In Eppan the soil, altitude, wind, temperature and microclimate all combine
to produce a wine region with an impressively large range of varieties and
outstanding quality. Blessed is nature, as they say here.
Wine has been produced in Eppan for more than 2,000 years.
In Eppan on the oldest wine route in Italy, the course of love runs through
romantic vineyards and sunny hills. It‘s not just the mild climate and
favourable conditions that are responsible for the high quality of wine
in Eppan.

Treat your palate to a vacation and

South Tyrol is known far beyond its
borders for the variety of gastronomic
highlights that awaits guests.
South Tyrolean delights
It‘s no secret that South Tyroleans
are true gourmets, or that they
know how to spoil their guests with
culinary delights. Eppan on the wine
route offers gourmet vacations where
local specialities are combined with
Mediterranean and international
delights, with traditional inns and
guesthouses serving up delicacies
that would not be out of place in
sophisticated restaurants. Here,
opposites complement rather than
contradict each other to produce a
wide range of delicious highlights.

Restaurant zur Rose
Herbert Hintner is perhaps the most
important figure in the wonderful
contemporary kitchen style that blends
regional and modern in the most
practical way” (Jürgen Dollase in the
“Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung”). The
Restaurant zur Rose is located in the
former courthouse, in the pedestrian
area of St. Michael | Eppan. The cosy
little “Rose Stube” is panelled in light
wood, while the vaulted hallway is
traditionally furnished.
“I and my team from the restaurant ‚Zur Rose‘
love to treat gourmets and wine connoisseurs
every year at the Festive Table in the time-
honoured narrow streets of St. Pauls | Eppan
as part of the local Wine Culture Weeks.
The regional cuisine, fine Eppan and South
Tyrolean wines, and unique setting of a table
of more than 130 metres in length all combine
to wonderful effect under the starry sky.”
Restaurant Turmbach
Christoph Wörndle is the maître-de-cuisine
at the Turmbach country inn in Eppan-Berg,
and is renowned far beyond the region.
One interesting experience on his CV was
working as chef for the US national ski team
with Bode Miller and Ted Ligety.
“I am passionate about fresh products from this
region, as well as the nearby Mediterranean areas,
and always treat them with the greatest respect.
Traditional dishes should be prepared so they meet
the needs of contemporary life.”
CULINARY DELIGHTS
In Eppan you can always find just the right restaurant to treat you to something
delicious.
Stroblhof
A wine estate dating back to the 17th
century, it has since 1900 been run as a
restaurant. Its cosy rooms and romantic
garden terrace are perfect for foodies
to enjoy.
A traditional hotel located on the
edge of a forest, it is surrounded by
its own vineyards and rubs shoulders
with historic castles and stately
residences.
The vines, the cellar and the wine
from the estate all combine with
pleasure and relaxation to produce a
feeling of well-being and joie de vivre.
Since 1995, Andreas
Nicolussi-Leck, a wine
professional with more
then twenty-fi ve years'
experience, has been in
charge of viticuture and
winemaking at Stroblhof.
It’s not only wine that’s on offer in
the wine-growing regions. People
in this area eat and drink all kinds
of foods. They often don’t just
enjoy these products, they literally
celebrate them!
Eppan Wine Culture offers a number
of events where these fi ne products
are celebrated, and where culture,
enjoyment and sociability form a
dynamic whole.

Girlan Winery
They pursue the following main objectives:
they seek, on one hand, to showcase and
promote the historic local grape varieties
and on the other, to create impressive
characterful wines using international
grape varieties yet keeping them
closely connected to the land. This is all
achieved while respecting nature’s flow
and rhythms. Their work allows them to
convey the authenticity of their ideas into
their wines in a natural way, while using
the latest technology and making sure
that these modern production processes
respect past traditions.
St. Michael Winery
The 340 wine-making families that form
the backbone of the winery joined forces
in 1907 to create the St. Michael | Eppan
Winery. Our great passion is the wine with
which they have now been associated for
generations.
Four famous wine cellars in Eppan
Hans Terzer acts as a seismograph
for the world of wines in South Tyrol:
he is one of the most respected cellar
masters in the area and chairs the
Association of South Tyrolean Cellar
Masters. He has been cellar master at
the St. Michael | Eppan winery since
1977 and took them to the top of the
Italian and international wine market.
In 1977 Hans Terzer was named one of
the “Top Ten Winemakers of the world”
by the Italian gourmet magazine
Gambero Rosso. His three major
passions are wining and dining as well
as riding a bicycle.
Schreckbichl Winery
The guiding principle of the Schreckbichl
Winery is to preserve the quality of the
grape harvest and improve upon it. Our
expertise and skill, our appreciation of
tradition and embrace of modern cellar
technology all ensure that we produce
wines of the highest quality.
St. Pauls Winery
St. Pauls is one of South Tyrol’s most
beautiful wine-growing areas. Our wine
cellar was built on four floors in 1907,
over a century ago. This building, very
innovative for its time, is still ideal for
our purposes.

MENDEL AND GAMPEN PASS TOURRoad bike classic including two passes
The classic among the road bike tours
of southern South Tyrol leads after
a leisurely climb to the Mendel pass
(1,363m above sea level), where a
spectacular panorama of the Dolomite
Mountains opens out. Subsequently
the tour leads slightly downhill into the
neighbouring region of Trentino and
continues leisurely uphill to the Gampen
pass (1,518m above sea level) and
back again to South Tyrol. Then it goes
downhill with a view of the spa town of
Meran and on into the Etsch valley. At the
end of the tour there are still 200 metres in
altitude difference before the starting point
is reached.
Do you still want to climb higher? You can
reach the panoramic mountain of Penegal
at 1,737m above sea level from the Mendel
pass via a steep climb.
