Understanding the processMost of us know the basics
◦ You will need:
◦ A will
◦ If not, the state (and the probate court) will decide what happens to your estate
◦ Costly and time-consuming
◦ An executor
◦ Also referred to as a “Personal Representative”
◦ Their job it is to carry out your (documented) wishes
◦ An executor checklist
◦ Allows your executor to more easily fulfill your wishes
◦ Leaving the process to chance means that things will likely be missed.

A few words about home safes Most home safes are not certified for media storage
◦ A safe to store devices with memory must have a rating of 125 or lower◦ Internal temp will never exceed 125 degrees (for 30 minutes)
◦ Humidity below 85%
◦ Usually those safes are also waterproof, but make sure
◦ UL and/or ETL certified
◦ Don’t put it where it could be unretrievable in case of fire (i.e., buried)
◦ Don’t drill holes, as that could compromise waterproofing
◦ Make sure at least one other person has access◦ Not only your spouse, in case something happens to both of you
◦ If you get a biometric safe, make sure that you have multiple fingerprints registered
