Sugar Sand at Pier 60

Calling all sports fans

Celebrate the city’s centennial with Fun ’n Sun Clearwater

O n behalf of the City of Clearwater, I invite you to enjoy the wonderful events that Clearwater has planned for its 62nd annual Fun ‘n Sun Clearwater. As the city cel-

ebrates its 100th anniversary, the Fun ‘n Sun Clearwater high-lights Clearwater’s beaches, parks and recreational activities.

The 10-day festival begins April 17 and continues through May 3. It will showcase a variety of events and programs to delight both residents and visitors.

Of special note is the third annual Pier 60 Sugar Sand Festival. One-thousand tons of Clearwater Beach’s world famous sugar sand will be creatively carved into the Sugar Sand Walk Exhibit, an artistic walk-through display in a 21,000-square-

foot tent. The exhibit will also feature a special tribute to the city’s centennial.

BLAST Friday is a free monthly street festival on the last Fri-day of each month. On April 24, the event will also celebrate Clearwater’s centennial with a classic street party featuring music from Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, a variety of vendors, as well as food, beer, wine and non-alcoholic bev-erages. District retailers and restaurants are open during all BLAST Fridays, with outdoor dining options available on Cleve-land Street.

Clearwater is also proud to have some of the top facilities for sporting events and artistic performances in the area. Bright House Field, home of the Philadelphia Phillies’ spring train-ing and the Clearwater Threshers, is a terrific place to watch baseball during the spring and summer months. Ruth Eckerd Hall and the Capitol Theatre are outstanding performing arts centers that continue to entertain thousands.

Whether you are a visitor to Clearwater or you have lived here all your life, be sure to visit beautiful Clearwater Beach, take a stroll down Beach Walk, and watch the sunset on the Gulf of Mexico. Clearwater has so much to offer, and as it begins its second century, “Sparkling Clearwater” remains a great place to call home or to visit.

Sincerely,George N. Cretekos, Mayor

Have a blast

Listen up, music lovers
