Find two reasons why the characters like Gudetama are popular.

In 2013, Japan fell in love with a cartoon egg named Gudetama (in Japanese, ‘gudegude’descr ibes someone who is lazy, whi le ‘tamago’ means egg). Gudetama always looks exhausted, maybe even depressed. In his TV show, he refuses to do simple tasks, preferring to hide in his shell or under a bacon blanket.

Gudetama was created by Sanrio, the same company responsible for Hello Kitty and Bad Badtz-Maru. Why do people like Sanrio’s characters so much? They often show bad behaviours: Gudetama is lazy and Badtz-Maru is naughty. Perhaps, because we mustn’t be lazy and naughty in real life, we use Sanrio’s characters to represent our negative feelings. Of course, they are also very cute. Gudetama appears on pyjamas, notebooks, phone cases-he even has his own Line stickers.
