Due to space limitations and the challenge to provide a safe, ergonomic and effective solution, the management of the district hospital in Günzburg decided in favour of a Lektriever by Kardex Remstar, a vertical carousel that is optimally suited for the archiving of frequently accessed fi les and documents. The machine was positioned next to a computer so it can be controlled via pc at a later time, if required. The patient medical records are kept in hanging fi les which can be easily accessed and removed from the machine at the simple push of a button.

Task defi nition

The administration of the district hospital in Günzburg wanted to replace its existing patient record archiving system. In Germany medical records must generally be kept for a period of 30 years. The goal had been to fi nd an automated, space-saving solution that would make the most of the available space because as many as 3,500 new medical records have to be fi led each year. The task was also to provide fast access and maxi-mum safety.
