1. CIVIL
1.1 Roads pavement design:
A. The structural design of pavement will be in accordance with AASHTO (AmericanAssociation of State Highway and Transportation Officials) highway design manual of
asphalt institute and analytical mechanism (stress-strain) approach and fully conformed to
the local codes and standards for the Kingdom Of Saudi Arabia (The Kingdom of Saudi
Arabia, Ministry of communication, General Specification for Roads and Bridge
Construction, 1st edition January 1972 Dhu Al Qadah 1391 H).
B. The main factors that affect the pavement design are traffic loading, expected futurevolume of traffic, sub grade characteristics, sub-base characteristics and environmentalconditions.
C. As the sites are local and shall be subjected to light traffic volume and taking into
consideration the usage of Light Vehicles ( the Asphalt Institute, Asphalt pavement
Thickness and Designed) the pavement layers thickness that will be used are as follows:
- Natural Ground soil with CBR not less than 95% will be utilized for this layer with a
thickness of 280 mm after compaction (AASHTO 193).
- It will be topped by a 170 mm sub-base compacted not less than 98%.
- A bituminous prime coat layer (MCI-stage 2) to be applied to sub base after which
100 mm thick bituminous binder course layer to be installed.- A bituminous tack coat is applied after which an 80 mm thick asphalting concrete
wearing course shall be installed.
- The total pavement thickness is 630 mm.
D. For the parking areas, the pavement layers thickness will be as follows:
- Natural Ground soil with CBR not less than 95% will be utilized for this layer with a
thickness of 190 mm after compaction (AASHTO 193).
- It will be topped by a 100 mm sub-base compacted at 100%.
- A bituminous prime coat layer (MCI-stage 2) to be applied to sub base after which
100mm thick bituminous binder course layer to be installed.- A bituminous tack coat is applied after which a 50mm thick asphalting concrete
wearing course shall be installed.
- The total pavement thickness is 440 mm.

1.2 Asphalt Marking:
A. Standard asphalt paint shall be used in reflective yellow for road side and reflective whitefor parking dividers and road arrows.
1.3 External works design criteria:
A. Building Design & Architecture, Area of Use, Circulation of Staff & Vehicles are the mainfeatures in the landscape layout. Selection of material finishes was based on areas of
importance, practicality of usage & low maintenance.
B. Different areas are classified as follows:BUILDING / ZONE TYPE OF FINISH
- Unpaved & Unplanted Areas -Well compacted natural soil.
- Retaining Walls & Planters. - Segmented retaining walls with copping.- Flag Masts. - Aluminum Poles 8 or 14 meters height
- Railing. - Painted cast iron / Aluminum.
- Benches. - Painted cast iron frame with hard wood finishes
- Curbstones. - Concrete curbstones size 40x30x15cm with 5 cm
chamfer or 40x30x10cm for non asphaltic pavement.
- Litter Bins. - Painted Cast iron, precast concrete.
- Bollards. - Concrete with black steel cover.
1.4 Segments retaining wall units:
A. Provide segments retaining walls composed from High-strength, regular-weight concreteunits, designed for use in segmental retaining walls, with lugs projections, or holes and pins
that locate successive courses in relation to the course below and maintain that alignment as
backfill is placed, and that interlock with units above and below. Color and surface texture
shall be as selected from the manufacturers standard products.
1.5 Landscaping:
1.5.1 General requirements:
A. The Contractor shall provide complete landscape / hardscape design (with reference to thetender drawings) that include the following elements for the review and approval of the
Owner's Representative:
- The Total Landscape Area (Green Area) will be as shown in the drawings.
- The green area will be along both sides of the street with average width as required.

- Trees shall be planted at a frequency as cleared at tender drawings along both sides of
main roads.
- The used planters are to be chosen based on their suitability to the climate of each site
and to be as drought tolerant as possible, in order to minimize the maintenance and
reduce water consumption.
- The scope of service includes the irrigation design as per design requirement asillustrated in the Mechanical section of these outline specifications.
1.5.2 Palm trees (Phoenix Dactylifera)
A. Palms are to have minimum brown trunk height of 2.50 m at planting time.B. The palm shall be planted in pits of 1.20 x 1.20 x 1.50 m depth. Planting frequency is one
every 10 meter (maximum). The planting should follow the standard guying and staking
procedure. Palm trees have a 15 galloon per day water requirement on the yearly average.
1.5.3 Trees
A. Minimum girth of trees is 10 / 12 cm. The trees shall be planted at frequency as cleared attender drawings. The tree pit size is 1.00 x 1.00 x 1.00 m. Trees have a 10 gallon per day
water requirement on the yearly average.
1.5.4 Shrubs and Ground covers
A. Shrubs should be planted in a minimum height at 0.4 - 0.6 m and ground covers from 10 -
20 cm.
B. Shrubs and Ground covers should be planted in a minimum depth of 0.4 m of soil mix.C. The average watering requirement is 3 gallons per shrubs per day and 3 gallons per m2 of
ground covers per day.
1.5.5 Grass Lawn
A. Planted in a 20 cm depth of soil mix, water requirement similar to the ground covers.1.5.6 Soil Mix
A. Agricultural soil shall be provided from outside of the limits of the project. It shall be aclean soil not infected with plant diseases and organism, nematodes or other insects and
free from all chemicals harmful to plant and animal life. Soil is to be of a sandy texture and
to be mix with amendments as follows:
- 15 % Soil.- 15 % Fertilized peat.- 2kg of NPK fertilizer per m3.
