“Hot and Spicy” show at FHM 2013

Food and Hotel Malaysia 2013 showed why it is still the number one trade food fair to be reckoned with in the country. In its 12th showcase, Food & Hotel Malaysia exhibition played host to some 18,865 trade visitors from 57 nations at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Malaysia, which saw an increase of approximately 5.5% from the previous show. 1,160 participating companies from 47 nations and 6 international pavilions namely Japan, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Taiwan ROC, Turkey and USA made the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre their home away from home at FHM 2013 occupying 13,000 sqms of space spanning across seven exhibition halls making it the biggest series by far since its inception in 1993.

Top industry players that were present at FHM 2013 included names such as CB Frozen, Delvedere Pasta, English Hotbreads,Eurochef, Global Pacific Victory, Kian Contract, Illy, Lucky Frozen, NKR, Pastry Pro, SCC Corporation, Sinmag Bakery Equipment, Wong Brothers, Vitamix just to name a few!

FHM2013 recognised the need to have a dedicated conference and seminar that would benefit exhibitors and visitors on the whole and one such offering was a seminar and workshop on Malaysian Halal Certification, Standard & Auditing. This seminar was specially designed for those who were interested in applying for Malaysia’s halal certification, namely for their products, premises and services.

A dedicated conference by Asean Hotel and Restaurant Association (AHRA) themed “The New age hospitality solutions for the next generation of hoteliers” organised by MAHTEC Sdn Bhd saw experts from various fields share their expertise in the ever bourgeoning hospitality industry.

A first time feature in the FHM series of exhibition was the Business-to-Business (B2B) platform which generated more than 2,000 matches and 457 on-the-spot matches between trade visitors and exhibitors. Group pavilions that were seen actively using this B2B platform included exhibitors from Japan, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan ROC. Surveys indicated that trade visitors found this medium very effective as it helped them secure face-to-face meetings with suppliers and distributors without much hassle or interference.

Synonymous with the FHM series of exhibitions, is the Culinaire Malaysia, an event which has brought about many spicy moments to the exhibition. This year’s competition saw more than 1,300 participants vying for victory in some 34 categories. To demonstrate the high-standards set by the competition, 86 renowned judges from the culinary and beverage fraternity were brought in to judge the competition which saw many participants bringing their A-game to the battlefield.
