to individuals without these required credentials.     Commissary Parking Lot:The commissary parking lot will experience phased closures until December 9 for repaving and repainting.

    Main Gate Area: Partial road closure of egress lanes from 7p.m. to 6 a.m. until October 31 to replace water pipes.

    Closures by Yokosuka Mini-Mart:NEX Autoport parking lot closure in phases from October 16 to December 1.

    Yokosuka and Ikego PostOffices begin migration to a new parcel delivery and tracking system Oct. 15. It is not expected to be online until late October/early November. There will only be manual parcel processing, notification and delivery until the new system is completed. Contact your local postal officer for information.
