Aalborg University 19 September, 2012 Aalborg University is an innovative university offering a wide range of educational programme leading to degrees at bachelor, master and doctoral levels within the fields of engineering and science. Our wide ranging curriculum provides students with a high quality portfolio and allows opportunities for choice and flexibility of study. Problem Based Learning (PBL) is our unique study form that has proved to be an essential innovation in higher education and is highly recognised by leading international industry. From day one until their graduation, students are accustomed to working on projects in groups and acquire solid skills in the fields of problem‐solving, co‐operation and project work. Implementation of PBL has been an important part of developing Aalborg University as a strong partner for industrial development. Students are on a continuous basis involved in projects proposed by industry, and an increasing number of enterprises are involved in research activity. Knowledge transfer from research to application is very important in the knowledge society, and Aalborg University takes its responsibility to further develop the links with industry and society very seriously. Aalborg University provides a strong international outlook and participates in a series of partnerships with regional, national, and international cooperation and public sector organisations. Furthermore, Aalborg University is co‐operating loosely with or than 350 universities and research institutions worldwide. In 2001Aalborg University established the Centre for Continuing Engineering Education ‐ ELITE, now CPO – Centre for Professional Development offering continuing education in all areas of engineering, science and medicine. Robotics is one of the most active research areas at Aalborg University. The Centre for Robotics has more than 15 professors and 50 PhD students, with a number of national and European robotics projects being carried out. Associate Professor Shaoping Bai is the Centre’s coordinator. On the basis of the above description we are very interested in hosting 2014 International Symposium on Mechanisms Design for Robotics (Meder 2014) and have full confidence in the organisational skills of the scientific personnel that will be in charge of arranging the conference. Aalborg University has hosted several international congresses and conferences and has extensive experience in planning and organising conferences of different levels. Our vision is to be a university of excellence in robotics with commitment to our offers to host the Meder 2014.

Wauww! What a welcome Official welcome reception at the museum of modern art
18
The City of Aalborg is delighted to mark the opening of the 3rd Symposium on Mechanism Design for Robotics 2014 by hosting an informal Welcome Reception at the internationally acclaimed KUNSTEN Museum of Modern Art Aalborg. The museum holds one of Scandinavia’s largest collections of contemporary art; it is designed by Alvar Aalto and Jean-Jacques Baruël and is in itself a masterpiece. We are delighted to offer all delegates and accompanying persons this very special welcome to the City of Aalborg.
19
Let's dineunder thetree tops Gala dinner at the Robbers' Camp
20
The location of the gala dinner will be the Forest of Rold, the largest forest area in Denmark. For centuries, this area was known as a dubious place for ordinary people to be - especially at night.
In the dark, the Rold Robbers would make their move and attack people who, for one reason or the other, had to pass through the forest, which was the only way to get from North to South at that time being.
The atmosphere of the past will be recreated when we resurrect the robbers for the participants in order to make a thrilling event with a touch of local Danish history.
Coaches will take the participants a short 30-minute drive to the entrance of Rebild National Park. Here robbers greet the participants and walk them through the forest. At a certain point, robbers dressed in old times’ robber-outfits “attack” the participants. The robbers will take the participants (and prisoners) further into the forest and tell them the history of the robbers and the area as such.
Afterwards, an exquisite dinner is awaiting the participants under the magnificent treetops. During the dinner, only to be experienced in the region of North Denmark, robber stories and entertainment will keep the participants alert and make the evening unforgettable!
In this informal and relaxed atmosphere, the participants will have the perfect opportunity to experience local folklore and become one unique and memorable experience richer.
21
You’ll find no less than 1,500 hotel rooms of a first-class standard within comfortable distance from the MEDER’s venue as well as the main shopping and restaurant district, and more than 2,500 hotel rooms in the surrounding area.
This combined with a compact, lively and charming city centre not only creates a perfect conference infrastructure, but also - and perhaps more importantly - a relaxed and intimate social setting for the participants.
The choice of hotels in Aalborg ranges from hostels to the modern and discreet atmosphere of the international chain hotels and classic privately owned hotels.

Humanscale conferences - at the top of the European continent
While Copenhagen is the main hub to Scandinavia, the Baltic and Europe, Aalborg in North Denmark offers some of the best conference facilities in green and safe surroundings in Scandinavia.
Being the 3rd largest city in Denmark with more than 200,000 citizens, Aalborg is a bustling university city boasting an intimate and historic city centre.
Still, it is a real human scale city with everything within walking distance, where conference participants will sense full intimacy and not feel lost.
Just imagine travelling to the city without stress or delight in a 10 minute traffic-free transfer from the local airport. Where else is this still possible?
At the top of the continent, we put life into conferences both inside and outside the meeting rooms. Everything a keen conference participant could desire is available in the city of Aalborg and the surrounding region at the northern tip of Denmark’s Jutland peninsula.
And in Aalborg, an event is not “just another event”. All involved partners, be it local authorities or the business community, feel an immensely strong commitment to ensuring the quality and success of your event and that all guests leave Denmark a unique and memorable experience richer.

Just anothergreat incentive- welcome to Scandinavia'snumber one holiday region
31
Being the Danes’ preferred holiday region, North Denmark offers the perfect setting for combining business with pleasure.
The region of North Denmark is famous not only for its fabulously rich scenery and the extra hours of sunshine it gets compared with the rest of the country, but also for its unique, varied natural phenomenon of the three seas that meet here to bring their own distinctive appeal to this region of Denmark.
This region has the wild and foaming North Sea with its mile-long sandy beaches and vast dune landscapes; the milder and far more tranquil Kattegat to the east, and the wonderful, glittering Limfjord to the south with its wealth of idyllic coves and sounds with large and small islands, sheer cliffs and green forests.
In fact, the region boasts more than 2,500 kilometres of coastline, so you’re never more than 30 minutes from the seashore.
Don’t miss out on the clashing meeting of two oceans at the very Top of the Continent - it’s a world-class experience!
Add to this, a rich choice of fairytale castles, great museums, traditional inns, glass blowers, superb restaurants, intimate sea-side resorts and the relaxed and easy-going attitude of the Danes themselves, and you’re well off to a memorable stay at the Top of the Continent.
