3. Mục tiêu của học phần

Kiến thức: Học xong học phần này, người học củng cố và nâng cao vốn từ vựng cũng như các cấu trúc câu phức tạp để có thể đọc hiểu những bài đọc có trình độ từ trên trung cấp về các chủ đề khác nhau của cuộc sống như nông nghiệp, môi trường, kinh tế, kỹ thuật, công nghệ thông tin, nghệ thuật, y học, khoa học tự nhiên, khoa học xã hội, đồng thời được trang bị những kiến thức chuyên ngành nâng cao để có thể hiểu được các bài đọc của IELTS.

Kỹ năng: Người học củng cố lại các kỹ năng đọc cơ bản đã học ở Kỹ năng đọc 1, 2 kháo sát bài đọc trước khi đọc, đọc nhanh để tìm ý chính của bài đọc, đọc lướt để tìm các thông tin chi tiết, đoán nghĩa của từ trong ngữ cảnh, phân biệt giữa sự thật và ý kiến chủ quan…đồng thời phát triển các kỹ năng đọc nâng cao để có kỹ năng làm bài thi môn đọc của IELTS.

Thái độ: Người học có thái độ tích cực tham gia vào các hoạt động trên lớp, chủ động chuẩn bị bài và làm bài tập ở nhà, trung thực trong kiểm tra, đánh giá.

4. Tóm tắt nội dung học phần- Học phần bao gồm 14 nội dung chính được sắp xếp theo thứ tự tương ứng của các

bài trong giáo trình For Your Information 3, và Reading for IELTs. Mỗi nội dung bài học gồm ba phần chính:

+ Từ vựng: Người học được cung cấp một hệ thống từ vựng bao quanh các chủ đề khác nhau của cuộc sống như sức khỏe, văn hóa, thể thao, du lịch, thương mại, nông nghiệp, môi trường, kinh tế, kỹ thuật, công nghệ thông tin, nghệ thuật, y học, khoa học tự nhiên, khoa học xã hội ….

+ Kỹ năng đọc: Trong phần này, người học nắm được các kỹ năng đọc hiểu và có khả năng áp dụng các kỹ năng này trong quá trình đọc. Sinh viên được rèn luyện để phát triển các kỹ năng đọc hiểu: khảo sát trước khi đọc, đọc tìm ý chính, đọc tìm thông tin cần thiết, đọc và đoán nghĩa của từ mới trong bài, đoán nghĩa từ mới từ dạng của từ, đọc và phân tích bài đọc, đọc và tóm tắt nội dung chính của bài đọc, cũng như các kỹ năng làm bài thi phần đọc hiểu IELTS.

+ Thực hành đọc: Người học được thực hành đọc hiểu các bài đọc có văn phong khác nhau có độ dài 600 – 800 từ , với các chủ đề đa dạng như sức khỏe, văn hóa, thể thao, du lịch, thương mại, nông nghiệp, môi trường, kinh tế, kỹ thuật, công nghệ thông tin, nghệ thuật, y học, khoa học tự nhiên, khoa học xã hội … Trong khi đọc, người đọc thể hiện sự đọc hiểu bằng cách trả lời các câu hỏi theo sau mỗi bài đọc.

9. Phương pháp, hình thức kiểm tra - đánh giá kết quả học tập môn học9.1. Kiểm tra – đánh giá thường xuyên: Trọng số 30%

Mục đích: Nhằm đảm bảo sinh viên tích cực học tập ở trên lớp cũng như ngoài lớp trong suốt quá trình học.

* Trong quá trình học tập, sinh viên cần phải tham tích cực các hoạt động trong lớp: 5%- Hoạt động theo nhóm: Thảo luận các vấn đề được đưa ra liên quan đến bài đọc.- Hoạt động theo đôi: trao đổi ý kiến với bạn về một kỹ năng đọc hay một chủ đề có liên quan đến bài học. - Hoạt động cá nhân: phát biểu ý kiến xây dựng bài có chất lượng trên lớp và hoàn thành tất cả các bài tập do giảng viên yêu cầu.

* Bài tập cá nhân: 5%- Mỗi tuần, sinh viên phải đọc 3 - 4 bài và làm bài tập về nhà sau bài học trên lớp theo phần tự học của đề cương chi tiết học phần. Sinh viên thảo luận câu trả lời với các thành viên khác trong lớp. Giáo viên sẽ kiểm tra vào tuần học kế tiếp để đảm bảo sinh viên tự học ngoài giờ trên lớp. Sinh viên nộp vở bài tập về nhà cho giáo viên khi kết thúc môn học.

* Bài tập nhóm: 5%- Sinh viên phải làm việc theo nhóm để tìm các bài đọc liên quan đến chủ đề của mỗi tuần từ các nguồn tài liệu khác như sách, báo, tạp chí, mang Internet và tóm tắt, tổng hợp thành một bài báo cáo về những thông tin mình đã thu thập được. Mỗi tuần đại diện của mỗi nhóm sẽ trình bày trước lớp. Bài báo cáo của nhóm ở mỗi tuần sẽ được đóng thành một quyển (1 Portfolio) nộp cho giáo viên khi kết thúc môn học.

