Monsoon Season 장마철

• The awesome power of flash floods can move boulders, uproot trees, destroy buildings and bridges and trigger catastrophic mud slides

• You will not always have a warning that these deadly sudden floods are coming

Are You Ready for a Thunderstorm?

Summer ‘06 a lightning strike tragically killed a U.S. Soldier in Korea; so prepare yourself .2006

If Caught Outside...만약 외부에서 만났다면…•If you are in the woods, take shelter under the shorter trees. Do Not seek shelter under tall isolated trees, the tree may help you stay dry but will significantly increase your risk of being stuck by lightning. 그 나무는 당신이 비를 피하는 데 도움을 주겠지만 , 벼락 맞을 위험을 크게 증가시킨다 .•Do Not seek shelter under partially enclosed buildings.부분적으로 에워싸인 빌딩 아래로 대피하지 않는다 .• Wet ropes can make excellent conductors, especially if wet, electrical current will likely travel along the rope. •Stay away from metal objects, such as fences, poles and backpacks. Metal is an excellent conductor.

Protect Yourself Outside...외부에서 자신을 보호해라 ...•Go to a low-lying, open place away from trees, poles, or metal objects. •Make sure the place you pick is not subject to flooding.

Be a Very Small Target!매우 작은 표적이 되어라 !•Squat low to the ground. Place your hands on your knees with your head between them. Make yourself the smallest target possible. •Do not lie flat on the ground -- this will make you a larger target! 이것은 당신을 더 큰 표적으로 만든다 .•If in a group and there is no safe location nearby, stay a little apart from other members of your group so the lightning won’t travel between you if hit.

If Someone is Struck by Lightning...어떤 사람이 벼락을 맞는다면…•People struck by lightning carry no electrical charge and can be handled safely. •Call for help. Get someone to dial 9-1-1 or your local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) number. 누군가 9-1-1 또는 지역 비상 의료 봉사 (EMS) 에 전화하게 한다 .•The injured person has received an electrical shock and may be burned, both where they were struck and where the electricity left their body. Check for burns in both places. If breathing has stopped, begin rescue breathing. If the heart has stopped beating, a trained person should give CPR.

How Far Away Is Lightning From Me? 번개는 나로부터 얼마나 멀리 떨어져 있나 ?To estimate the distance between you and a lightning flash, use the "Flash to Bang" method: If you observe lightning, count the number of seconds until you hear thunder. Divide the number of seconds by five to get the distance in miles. 마일당 거리를 얻기 위해서 5 초 단위로 나눈다 .Example: If you see lightning and it takes 10 seconds before you hear the thunder, then the lightning is 2 miles away from you (10 divided by 5 = 2 miles).

If Thunder is heard The Lightning is…

5 seconds after a Flash 1 mile away

10 seconds after a Flash 2 miles away

15 seconds after a Flash 3 miles away

20 seconds after a Flash 4 miles away

25 seconds after a Flash 5 miles away

30 seconds after a Flash 6 miles away

35 seconds after a Flash 7 miles away

40 seconds after a Flash 8 miles away

Get to a safe location if the time between the lightning flash and the rumble of thunder is 30 seconds or less.
