Autumn is in full swing this November and it brings along an injection of excitement for
the Far East when Asia play host to the shiniest stars in golf as they tee-‐off in some of the
great tournaments. Among them, the annual HSBC World Golf Championship – dubbed
the biggest in the Asia Pacific – is held in Mission Hills this year, but everyone is already
guessing where will it be in 2013! In the mean time, our internationally acclaimed course
will see action during the inaugural Club Championship as defending champions defend
their titles amidst the picturesque browning of the flora and fauna!

Course Maintenance Bulletin
Along with the seasonal changes, expect some modifications to our
course grass. The dormant summer Paspalum is replaced by the full
growth of winter rye grass. The rough will begin to brown out
naturally over the coming weeks, as we did not overseed this year to
allow the grass some rest. Our fairways, tee boxes, and greens will
remain green and lush to provide the best conditions for your swing.
Also noticeable are a number of new trees planted along many of the
holes on the golf course. These trees will frame the holes nicely and
occasionally come into play on off-‐line shots. These new trees not
only enhance the beauty of Sheshan’s course, it also increases the
level of challenge for some serious golf.
Lastly, wood chips are being laid under many of the treed areas on
the course. This provides a great contrasting color to the fairways
and trees and defines the wooded areas. As always, we are
constantly maintaining and improving our course conditions to
uphold our promise of providing you the best golfing experience.
Yours sincerely, Gavin Eckford Director of Golf

As Professional golf season begins
to wind down in Europe and North
America with the conclusion of the
Ryder Cup and Tour
Championship, Asia wakes up to
some of the biggest events in golf.
The world’s top 2 -‐ Rory McIlroy
and Tiger Woods – will make
headlines as both heads to the Far
East. Rory McIlroy returned to the
Pearl of the Orient to try and
defend his title at Lake Malaren
Golf course for the BMW Masters.

The ‘Stars ’ converge in the Far East by Gavin Eckford
Others in the field included former
world No. 1’s Lee Westwood and
Ryder Cup sensation Ian Poulter.
Given that the spotlight is on the
Asia-‐Pacific region, the
opportunity for Chinese golfers to
shine is aplenty. Indeed, the 2012
BMW Masters will feature a dozen
professional golfers representing
the world’s most populous nation
including the likes of Wu Ashun
and Liang Wen-‐Chong.
Although an unofficial event, both
always displayed exceptional
professionalism to play their best
and Zhenzhou’s newest golf
course provided for an exciting
day.
Unfortunately, neither Tiger
Woods nor Rory McIlroy made the
trip south to Mission Hills for the
World Golf Championship HSBC
although there was a very strong
field by the other top players. As
the tournament made a stop in
Guangdong, we are all keeping our
fingers crossed that it might come
back next year!
Tiger Woods also teed it up in
Malaysia at the CIMB Classic at the
Mines Resort and Golf Club in
Kuala Lumpur. Along with a slew
of Asia’s best, many US Pros joined
the field, including Jason Dufner
and Nick Watney, to challenge the
14 time Major winner at the South
East Asian country.
Where McIlroy and Woods
travelled and met, their rivalry
follows. Indeed Asia witnessed the
clash of the two titans as they
played a match against each other
at Jinsha Lake Golf Club in
Zhenzhou. The stage was set for
an 18-‐Hole ‘successor-‐
predecessor’ match.

The spotlight for this month’s “Round of the Month” is on Victor Zhou, one of the key members of the Sheshan Junior Elite. With exceptional play and golfing skills, Victor is an asset to the Sheshan Junior Elite team. After his victory at the Hank Haney JIGT Asian Circuit and the No.7 China Citic Bank Junior Golf Challenge, Victor once again delivered an impressive round of one under Par 71 from the blue tees here at Sheshan Golf Club. Amidst the festivities of the October Golden Week, Victor savored double joy while playing with his father John Zhou, as he secured his personal best round with 5 total birdies!
Victor’s round got off to a quick start, as he was two under par through the first three holes. He kept the pace well on the front nine and made the turn in 35 shots. Despite an initial disappointing double bogey to the start of his back nine, Victor kept his cool and bounced back with consecutive birdies at both the 11th and 12th to remain one under through 12 holes. Congratulations to Victor on his impressive round of 71, we look forward to featuring you again soon when you break into the 60’s here at Sheshan for the first time!

TEEING GROUND
WARNING! If the player tees off from outside the teeing ground, the stroke does not count and they incur 2 penalty strokes. The player has to rectify the mistake by teeing off again within the teeing ground (3rd stroke).
• If the mistake is not rectified the player will be disqualified!
During match play however, the opponent may immediately require the player to cancel and replay the stroke without penalty
According to Rule #11 under the USGA Rules of Golf, the ‘teeing ground’ is typically between and extends from the tee-‐markers to 2 club-‐lengths behind the markers. The ball must be teed up within this area; however, the player can take his stance outside the area. A ball is outside the teeing ground when the entire ball is outside the area.
Golf Tips: 4 Golden rules With the Club Championships just around the corner,
here are a couple of tips that can help you perform under pressure!
Short Game! Short Game! Short Game!
From amateurs to Tour Professionals, the
greens are perfect for saving or throwing
your strokes away. Putting, chipping, and
pitching are all stroke savers. Practice the
short shots as much as possible before the
event and you will see your scores go
down!
Don’t dwell on making a mistake made!
It is unrealistic to think that you won’t have
a bad hole or two at some point so don’t let
it ruin your round. If a big number happens,
let it go and don’t beat yourself up over it.
Negative thoughts lead to more negative
thoughts, which lead to higher scores!
Nice and easy with one shot at a time!
Easier said than done, most people tend to
focus on the scores as opposed to individual
shots. Golfers generally focus on 9-‐Hole or
18-‐Hole scores when we should only be
focusing on the next shot we take. If you have
a 4-‐foot putt for birdie or for triple bogey, it
still counts as one stroke on the scorecard.
Practice like you are playing the game!
While on the Driving Range, visualize the first
tee shot. Think about where that shot would be
on the hole and hit the next shot, as you would
face on the course. It may be from the middle of
the fairway or it may be a chip-‐out from the
trees. Compared to hitting 100 – 7 irons in a row,
this is a more efficient way to prepare for the
tournament!
