On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I have the pleasure to announceAsia Steel 2009 Conference to be held in Busan, Korea. The purpose of theConference is to bring together academia, researchers and engineers toshare achievements, ideas and vision on iron and steel. The conference is toprovide a forum for experts and professionals from Asia and also all aroundthe world to discuss topics that deal with recent advancement in the widespectrum of steel production-related technology. This conference is acontinuation of the First Asia Steel International Conference (2000) in India,the 2nd (2003) in China and the 3rd (2006) in Japan. The 4th Conference thistime in Busan will certainly offer a venue where participants not just enrichtheir professional knowledge base, but also deepen friendship with peersand authorities. I look forward to meeting you in Busan, one of the most beautiful maritimecities in Asia.

Busan, a beautiful maritime city in Asia

Located at south-eastern tip of the Korean Peninsula, Busan faces Japan across the Straits of Korea to south andneighboring China to the west. Busan is one of the most beautiful maritime cities in Asia and is recentlyrenowned as an exhibition and convention city. Following the successful hosting major international events suchas 2005 APEC leader's meeting, Busan is ranked the top 8th convention city in Asia. The city shows a typicaloceanic climate with four distinct seasons.

Call for Abstracts:The organizing Committee welcomes submission of abstracts for presentation at the Asia Steel 2009International Conference by August 31, 2008. Each abstract should be written in English within 400 words length.The abstract must be in MS Word format, and include the title, authors full names (surname in capital letters),position, affiliation, address, telephones, and email. Cancellation PolicyCancellation will be accepted only if a written notification is received by the Asia Steel 2009Conference secretariat. Refund will be made according to the following schedule:

You can choose the room type between one double bed and twin beds at the same rates above. The rate is subject to 10% service charge for foreign participants, and 10% service charge and 10% tax for Korean participants. It does not include breakfast.

Korean Visa Issue

The Korean Institute of Metals and Materials, a hosting organization will issue an invitation for thosewho need a Korean visa to participate in Asia Steel Conference 2009. Your personal informationincluding name, position, organization, passport no., address and telephone no. should be informedto the conference secretariat in advance. It will take 7 to 10 days for you to receive an original versionof the invitation by airmail.

POSCO Plant Tour + Visit to Gyeongju - a city of thousand years history

On Thursday May 28 a plant visit to POSCO is arranged. You will be able tosee some of the production facilities and the POSCO history museum. Half aday will be spent by visiting the city of Gyeongju, the best historicalattraction in Korea. Details may be found at the Conference website.

Attractions in BusanFor delegates who would like to stay in Busan after the conference, there are avariety of attractions to enjoy and experience Korean cultures.

Beomeosa TempleOn top of the eastern portion of Mt. Geumjeong, Beomo Temple is one of thefive greatest temples in Korea. Traditional hermitages, important culturalassets and relics are scattered throughout the temple. Temple stays areavailable for tourists.

Dongbaek Island & APEC HouseThe island is famous for its beautiful scenery surrounded by tall camellias andthick pine groves. On a clear day, visitors can see the Japanese island ofDaema(Tsushima). Nurimaru APEC House(the 2nd APEC Summit venue) islocated here, drawing increasing tourists.

Busan AquariumThe Busan Aquarium is the largest aquarium in Korea with state-of-the-artfacilities.