* Bài kiểm tra tiến độ 1: 5%- Bài kiểm tra tiến độ 1 được tiến hành vào cuối tuần 4 của khóa học. Bài kiểm tra này gồm 2 phần: lý thuyết và thực hành. Sinh viên phải nắm vững các kỹ năng đã học ở các tuần 2,3 và đầu tuần 4, và có thể áp dụng vào việc đọc hiểu các bài đọc cụ thể.

* Bài kiểm tra tiến độ 2: 5%

- Bài kiểm tra tiến độ 2 được tiến hành vào cuối tuần 10 của khóa học. Bài kiểm tra này gồm 2 phần: lý thuyết và thực hành. Sinh viên phải nắm vững các kỹ năng đã học ở từ tuần 2 đến đầu tuần 10, và có thể áp dụng vào việc đọc hiểu các bài đọc cụ thể.

* Bài kiểm tra tiến độ 3: 5%- Bài kiểm tra mức độ đạt được về kiến thức và kỹ năng của sinh viên sau khóa học được tiến hành vào tuần 13. Bài kiểm tra này gồm 2 phần: lý thuyết và thực hành. Sinh viên phải nắm vững các kỹ năng đã học và có thể áp dụng vào việc đọc hiểu các bài đọc ở trình độ trung cấp (intermediate) đến trên trung cấp (upper-intermediate).

9.2. Kiểm tra - đánh giá giữa kì: Trọng số 20%Bài kiểm tra giữa kỳ nhằm mục đích đánh giá sinh viên kiến thức về từ vựng, kỹ năng

đọc hiểu đã học từ tuần 1 đến tuần 7 và khả năng áp dụng những hiểu biết về từ vựng và kỹ năng vào quá trình đọc hiểu.- Thi đọc hiểu giữa kì được thực hiện theo hình thức một bài đọc có 2 phần:

* Phần 1: Kiểm tra lý thuyết. * Phần 2: Áp dụng lý thuyết vào thực hành đọc hiểu. Ðiểm thi dựa trên các tiêu chí sau đây:* Sinh viên nắm được các kỹ năng đọc hiểu.* Sinh viên áp dụng các kỹ năng đọc hiểu vào bài đọc cụ thể và trả lời đúng các câu hỏi được đặt ra.

A. That “Monday morning feeling” could be a crushing pain in the chest which leaves you sweating and gasping for breath. Recent research from Germany and Italy shows that heart attacks are more common on Monday mornings and doctors blame the stress of returning to work after the weekend break.B. They have a higher workload, more stress, more anger and more physical activity,” said Willich. “We need to know how these events cause changes in the body before we can understand if they cause heart attacks.”G. But although it is attempting to believe that returning to work increases the risk of a heart attack, both Willich and the Italian researchers admit that it is only a partial answer. Both studies show that the over-65s are also vulnerable on a Monday morning even though most no longer work. The reason for this is not clear, but the Italian team at the Luigi Saddo Hospital in Milan speculate that social interactions- the thought of facing another week and all its pressures- may play a part. H. What is clear, however, is that the Monday morning peak seems to be consistent from northern Germany to southern Italy in spite of the differences in diet and lifestyle.I. Willich is reluctant at this stage to make specific recommendations, but he suggests that anyone who suffers from heart disease should take it easy on Monday mornings and leave potentially stressful meetings until midweek. “People should try to create a pleasant working environment,” he added. “May be this risk applies only to those who see work as a burden, and people who enjoy their work are not so much at risk. We need to find out more.”

Part II. Read the passage and choose the best answer to each question One of the most powerful city-states of the ancient world was Carthage. Carthage

was primarily a city of traders and merchants. The city was founded in 814 B.C. by the Phoenicians, who were also merchants and one of the world's earlier civilizations. Carthage was ruled by an oligarchy, a collection of powerful familles and the few elected leaders that it had held little real power. The Carthaginians worship a number of gods, and in times of trouble they practiced child sacrifice. In this practice, powerful families would kill their youngest child in order to gain protection and aid from their gods.

By the 6th century B.C. the power of Carthage was on the rise, and the city quickly came into conflict with the Greek city-states over the control of trade in the Mediterranean Sea. [A] The Carthaginians were excellent sailors and had a powerful navy, and from the 5th to the 3rd centuries B.C. these two civilizations fought numerous wars. Most of these wars, however, were minor and relatively short-lived. But in the middle of the 3rd century, a new enemy would appear, with whom Carthage would fight much bloodier wars.

This new enemy was Rome. [B] Rome and Carthage fought three major wars from 264 B.C. to 146 B.C. [C] The first war severely weakened both kingdoms. In the end, however, Rome won the first war, and they forced Carthage to agree to heavy penalties in the peace treaty that followed the war.

After thirty years, however, Carthage had regained enough of its power that Rome felt threatened once again. [D] Rome declared war on Carthage, but before they had a chance to act, the Carthaginians invaded Italy. The attack by Carthage was so successful that it almost destroyed the Roman Empire. The Romans recovered, however, and Carthage was once again defeated. After this defeat, the power of Carthage was so greatly

reduced that they no longer had the power to challenge Rome. But the Romans remembered how close they had come to total defeat in the second war and help a deep hatred for the Carthaginians. They attacked the weakened city.
